Keep completed Antigravity titles and validated installs successful when deleting their temporary files is slow.
Recursive removal currently runs in the server’s shared filesystem pool and inside generation/validation deadlines. It can stall unrelated file reads and turn successful work into a timeout and retry (#23877). Startup uses the same recursive removal.
Change
One cleanup subprocess deletes sequentially with fs.rmSync. Scope release hands off owned directories after the provider process closes. Pending directories survive restart, live siblings are excluded, and failed deletion retries periodically. Old runtime roots are moved into the queue. Cleanup retains the provider’s Node selection and environment so standalone installs and version-manager shims work too.
Scope and approval
This is a focused fix of the existing resource-lifetime defect in #23877: cleanup must not discard a completed result or monopolize request-serving filesystem workers. The driver, install validator and startup sweep are three paths into that same defect. It is submitted under the focused obvious-bug exception in CONTRIBUTING.md; no maintainer implementation approval is claimed.
Verification
The deadline regressions fail against the base production modules with simulated four-minute title cleanup and two-minute validation cleanup. With this change, both operations return while cleanup is held. vp run check:changed and all 101 focused local tests pass, covering backpressure, live siblings, scheduled retry, shutdown/restart recovery, provider-only Node paths and environment-dependent runtimes.
Windows QA: windows-2025, Node 26.12.1, 58 tests pass and one existing platform skip. Google’s pinned Antigravity 1.3.0 activates with 9,291 extraction entries still awaiting cleanup. Parent async file reads respond while cleanup is held. Releasing cleanup empties the queue; the longest retained path is 227 characters.
Installed desktop executable: ran the current checkout’s services under the signed Nightly executable in Node mode (Electron 44.9.3, Node 24.22.0, macOS arm64), with a disposable home and Google’s real 1.3.0 runtime. Fresh installation, existing-release validation, cancellation during native validation, and unauthenticated title generation all finish while cleanup is held. The title reports sign-in required, not timeout. Validator processes exit, the active release is preserved, parent reads respond, and all four cleanup jobs finish with no pending directories or parent recursive unpack deletion.
Native standalone probes: built real Node 26.12.1 single-executable applications containing the current cleanup service. Verified isSea() === true, separate external-Node cleanup, responsive parent reads while its child is held, and an empty queue after release. A second probe with Node available only through a provider-specific PATH and requiring that provider’s HOME clears eight old directories and admits new work.

Remaining gaps: successful signed-in Google title generation needs an account/API key, neither available here. The reporter’s Windows 11 desktop/ESET environment remains untested; its endpoint protection cause and deletion rate are unconfirmed. The standalone checks exercise the cleanup service in real SEA binaries, rather than a complete packaged CLI. Full upstream test CI is not reported on this PR yet; current GitHub checks cover metadata and review.
Important
Eight pending completed directories stop additional extractions until cleanup catches up. Already-live sessions can still finish, so this bounds new work rather than imposing an absolute disk quota.

Walkthrough
The Antigravity driver and installer now use a managed temporary-directory service. The service allocates and adopts directories, queues inactive directories for subprocess cleanup, and retries failed cleanup. The mock agent also accepts a configurable ACP session ID.
The service allocates and adopts directories, tracks active and pending entries, and removes inactive directories through a background Node process. It limits pending directories to eight and retries failed cleanup. Tests cover environment propagation, backlog limits, retries, and shutdown recovery.
The driver adopts existing and retired runtime directories and requests managed directories for new runtimes. It no longer removes each runtime directory in its release finalizer. Tests cover cleanup draining, delayed cleanup during title generation, and orphaned directories.
Installation validation now gets its profile directory from the managed service and maps a full cleanup backlog to an installation error. The test verifies installation resolves while profile cleanup is blocked and the validator process stops.

Explanation
The PR meets the active coding requirements in [#23877]. AntigravityRuntimeTemp queues inactive directories and removes each directory in a separate Node child with synchronous recursive deletion. The driver releases runtime directories after provider-process scope closure and adopts current and legacy roots. Installation validation uses the same service. The service excludes active siblings, retries failures, recovers durable queue entries after restart, and limits pending work. The focused tests cover delayed title and validation cleanup, request responsiveness, retries, sibling handling, restart recovery, and provider-specific Node environments.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes remain within [#23877]. The cleanup service, driver integration, installation integration, startup adoption, and related tests address filesystem-pool starvation and cleanup-related deadlines. The mock session-ID change supports deterministic lifecycle tests. No unrelated product behavior appears in the reviewed changes.

thanks @Zheruel. the separate cleanup process correctly keeps recursive deletion outside request deadlines and the server filesystem pool.

