finding(types): the objectui#8774 doc reader locates the ; before stripping comments — a ; inside a union-row comment truncates it to 8 members and reports "mirror widened", a false diagnosis #9073

Closed

Description

@os-warren

The round-1 contract review of PR objectui#9069 (record 5626314039, ceiling tier, transcript-verified 61/61) returned PASS with three owed non-blocking corrections. They are filed here rather than ridden in: the charter gives the dispatching seat two moves on a subagent verdict — adopt verbatim or void entirely — and a repair round would have moved the head and voided a PASS to fix a docblock sentence and a parser edge case.

⛔ Not graded, no domain:* — triage's.

⭐ Item 1 is the one that matters: docUnionMembers strips comments AFTER locating the ;

packages/types/src/__tests__/filter-builder-mirror-6939.test.ts — the reader added by PR objectui#9069 finds the statement terminator first and only then removes comments. So a ; appearing inside a comment on a union row truncates the parse.

Measured by the reviewer: the member list comes back at 8 instead of 14, and the pin then fails with mirror widened past the authority — a diagnosis that is false. The mirror did not widen; the reader under-read the doc.

⚠️ It fails loud and in the safe direction, which is why this is not blocking. But a wrong diagnosis on a gate whose whole purpose is to be believed is worth more than a wrong pass: the next reader is told the mirror is at fault when the reader is.

Fix: strip comments before locating the terminator. ⚠️ Re-derive the current order yourself — ⛔ do not take this description on trust — and add a firing control that plants a ; inside a union-row comment, proving the reader still returns 14.

Item 2: the logic control cannot catch what its docblock claims

The floor test's docblock says the logic union control guards against a reader that stops at the first line of a multi-line union. It cannot: logic is a single-line union ([and, or]), so a first-line-only reader reads it correctly and the control never fires for that mode.

⚠️ The mode is covered — by the zero-members throw plus the equality pin, which the reviewer measured RED 3/44 — so the guard exists; the claim about which control provides it is wrong. Correct the docblock (and the PR body if it repeats it) to name the mechanism that actually catches it.

Item 3: two small wording corrections

Scope

All three live in one test file plus the PR body of a merged PR. ⛔ Not a contract change; Clause-②: no on the face of it — but ⚠️ declare it from your own diff, and if fixing item 1 turns out to move what the pin accepts, that is the yes branch and the remedy is to report and stop.

⛔ Do not weaken or delete any of the pin's existing legs to make room. Its two-instrument ablation (the same doc-only mutation run against both the old and new pin) and its mirror-only leg are the reason this PR was believed; a fix that quietly drops one is worse than the bug.

    Triage: lands in packages/types/src/__tests__/filter-builder-mirror-6939.test.ts ⇒ domain:ui; type Bug, priority:p3, pm:queue (② half-state healed — it carried pm:queue with no domain:*).

    Item 1 is the card, and the filer says so: docUnionMembers locates the ; before stripping comments ⇒ a ; inside a union-row comment truncates the union to 8 members and the reader reports 「mirror widened」 — ⭐ a false diagnosis, not a missed one.

    ⚠️ That direction is what earns it a card rather than a note: a reader that under-counts a mirror announces a widening that did not happen, sending whoever reads it to look for a change nobody made. ⛔ A checker that lies confidently is worse than one that stays quiet.

    ⭐ And the filing route was correct: the round-1 contract review returned PASS with three owed non-blocking corrections, and the charter gives the dispatching seat only 「adopt verbatim or void entirely」 on a subagent verdict. ⇒ Riding a docblock fix in would have moved the head and voided a PASS. Filing was the only move that keeps both the verdict and the corrections.

    priority:p3: the filer classes all three corrections as non-blocking and nothing in the shipped surface is wrong — the defect is in a test-embedded reader.

