Description

Small change to fix an accessibility issue, Question Content Not Programmatically Associated With Answer Choices
more details in the issue

Change

  • Detected the instructional text (like "Instructions:" and the sentence to analyze) that appeared before each question but wasn't linked to it.
  • Gave that text a unique reference so the question's answer group knows it exists.
  • Attached that reference to each checkbox and radio button of the question, so assistive technology sees them as part of the same context.
  • Made sure the reference is placed on the actual control (input) that receives keyboard focus, since that's where screen readers look.

How I tested this

  • Turned on VoiceOver on macOS Safari and enabled description reading.
  • Tabbed through the checkboxes in Question 2 and Question 5 — confirmed VoiceOver announces the instructions and the sentence along with each option.
  • Checked in Chrome DevTools' Accessibility panel that each option's description shows the instructional text.
  • Tabbed through Questions 1, 3, and 4 (which have no extra instructions) — confirmed nothing extra is announced, so the change only affects questions that need it.

Where can I find more information?

If you'd like to get more details on all aspects of the review process for open source pull requests (OSPRs), check out the following resources:

When can I expect my changes to be merged?

Our goal is to get community contributions seen and reviewed as efficiently as possible.

However, the amount of time that it takes to review and merge a PR can vary significantly based on factors such as:

  • The size and impact of the changes that it introduces
  • The need for product review
  • Maintenance status of the parent repository

💡 As a result it may take up to several weeks or months to complete a review and merge your PR.
