Replaces the local release.sh script with a manually triggered Release workflow.

Changes

  • Add .github/workflows/release.yml: run it from the Actions tab on main and pick patch, minor or major. It runs npm version <type>, which creates the X.Y.Z commit and annotated vX.Y.Z tag, then pushes both to main in one atomic push. The tag triggers the existing publish.yml, which publishes to npm and creates the GitHub release.
  • The push uses a GitHub App token, because tags pushed with GITHUB_TOKEN don't trigger other workflows. Runs are queued, not raced.
  • Remove release.sh.

Required repository setup

  • Install the PlayCanvas GitHub App on this repository and add the APP_ID / APP_KEY secrets.
  • Allow the app to bypass the required pull request review on main.

Manual smoke test

  1. Once the setup above is in place, open Actions → Release → Run workflow on main, and choose patch.
    • Expected: a X.Y.Z commit and vX.Y.Z tag appear on main, authored by the app bot.
  2. Open the Publish workflow run that the tag starts.
    • Expected: it succeeds, the new version is on npm, and a GitHub release with generated notes exists for vX.Y.Z.
