Fixes #23857
Clause-②: yes

ADR-0139 E7, comments half, by the ruling on #23732 (record 6212058353, batch #354 item 2: letter A on Q1, A on Q2, maintainer 「同意」). sys_comment gains a writer-stamped parent pair, and the comment-thread read gate narrows by it with one ReadableIds leaf per parent object, with no pre-scan. #23732 remains open; the seat handles it as the ruling's item 6 says.

Rollout (the changeset's first paragraph)

Run os migrate comment-parent-pair --apply at once after upgrading. Until it runs, the comments written before the upgrade carry no pair, and the gate answers them by the bounded thread probe it always had: at most 2,000 candidate rows per read, fail closed. So a broad comment list (one not scoped to a single record's thread) can omit comments the reader may see, and its total agrees with the short list. A record's own thread is unaffected. The door copies os migrate activity-changed-fields (E6, PR #23814) one for one: --database-url, --apply, --yes, --force, --json; dry run by default; idempotent. Same measured difference as E6: the columns arrive with the upgraded deployment's schema sync, which --apply performs itself, so a dry run against a database no upgraded process has opened cannot read them and exits 1.

What changed

  • The pair (objects/sys-comment.object.ts). object_name and record_id are Field.text, readonly, not required, and indexed together as (object_name, record_id). thread_id stays the authored key. There is no ADR-0087 conversion and no writer change.
  • One planner, planCommentParentPair (comment-access-hooks.ts). It parses the thread with parseCommentThreadId, the parse every comment gate authorizes by. A thread that names no record gets null / null.
  • Who can write the pair:
    • Create: a beforeInsert hook stamps every row, for every caller, the system included, and overwrites any value the writer sent. The engine's create-side readonly strip skips sys_ objects, so this hook is the guard, as it is for is_edited.
    • The re-point rule: an update that names thread_id is re-stamped from it.
    • An update that names either column without a thread: the update stamp re-derives the pair from the row's stored thread, for every caller, and drops it when there is no stored row. It does not rely on the engine's strip, which under preserveAudit (the REST import's treatAsHistorical) keeps a readonly value. A multi-row update of this kind over rows whose threads name different records is refused whole by the stamp itself, not by the engine's key-set divergence check (VALIDATION_ERROR / 400, nothing written), because one SET clause cannot carry two pairs. Over rows sharing one thread, it stores that thread's pair. Pinned on a real engine and through the REST import (patch rounds 1–2, addenda 6216192076 and 6217048956).
    • The backfill's SYSTEM by-id update: the stamp re-derives its pair from the thread the row holds at write time. That narrows the backfill's race to the one engine call; it does not close it.
    • Both hooks stamp only when the registered sys_comment declares the pair. This is E6's declaresActivityStampColumns precedent, for harnesses that register their own sys_comment.
  • The gate (installCommentReadVisibility). It is now computeParentRecordFilter from parent-record-read-gate.ts. That function is imported, not edited, so no third copy of the D5 classification is written. It runs over the comment's pair with a commentThreadGate() config:
    • The parent set is every registered object except sys_comment. All of AUDIT_EXCLUDED_OBJECTS is named, because a comment can hang off any record. This is the same set parseCommentThreadId accepts.
    • D5's three classes are routed to the bounded probe by name and up front, never by catching a refusal. So are the two whole-read states: no canReadObject (no leaf is written without it) and an engine that cannot classify.
    • Rows with no stamped pair get one more branch, ORed in: the old bounded thread probe, restricted to object_name IS NULL. Its branch carries that conjunct, so it never selects a stamped row. Rows the backfill has not reached are probed, never leafed.
    • A sys_comment that declares no pair keeps the thread probe over every row, and the gate says so once.
    • next() sits outside the gate's try, so a composition refusal (on driver-mongodb, a 500) is the read's own failure (D3).
    • AuditPlugin passes the security source.
  • Reactions are unchanged (Q2, D5.2). They are recorded on ADR-0139 E7 (comments): sys_comment gains a writer-stamped object_name + record_id pair with a backfill, and the comment-thread read gate emits one ReadableIds leaf per parent object over it (ruling on #23732, batch #354 item 2) #23857 with the reading member 1,763 of 2,300 and administrator total 2,000 of 2,601.
  • The backfill, backfillCommentParentPair (comment-parent-pair-backfill.ts, exported from src/index.ts):
    • It works in E6's shape: a SYSTEM keyset walk on object_name $null, then a single-id SYSTEM update of both columns.
    • It updates under preserveAudit with the row's stored updated_at, so no comment's updated_at moves. Measured through the door.
    • A thread that names no record is counted as unparented and left unstamped.
    • A refused page read is counted, so the door exits 1.
  • The door os migrate comment-parent-pair, registered in the one-shot family table, the JSON-purity family and the absent-database roster.
  • Docs and generated files:
    • deployment/cli.mdx: a section and a table row.
    • platform-checklist/areas/cli.json: 17 → 18 subcommands.
    • The plugin-audit i18n bundles, regenerated and translated.
    • The tenant-audit census, regenerated: 226 → 227 write sites, from the backfill's update. The hand-written prose figures follow.
    • The checklist item attachments-storage.read-inherits-parent-rls, revision 5, carries the two notes from 6206614195.