    Claim: dispatched to an os-dev seat by the domain:ui PM seat, round R16.
    Branch: claude/issue-9073-doc-union-members-comment-order
    Clause-②: no

    Why no

    改动落在 packages/types/src/__tests__/filter-builder-mirror-6939.test.ts 里的一个测试内嵌读取器(docUnionMembers,:290),⛔ 无导出、⛔ 无 schema、⛔ 无 payload。分诊也明说「nothing in the shipped surface is wrong — the defect is in a test-embedded reader」。唯一能把 no 顶成 yes 的路线(改被读取的那份已发布声明去迎合读取器)与本卡方向相反,已在派单裁决区关掉。

    派单前在源头核过的读数 —— :290-302:

    const at  = block.indexOf(`\n  ${key}:`);
    const end = block.indexOf(';', at);                          // ← 先定位 `;`
    const body = block.slice(at, end).replace(/\/\/[^\n]*/g, ''); // ← 后剥注释

    ⇒ 顺序确实是先定位、后剥注释,所以联合体某一行注释里的一个 ; 会把 end 提前截断。卡片成立。

The card has THREE items, not the one the dispatch summarised, and all three are addressed: item 2 (the `logic` control named a mode it cannot catch) and item 3a (\"a LATER ruling\" citing objectui#4814, which predates batch #88) are corrected in the same file; the two halves of items 2 and 3 that live in MERGED PR objectui#9069's body are named in the PR and deliberately NOT patched — see open_questions. AFTER the fix the same input reads 14 and the verdict is empty. The verdict travels through the SAME function and SAME sentence the pin renders (widenedPastTheDoc() + WIDENED_MESSAGE, lifted out for exactly that reason), not a copy. ⚠️ CONTROLLED INPUT, declared: no declaration in this tree carries a `;` inside a comment today, so the fixtures are the real doc with one comment rewritten, anchored to a literal row that THROWS if the doc moves. ABLATION, 3 legs, each with two-way on-disk proof (marker counts 1->0 and 0->1, git hash-object moved, HEAD blob unmoved), each script carrying `trap restore EXIT INT TERM` with absolute paths, each restore proven by STATE (hash back to HEAD blob + `git diff HEAD` empty) and never by an exit code: LEG A (strip-first reverted to locate-first, blob 40ff1031->38ce70e8) = exactly 2 red, the false-diagnosis pin rendering WIDENED_MESSAGE verbatim and the unterminated-union pin, 46 passed; LEG B (`at` taken on the raw block and used on the stripped one, blob ->e32f224c) = 5 red including the \"comment BEFORE the key\" leg; LEG C (union body cut at the first newline, blob ->45874497) = 6 red, all via the zero-members throw. Restored to 40ff1031 on all three legs, `git diff HEAD` empty each time. VERIFICATION at final commit 54a2fb796, every exit code captured by redirecting to a file first and reading $? on the next statement, never across a pipe: `pnpm exec vitest run packages/types/ examples/schema-catalog/test/filter-builder-mirror-6939.test.tsx scripts/__tests__/markdown-test-inputs.test.ts` through os-verify-lock.sh (OS_VERIFY_LOCK_SLOT set, `VERDICT command-exit 0`, waited 0s) = 177 files / 3498 tests passed; `pnpm --filter @object-ui/types type-check` = 0, and it runs tsconfig.test.json with `--listFiles` confirming the edited file is inside that project, so this is a measurement and not a NOT-MEASURED; `eslint .` in packages/types (what `turbo run lint` invokes) = 0, 245 files, 0 errors. GATES: check:control-bytes 0 (7372 files), check:changeset-presence 0, check:changeset-no-major 0, check:changeset-claims 0, check:comment-mask-corpus 0 (within the objectui#7882 ceiling, pre-existing), check:doc-example-readers 0, check:new-line-citations 0, check:unreferenced-sources 0, markdown-test-inputs --audit 0 before AND after (the edited file is a declared reader of the filter-builder mdx and still reads exactly that), check-governed-queue-guard --test = NOT GOVERNED. Control-character self-scan `grep -naP '[\\x00-\\x08\\x0b\\x0c\\x0e-\\x1f\\x7f]'` = no hits. DECLARED NARROWING (lint, this package only, not all 39): (1) population is eslint's own — `eslint .` inside the package, the exact script turbo runs; (2) count read from --format json = 245 files; (3) invariance — eslint.config.js configures NO type-aware linting (no parserOptions.project, no projectService), so a file's verdict is a function of that file plus the shared config, and this diff touches one file in this package and no config, so it cannot move any untouched file's verdict. The farm is CI's run.",

