Problem
Softnet requires a VM socket, MAC address, etc. at startup and supports only one VM per process.
Solution
Allow running Softnet with
--control-fdonly. A user then callssoftnet.initializeto send VM sockets throughSCM_RIGHTSand Softnet initializes up to five VMs on a shared/29network.VM IDs and MAC addresses are returned back from
softnet.initializeand allow for further per-VM policy updates withsoftnet.policy.set.The
softnet.initializecan only be called once, however, because of thevmnetframework's limitations and the fact that we do privilege dropping.Related