Landing places: everything is in plugin-audit, the CLI door and its three family registrations, dogfood, docs, and the generated files the gates regenerate. None of writeAudit, packages/spec, objectql, core, any driver, parent-record-read-gate.ts, migrate/organization-ownership*, apply.ts, docs/adr/** or objectui is touched.

Evidence

Local readings at head e499adaf6 (with origin/main 34b740f2d merged in), on the shared box, under scripts/pm/os-verify-lock.sh. Patch rounds 1–2 (to 7d41db652) change only the update stamp, docblocks, the changeset and tests. The read gate is untouched. The dev re-read these numbers at 7d41db652 (supplement 6217097662), and they are unchanged: real engine member 2,303 of 2,303 and administrator total 2,605 of 2,605; the stack served 2,050 of 2,050. The rounds' own gates, suites and ablations are in addenda 6216192076 and 6217048956.

  • @objectstack/plugin-audit: tests 53 files / 863 passed; typecheck exit 0 (test-typecheck ledger OK).

  • @objectstack/cli: unit project 301 files / 4,496 passed; typecheck exit 0.

  • CLI integration, run locally because the diff touches it:

    • the new door suite plus data-commands.absent-database and schema-migrate.one-shot-family: 147 / 147;
    • json-stdout-purity.e2e (nightly tier): 62 / 62.
  • @objectstack/dogfood typecheck exit 0. Dogfood: the new pin plus the eight suites that read sys_comment or share the gate (the E6 pin among them): 9 files / 79 passed.

  • The bound case, before and after. "Before" is ablation A0 below: main's whole-read thread probe put back.

    reading before after
    real engine + AuditPlugin + SQLite (comment-parent-pair.integration, 2,607 rows): member served / total, of 2,303 visible 1,766 / 1,766 2,303 / 2,303
    same: administrator total, of 2,605 2,000 2,605
    real SecurityPlugin + AuditPlugin stack at the HTTP door (dogfood, 4,151 comments, one thread each): member served, of 2,050 visible 981 2,050

    The administrator's newest-20 read is served 20 rows, with a total past 2 × 2,000. An unreadable parent's comments stay hidden: another member's record, a vault object, a deleted record, and a thread naming no record. The thread-scoped read of one of them answers 0 rows and total 0.

  • No SYSTEM-composed read or leaf. On the real stack, no SYSTEM read of sys_comment carries a leaf. The only SYSTEM reads are the two bounded probes: thread_id over object_name $null, and the D5 pair probe.