replaced the inline backlog schema predicate with its error tag to satisfy current lint. kept the cleanup design and regression coverage intact; no new test files.

verification through blacksmith:
against main e762f09e265b, both deadline regressions fail: completed title generation times out; validated installation reports failed.
with this head, vp run check:changed passes format, lint, both knip passes, graphql generation, affected typechecks, and all 38 tests across the driver, installer, and cleanup service. these exercise actual child processes with a mock ACP provider, including held cleanup and nearby refresh/sign-in failure paths.
unverified this run: signed-in native google generation, native antigravity installation, packaged electron/standalone, windows/macOS, and client UI. no native provider/account is available on this linux VM. this is a server lifecycle change; no UI code changed. all seven reported check contexts are green and gitcafe reports mergeable. full github CI has not run: CI and the other fork workflows report action_required and need maintainer approval. coderabbit reports success but skipped this head due its review quota; both independent reviews approved the final head. no bot findings remain to address.
verified unchanged head 562f36350013aa19602f228ab3807adfccb88bf3 on this linux boat vm. read the diff, description and discussion; the pr is open and has no commits by juliusmarminge or t3dotgg. no source changes or pushes were needed.
ran vp i on github/main (48a292364a) in a separate worktree, then on the exact pr head. ran one background dev server at a time, with isolated empty state. drove the real web app using repo playwright and /usr/bin/google-chrome. created the project, threads and provider instances through the app. installed google's real antigravity 1.3.0 through settings. no mocks, seeded database or demo provider in these runtime checks.
reproduced the cleanup/deadline failure on main with controlled filesystem latency: strace delayed the first real rmdir on each existing server thread by 100 seconds, without changing its result. the native validator exited after about two seconds, but the UI remained in verification beyond the 90-second deadline and reported "could not install antigravity" after cleanup completed around 200 seconds. ordinary installation without the delay passed on this linux filesystem, so this is a controlled slow-cleanup reproduction, not a reproduction of windows/eset itself.
on the pr, delayed the actual validation directory's rmdir for 100 seconds using a path-filtered trace. observed verification start, then the UI return to installed in 2.385 seconds while the separate cleanup child was still held. the real directory remained pending until its delayed deletion completed. the queue subsequently emptied. this proves installation success is independent of that cleanup; it is not a normal-filesystem performance benchmark.
nearby behavior passed:
fresh native install and repeated native revalidation;
real google sign-in reached its browser handoff; cancelling returned to retry sign-in and preserved the installed runtime;
real codex gpt-6.1-sol through the local proxy read README.md using a shell tool and completed while cleanup was held. a second turn on the same thread ran git status --short, reread the file, and confirmed a clean working tree.
vp run check:changed passed through blacksmith against the pr base: format, lint, both knip passes, graphql generation, affected scripts/server typechecks, and all 38 focused tests. the seven reported pr check contexts are successful; full github CI still reports action_required and has not run.
inspected the images and recording; uploaded video playback and seeking passed in chrome.

successful signed-in antigravity title generation and agent turns require a google account or API key that is unavailable here. codex turns exercise the neighboring chat path, not google generation. the title deadline path is covered by the existing focused regression test, not a successful live google title in this run.

the failed ci check was the shared Astro lint assertion, already corrected on main by #29839. no additional source changes were needed. the isolated cleanup design and existing review fixes remain intact; the diff against main stays seven files, +563/-57.
blacksmith vp run check:changed github/main passed format, lint, both knip checks, graphql generation, three affected typechecks, and all 39 focused tests. separately reran the exact failing module, vp test run scripts/check-changed.test.ts: all 15 tests passed. two independent source reviews approve this head with no findings.
upstream ci is pending. unverified this run: signed-in native antigravity, client ui, windows/macos, packaged runtimes, and remote connection modes. earlier runtime evidence remains in the verification comment.

Remove the unreachable remove override and TestClock.adjust.
The test holds the cleanup child with Effect.never and then asserts successful installation, cleanup entry, runtime resolution, and validator termination. Default validation creates run-* directories, so this fs.remove override does not affect the regression. Remove it as optional cleanup.
Also remove the now-unused fs binding and TestClock import.

Assert the configured session ID in the driver test.
The test sets T3_ACP_SESSION_ID, but checks only snapshot fields and request methods. The mock returns its selected ID from session/new; the test would not distinguish the configured UUID from the mock’s "mock-session-1" fallback. Assert the configured UUID in the create-session result or a session update.

Update the driver test to assert that the create-session result or a session
update contains the UUID configured through T3_ACP_SESSION_ID, rather than
merely checking snapshot fields and request methods. Keep the mock’s fallback
behavior unchanged.
