feat(server): add Mistral Vibe as a built-in provider - #31073
Mistral Vibe is available through the ACP registry, but it does not have the same built-in setup and provider controls as the other named providers. Users should be able to add their installed Vibe from the provider picker and use the models and permission profiles their CLI actually offers.
Change
Add Mistral Vibe as a disabled-by-default built-in provider, reusing the existing ACP runtime and adapter. The shared client definition supplies its provider tile, icon, and settings to web, desktop, and mobile.
Discovery reads vibe-acp --version, _auth/status, and a prompt-less session/new. Model names, IDs, and available thinking levels come from Vibe; the only synthetic model is Default, which keeps Vibe's active model. No model catalog is hardcoded and discovery sends no inference prompt.
The three supported T3 permission modes select Vibe's ask, accept-edits, and auto-approve agents. Disabled agents are omitted. The provider also translates Vibe retry and rate-limit reports, recognizes its existing sign-in, and stores an optional API key through the existing sensitive-settings path. Setup, model refresh, and permission behavior are documented in the user guides.
Explicit maintainer approval for making Vibe built-in has not been obtained. The earlier comment is context, not approval of this scope. This is submitted for maintainer consideration with that requirement still outstanding.
Application text-generation helpers and Vibe's hidden Smart Approve mode are outside this change; it does not claim complete feature parity with Codex or Claude.
Verification
Tested on Linux with vibe-acp 3.0.3, using an isolated development database and a disposable Git workspace:
vp i --frozen-lockfile passed after updating the new workspace for upstream's current typecheck toolchain.
vp test run packages/provider-vibe: 9 tests passed, covering model/config translation, authentication failures, permission profiles, and rate-limit errors.
vp run check:changed origin/main: all checks passed, including format, lint, knip, generated GraphQL, typechecks for 41 affected packages/dependents, and 45 tests in 5 files. Repo-wide suites were not run.
In the real web client, added Vibe with the provider wizard and its default binary path. It reported authenticated and discovered Default plus all four models offered by the installed CLI: Large 4, GLM-5.3, GLM-5.3 Flash, and Medium 3.5. The composer showed the same choices.
Selected GLM-5.3 Flash and Supervised, then requested printf VIBE_PROVIDER_OK and a summary of the fixture README. The command waited for approval; approving it produced the marker and the correct README summary in the client.
On a second turn, clicked Stop while a command awaited approval. The client showed Run interrupted / Stopped by user. A subsequent server read confirmed status: interrupted, activeRunId: null, and pendingRequestCount: 0.
After the final rebase and server restart, reopened the same thread and received the exact requested VIBE_RESUMED_OK reply through the resumed Vibe session.
Ran detect-secrets over the proposed diff and all outgoing commit patches: no findings. Reviewed the changed paths and this description; local state, credentials, pairing links, and verification logs are excluded from the branch.
Still unverified: the native desktop shell, native mobile, and relay/tunnel connections. Mobile device access is disabled in this environment. Required before/after screenshots could not be captured: Browser panel snapshots repeatedly timed out, and the fallback browser host was unavailable. UI interaction and text/state checks succeeded, but screenshot evidence remains missing.
Implemented with Claude Opus 5.5 (Claude Code); updated, verified, and submitted with GPT-6.1-Sol (Codex).
Mistral Vibe was only reachable through the ACP Registry or a hand-entered
local command. Add provider-vibe, which drives the user's vibe-acp over
ACP with its own tile and icon, disabled by default like the other
non-default providers.
T3 runtime modes select Vibe's agents (Supervised: ask, Auto-accept
edits: accept-edits, Full access: auto-approve). The status check reads
vibe-acp --version and _auth/status, and lists models from a prompt-less
session/new, so it costs nothing. Vibe's retry notices and -31001 rate
limit map to provider retries and usage limits. The ACP Registry hides its
mistral-vibe entry.

A failed or slow session/new after a confirmed sign-in reported the
sign-in as unknown and dropped the models; it now stays signed in with a
warning. Thinking levels attach only to the model Vibe listed them for.
Runtime modes follow the agents the session lists, so a Vibe config that
turns auto-approve off no longer offers Full access. Docs no longer
promise a prompt before reads, and the managed policy lists vibe.

When Vibe lists agents but none of ask, accept-edits or auto-approve,
every runtime mode would fail at session setup; the provider now shows an
error naming them instead of offering all three. A session with no config
options counts as an unlisted model list, and the guide again says
accept-edits asks before other tools, not only commands.

Configured custom models are rejected with -32602 before Vibe receives the turn when they are absent from the session's model choices. flavor.customModels only affects the adapter's advertised-model check; this makeVibeAcpRuntime call does not receive those slugs, so AcpSessionRuntime.validateConfigOptionValue rejects configureSession's setConfigOption. Pass the same custom-model slugs into the runtime options.

Fixed in 8e55655. The adapter now passes the same custom-model slugs to makeVibeAcpRuntime, so AcpSessionRuntime.validateConfigOptionValue lets them through to Vibe, which accepts or refuses them itself.

Walkthrough
This change adds Mistral Vibe as a T3 Code provider. It adds provider settings, an ACP-based server driver and status checks, application registration, and setup and permission-mode documentation.

Summary
Provider settings, client, and model contract packages/provider-vibe/*, packages/client-runtime/*, packages/contracts/src/model.ts, packages/contracts/src/settings.ts
The provider package defines Vibe settings and client metadata. The model contract and client registry include Vibe, which is disabled by default.
ACP runtime and permission-mode mapping packages/provider-vibe/src/server/acpSupport*, packages/provider-vibe/src/server/adapter.ts
The adapter maps runtime policies to Vibe session modes and configures ACP runtime creation. It classifies retry notifications and prompt failures. Tests cover mode mapping and failure classification.
Provider status and instance lifecycle packages/provider-vibe/src/server/status*, packages/provider-vibe/src/server/driver.ts, packages/provider-vibe/src/server.ts
Status checks derive authentication, model choices, and runtime modes from Vibe ACP. The driver creates provider snapshots and orchestration adapters, and its text-generation operations return unsupported-feature errors. Tests cover status and model mapping.
The server registers Vibe for built-in drivers, managed-provider policy, and secret-field mapping. Compatibility metadata, provider ordering, setup documentation, and workspace tooling include the provider.

The ACP runtime checks a model choice against the session's model list and
only lets through custom slugs it is given. Vibe passed its custom models
to the adapter but not the runtime, so every custom model was refused
before Vibe saw it. Pass the same slugs to both, without `default`, which
is T3's choice to keep the session's model.

Obtain explicit maintainer approval before adding Vibe as a built-in provider.
Adding VibeDriver to BUILT_IN_DRIVERS makes Mistral Vibe a new built-in provider. CONTRIBUTING.md requires explicit maintainer approval of the direction and scope for features like this. The PR must link that approval. A linked issue or discussion alone does not satisfy the rule. The disabled-by-default setting does not change this requirement. The PR context states that approval has not been obtained.
Correction: Agree on the direction and scope with maintainers in an Ideas discussion, then link their approval in the PR. A code change in this diff does not resolve this requirement.