Ablations. Each negative pin was run red, then restored. Every mutation went through scripts/ablation-replace.mjs, and every restore was proven blob == HEAD with git diff HEAD empty. Unless noted, the pins are the two plugin-audit suites, run from src.

leg mutation red
A0 main's whole-read thread probe put back src 7 of 17. Dogfood through dist: marker present (ablation-dist-preflight exit 0), 4 of 5 red. Restore rebuilt and the marker proven absent
A1 the stamped branch admits every stamped row 11
A2 unstamped rows not probed 5
A3 the unstamped probe's branch loses its object_name IS NULL conjunct 2
A4 a leaf written without canReadObject 1
A5 the consumer catches the read's refusal into deny-all 2 (unit and real engine)
A6 the stamp keeps a writer's own pair 7
A7 the re-point not re-stamped 2
A8b a D5.2 middleware-gated parent leafed (temporary mutation of planParentReads, not committed) 9
A9 a delegated caller leafed (same file, not committed) 2
A10b a refused page read not counted 1
A11 a thread naming no record stamped 7
A12 an update naming the pair without a thread not re-derived (patch round 1) src 3. Dogfood through dist: marker present (ablation-dist-preflight exit 0), 2 red. Restore rebuilt and the marker proven absent
A13 with no stored row, the writer's pair kept (patch round 1) 1
A14 the multi-row pair-divergence refusal removed (patch round 2) 2 (real engine and unit)

Void legs, declared:

  • The first A0 leg was a no-op: its replacement contained the anchor, the tool refused it, nothing landed, and its readings are discarded.
  • A8 and A10 were refused the same way first (the replacement text already occurred), and were rerun as A8b and A10b.
  • A4, A5 and A9 were rerun after a test-only restructure of the unit stand-in, with the same results.

Gates.

  • node scripts/pm/dispatch-gates.mjs --commands --repo objectstack-ai/objectstack derives 103 commands at e499adaf6: 23 paths, 2,276 changed lines, under the 3,000 threshold. All 103 exit 0. --ran reports 「103 derived, 103 run, 0 NOT-MEASURED, 0 UNRUN」.
  • pnpm check:adr-symbol-anchors exits 0. ADR-0139's anchors comment-access-hooks.ts#READ_SCAN_LIMIT and #installCommentReadVisibility still resolve.
  • The first union had three real reds, all fixed:
    • the census prose figures;
    • check:engine-double-contract and check:objectql-double-limit, both on my unit stand-in. The stand-in was restructured; no ledger was touched.
  • Three exit-3 prerequisites (missing dist, a shallow clone) re-ran green after a build and a fetch.

Acceptance notes

  • No redaction and no query guard over the pair. The pair is a parse of thread_id, which every reader of a row is already served and may already filter by, so it discloses nothing new. The pair gets no entry in parent-field-query-guard.ts; that guard covers value-bearing columns of the activity stream and the ledger, and sys_comment has no such column.
  • A wider read. An unpinned comment read builds one branch per registered object: E5's activity cost, now on comments too. Every comment read also runs one SYSTEM probe over object_name IS NULL. After the backfill that probe finds nothing; until then it finds at most 2,000 rows.
  • Unparented threads. A comment whose thread names no record keeps null / null forever, so the unstamped probe always scans it. It stays hidden, as before.
  • The comments checklist item. The card asks for "the comments item's revision" to carry the same two notes, but no checklist item covers comment read inheritance: the comment-related items in records-forms.json are about feeds and posting. So only the attachments item was revised, and no item was invented.
  • Stale prose outside this card's surface. parent-record-read-gate.ts's no-object-admission warning still cites the activity stream's withheld-update re-read, and the comment gate now prints it too. The file is ADR-0139 execution: the engine-internal semi-join leaf across spec, engine, drivers and consumers (E0–E7 coordination) #22788's, so it is not touched here. Carrier: ADR-0139 execution: the engine-internal semi-join leaf across spec, engine, drivers and consumers (E0–E7 coordination) #22788.

