feat: one Dependabot config for every repository - #19
Merged
Merged
Conversation
dependabot/bin/generate.sh writes a repository's .github/dependabot.yml from one template: an entry per ecosystem it has (npm and composer directories are detected, github-actions always in /), weekly, a 7-day cooldown except for our own packages, and groups - all @WordPress packages in one pull request, major versions included, everything else without a major step in another, security updates in a third. Merging one no longer puts the others in conflict. The PR checks warn when a plugin's file differs from the template.

Dependabot can't extend a shared config, so the repositories had drifted to 16 different
dependabot.ymlfiles for 25 repositories. Only one of them grouped npm updates. That's why wp-postqueue has eight@wordpress/*pull requests open, and merging one puts the other seven in conflict. What changes
dependabot/bin/generate.shwrites a repository's.github/dependabot.ymlfrom one template (docs/dependabot.md):package-lock.jsondirectory, composer percomposer.jsonthat requires a package, github-actions always@palasthotel/*/palasthotel/*, as in the Renovate preset. Security updates still come right away: Dependabot applies no cooldown to them.@wordpress/*in one pull request, majors included; everything else minor/patch in one; security updates in one. Majors outside@wordpresscome alone.directory: "/". Eleven repositories have/.github/, which makes Dependabot look for a composite action and never check the workflows.wp-plugin-pr.ymlgets a job that warns (doesn't fail) when the file differs from the template.dependabot.ymlis generated, too.Verified
tests/dependabot.sh(12 cases), shellcheck, actionlint.