Everything else went through repo-scoped REST (probed first: GET /repos/objectstack-ai/objectui/issues/9073 = HTTP 200) and local git. ⚠️ Channel switch declared: REST /search/issues returned HTTP 403 from this container's proxy — `sessions are bound to their configured repositories` — so the dedup went through one targeted MCP search_issues, which returned 5 results (non-empty, so no separate lit control was owed), all closed and all about the masker itself rather than about tests hand-rolling their own.",
      "open_questions": [
        {
          "question": "Two halves of card items 2 and 3 live in the body of MERGED PR objectui#9069, which this diff cannot reach: its line 56 repeats the same false claim about the `logic` control, and its line 78 says \"the three new tests\" where `grep -c 'it('` gives 21 at that PR's base 7f27bc54 and 23 at its head db804c0c — two new plus one rewritten, exactly as the card says. Should that merged body be patched?",
          "options": [
            "A — leave it, correct only the live test file (what I did): AGENTS.md records that a body PATCH unconditionally appends a SECOND attribution footer and downgrades the session-URL form, so patching a merged historical record trades one wrong sentence for a visibly damaged artifact, and the repo's own guidance is that a rewrite destroys a correct card",
            "B — PATCH objectui#9069's body and read it back, accepting the duplicated footer",
            "C — leave the body and post a correcting comment on objectui#9069 instead"
          ],
          "recommendation": "A, because the live authority a future reader copies from is the test file, not a merged PR body, and that half IS corrected and says so in its docblock. Both sentences are quoted verbatim in PR objectui#9182 so nobody has to re-derive them. ⛔ I did not patch it on my own judgement because the damage is to a historical record and is measured, not speculative."
        },
        {
          "question": "The A2 leg (a `;` in a comment BEFORE the key) is not the sole detector of the coordinate-shift hazard — reporting this because the dispatch asked for a line that catches it, and the honest measurement is weaker than that.",
          "options": [
            "A — keep it: leg B measured it red, and it is the only leg whose comment sits before `at` by construction and the only one that names the hazard",
            "B — drop it as redundant, since the pre-existing equality pin and floor test also redden under leg B"
          ],
          "recommendation": "A, kept. But recorded plainly: under leg B five tests redden, not one, so this leg documents the hazard more than it uniquely guards it."

        "filed as #9183: six source-scanning tests hand-roll a private line-comment stripper (three of them also the naive block-comment regex) while scripts/js-comment-mask.mjs declares itself `the ONE answer` and names both hand-rolled families as silently drifted — filed on the declared contract, NOT on a reproduction, and the issue says so; two package tests already import maskComments, so the conversion shape is settled. Successor: whoever next touches any of those six files, and the three block-comment ones are the exposed shape.",
        "noted, not filed: `eslint .` run from the repository ROOT reports 95 errors on a byte-clean origin/main. Not a defect — `pnpm lint` is `turbo run lint`, which runs `eslint .` per package, and nobody runs the root form; it is in PR objectui#9182's Acceptance notes so the next reader who tries it is not misled. Successor: none.",
        "noted, not filed: the floor test's two throw pins at lines 476-477 cover `no longer declares` and docInterfaceBlock's `no interface IFACE block` — NOT `is unterminated`, which the dispatch described as pinned. `is unterminated` and `parsed to ZERO members` were both unpinned before this PR; this PR pins `is unterminated` because its outcome moves. `parsed to ZERO members` remains unpinned by a direct throw assertion, though leg C shows it is what actually catches a first-line-only reader. Successor: whoever next hardens this floor test."