📓 Docs Drift Check

This PR changes 2 package(s): @objectstack/cli, @objectstack/plugin-audit, touching 54 documentable anchor(s). ⚠️ 1 changed file(s) yielded no anchor (packages/plugins/plugin-audit/src/index.ts), so the pages documenting them are NOT COVERED by this run — this is not a clean bill of health for those files.

59 hand-written doc(s) name something this change touched — list omitted above 15 rows. Re-derive on the tree named below: node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs --json 61e5ee9e5720433ccca483160bccbf880e6d9b84.

⛔ 9 release-owned page(s) also affected — read-only, see AGENTS.md Documentation Guardrails.

What this run could not see
  • 1 changed file(s) yielded no anchor (packages/plugins/plugin-audit/src/index.ts) — pages documenting those are invisible to this run
  • 10 name(s) were too generic to anchor anything (single lowercase words)
  • the SDK route bridge reached 54 of 206 client-bound route-ledger rows — the other 152 have no registrar path: tail to select them, so pages documenting THEIR client methods cannot appear above, on this or any run. Of those 152: 0 are remediable by widening that discovery convention (an in-repo file declares the path; the convention did not scan it); 55 are structural — on a ledger where NOT ONE row is declared in-repo, so no discovery change reaches them at any price; 97 are undecided (no in-repo declaration, on a ledger that has other in-repo registrars — absence and an unreadable spelling are not distinguishable here). The rows themselves: node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs --bridge-coverage
  • a page that states a rule by its inputs shares no identifier with the emitter that implements the rule, so an emitter-only diff cannot list it — not on this run and not on any run. Measured on fix(driver-sql): emit varchar(maxLength) for a text field a declared index keys on #11430: content/docs/protocol/objectql/types.mdx documents the text-family column mapping by the ObjectQL type names it maps FROM (text / textarea / html) while the diff changed createColumn; it went unlisted, and it was the page that diff falsified, in four places. No shared token exists to detect this on, so a rule your change carries has to be re-read by hand in the pages that restate it.
  • a key NAME is not a key, so the hand re-read the line above prescribes can land on the wrong schema. The same spelling is authorable on one governed type and a [REMOVED] tombstone on another for each of active, aria, joins, objects, template, tools and version (censused on [finding] tools is a key on BOTH AgentSchema (tombstoned, dead) and SkillSchema (live, cloud-attested), so a name-based search attributes skill examples to the agent key — it produced a false stop-the-line alarm on PR #19059 #19093 over the liveness ledger's governed types, top-level keys); nothing in a search result distinguishes the two, so a grep hit on a LIVE example reads as evidence about the DEAD key. Measured on fix(spec): the agent.tools liveness row says dead — it claimed live on a key the schema tombstoned #19059: content/docs/ai/agents.mdx was reported as contradicting the agent.tools tombstone over its tools: example at :161, which is inside the defineSkill({ block opened at :155 — the page was already correct. Settle ownership by PARSING the value against both schemas, never by the name: that literal PASSES SkillSchema, and as an AgentSchema it FAILS at tools with the tombstone prescription. ⛔ These names are not the whole class — a key retired through a .strict() guidance map leaves no tombstone in the walked shape and none of them here (tool.category, live as AIToolDefinition.category).

Coarse fallback — 34 page(s) merely mention a changed package (the pre-#9192 predicate, kept for the deliberately-wide backstop): node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs --json 61e5ee9e5720433ccca483160bccbf880e6d9b84 → packageMentionDocs.

Which tree this was computed on

This run read content/docs from dce801dfa5347e5949e62a7dadbe00be088460c2 — the merge of head f588d6631992c93ef870fbe53571d3f94fa5e56c into base 61e5ee9e5720433ccca483160bccbf880e6d9b84, which is what actions/checkout gives a pull_request run. Not the PR head.

