What and why

The "snapshot-everything export tool" item from #372.

An agent that wanted the whole picture of a page, or something to attach to a bug report, had to call ten tools. pangular:snapshot is one read-only call that returns a bounded markdown summary of what the server knows about one page (the most recent one by default).

Section Built from
page URL, title, platform and Angular version
components list-components outline, with routed hosts
route inspect-route
navigations the first line of each explain-navigation
http list-http-calls
errors list-errors
console list-console
forms inspect-forms summary
signals inspect-signals graph, without framework nodes or history
stores inspect-signal-store and the NgRx / Redux stores
queries list-queries
  • Each section reuses the full tool's formatter, scoped to the chosen page, so masking and redaction stay exactly what those tools do. Each section names the full tool to call for more.
  • A section whose inspector is off (inspectors.<key> or agent.tools.<key>) is skipped and named under "Skipped". Sections the page reported nothing for share one line.
  • Size: limit items per section (1–50, default 10), 4,000 characters per section, and maxChars for the whole answer (2,000–50,000, default 20,000). A cut answer says what it left out and how to ask for it with sections.
  • Arguments: sections, limit, maxChars, and page / pageId like the other page tools. Unknown section names are reported back.
  • The answer starts with the untrusted-text notice once; each section's own notice is dropped and its headings are pushed under the section's heading.

It is a shared tool that filters its own sections, so it does not use the anyInspector field from #413. list-pages' handler body moved into a livePages() closure that both tools call, and the query and Redux store registrations now also return their state().

Left out

  • Sections for change detection, hydration, defer blocks, injectors, pipes, startup timing, leaks, SSR requests, Capacitor, Analog and plugins. Each is a small addition to SNAPSHOT_SECTIONS.

Docs: a snapshot section in agents/tools.md (tool count, sections and arguments), the structured-output table in agents/mcp-server.md, the page-text row in security.md, and a step in the shipped pangular-inspector skill.

Refs #372.

How it was verified

  • pnpm commit:check
  • pnpm format:check
  • pnpm typecheck
  • pnpm test:devtools (3141). New snapshot-tool.test.ts pushes data through the real devframe RPCs and covers every section, a single notice, sections filtering and unknown names, skipping with inspectors.forms and agent.tools.http off, limit, the section cap and maxChars truncation, redaction of an access_token URL and a Bearer JWT, and page selection (by page, by pageId, unknown, none).
  • pnpm skills:check
  • Docs in apps/docs updated and pnpm docs:build passes
  • No change in app, so no extension:build

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a snapshot tool that provides a bounded Markdown overview of page data, including components, routes, navigation, HTTP activity, errors, console output, forms, signals, stores, and queries.
    • Choose which sections to include and select a page; the report indicates when sections are empty, skipped, or truncated.
  • Documentation
    • Updated the documented tool count to 97, added snapshot usage guidance, and expanded security notices for tools that return page data.

One read-only call returns a bounded summary of everything the server knows about a page: components, route, navigations, HTTP calls, errors, console, forms, signals, stores and queries. It reuses each full tool's formatter, so masking stays the same, and skips sections whose inspector is off.

📝 Walkthrough

The pull request adds a page-backed snapshot tool. It combines selected live inspector reports into bounded Markdown and supports page and section selection. The change also updates tool metadata, tests, and documentation.

Changes: Snapshot tool

Layer / File(s) Summary
Snapshot data sources and wiring
packages/devtools/src/config.ts, packages/devtools/src/devframe.ts, packages/devtools/src/rpc/pages.ts, packages/devtools/src/rpc/query-register.ts, packages/devtools/src/rpc/redux-stores-register.ts
Adds snapshot configuration and data-source wiring. livePages supplies page details and metadata. Query and Redux registrations expose their shared state.
Snapshot rendering and tool registration
packages/devtools/src/rpc/snapshot-tools.ts
Adds section rendering for page reports, section selection, page resolution, disabled and empty section reporting, item and character limits, and the pangular:snapshot tool with a Markdown output schema.
Snapshot validation and documentation

Agents following the skill may call the wrong tool name. Correct the instruction; this is a bounded documentation issue rather than a blocker to the tool itself.

276-276: Add the untrusted notice before the NgRx store text in the snapshot.

inspectSignalStoreText returns live NgRx state with no untrusted notice. In devframe.ts, the inspect-signal-store handler wraps it in withUntrustedPreamble. The snapshot adds only one notice, at the top of the answer, so the store text still sits behind that notice. That part is safe. The stores section has a second problem. The Redux part goes through withoutNotice, but the NgRx part does not, so the NgRx state never gets its specific "Live NgRx state" label. This is a consistency gap only. The leading untrusted(head) covers every section. No change is required.

329-332: pageId passed alone is ignored when page holds an empty string.

pageArgument skips empty strings, so this path works correctly.

Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

Add TanStack Query to the list of snapshot sections.

The snapshot tool also returns a queries section for TanStack Query. Line 15 leaves it out of the list. Because of this, an agent can conclude that the snapshot has no query state.

Proposed fix
-4. For the whole picture in one call (page, components, route, navigations, HTTP calls, errors, console, forms, signals, stores), call `snapshot`.
+4. For the whole picture in one call (page, components, route, navigations, HTTP calls, errors, console, forms, signals, stores, TanStack Query), call `snapshot`.

The pangular-inspector skill listed every snapshot section except queries, so an agent could think the snapshot has no query state.

1. Call `pangular_list-pages`. It lists the browser tabs and native apps that report to the server, newest first, with a page id, URL and the inspectors that report.
2. An empty list means no page is connected. Ask the user to open the app in a browser (a development build with the overlay imported in `main.ts`), or connect to the HTTP server (`pangular-live`) instead of the stdio one. The stdio server (`pangular mcp`) only has the source tools: `get-routes`, `get-components`, `get-signals`, `get-providers`, `get-ngrx-store`, `get-pipes` and `build-meta`.
3. With several pages open, pass the page id as `page` to the page tools. Without it they read the most recent page.
4. For the whole picture in one call (page, components, route, navigations, HTTP calls, errors, console, forms, signals, stores, TanStack queries), call `snapshot`. It is bounded and names the tool that has the rest of each section, so it also fits a bug report.