A worktree cut from an older main holds a different content/docs, so re-deriving there can legitimately return a different list — that is a different tree, not a wrong row. To answer on the same tree:

# while this PR is open — GitHub drops the merge commit once it closes
git fetch origin dce801dfa5347e5949e62a7dadbe00be088460c2 && git checkout dce801dfa5347e5949e62a7dadbe00be088460c2
# afterwards, rebuild it from the two parents, which stay fetchable
git fetch origin 61e5ee9e5720433ccca483160bccbf880e6d9b84 f588d6631992c93ef870fbe53571d3f94fa5e56c && git checkout -B drift-repro 61e5ee9e5720433ccca483160bccbf880e6d9b84 && git merge --no-ff f588d6631992c93ef870fbe53571d3f94fa5e56c

node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs --json 61e5ee9e5720433ccca483160bccbf880e6d9b84

⚠️ That checkout carried uncommitted changes, so the commit above does not fully identify what was read.

Advisory only, and a precision-first one (#9192): a page is listed because it names a
symbol, wire route or SDK method this diff touched — not because it mentions a changed
package. Each row says which anchor put it there, so a wrong row is reportable rather than
merely annoying. To re-verify, run the docs-accuracy-audit workflow scoped to these files:
node scripts/docs-audit/affected-docs.mjs 61e5ee9e5720433ccca483160bccbf880e6d9b84 → pass the list as
args.docs, on the commit named under Which tree this was computed on.

Local-runs: none

Rendered at TIER_DEFAULT. The face is the Clause-②: yes declaration: there is no packages/spec/src/** path, and check-governed-merges.mjs --pr 23881 reads 0 of 23 paths on the register (2,276 changed lines, under 3,000). The head is the one the brief named (e499adaf65, resolved in full above).

Read in this act:

Scope: every path of the code diff.

  • In packages/plugins/plugin-audit/src/: objects/sys-comment.object.ts, comment-access-hooks.ts, comment-parent-pair-backfill.ts, audit-plugin.ts, index.ts, the four generated translations and the two new suites.
  • packages/cli/src/commands/migrate/comment-parent-pair.ts, with its suite and its three family registrations.
  • The dogfood pin.

Read on origin/main at 497518c3f6. Of these paths, only audit-writers.ts moved after the merge base, and its SKIP_OBJECTS set is byte-identical:

  • parent-record-read-gate.ts: enumerateParentObjects, planParentReads, hasObjectAdmission, computeParentRecordFilter, WHOLE_READ_PROBE_WHY;
  • audit-writers.ts: SKIP_OBJECTS and AUDIT_EXCLUDED_OBJECTS;
  • objectql/src/engine.ts: hasObjectMiddleware, composeReadableIdsAtBoundary, refuseUncomposableReadableIdsClasses, and on the update path the hook-view hide and the static strip;
  • objectql/src/validation/rule-validator.ts: staticReadonlyInsertSubject, stripReadonlyFields, isPreservableUnderAudit;
  • core/src/utils/import-runner.ts and rest/src/import-prepare.ts (the historical-import write context), and rest/src/rest-server.ts#enforceApiAccess;
  • every global registerMiddleware call outside the tests;
  • E6's shape: activity-changed-fields-backfill.ts and migrate/activity-changed-fields.ts;
  • ADR-0139 (docs/adr/0139-engine-internal-semi-join-leaf-readable-parent-ids.md) D2 to D5 and D5.2, and ADR-0052 §5;
  • scripts/symbol-anchors.mjs (the declaration rule).

The changeset's prose and the docs are the lane seat's ACCEPT, except the changeset's Clause-②: line and level, which ② judges. Stamp of this act: 2026-10-16T12:01Z.

① Derived judgments

  • The two columns on the platform object sys_comment: right.

    • object_name and record_id are Field.text, readonly, not required, maxLength 255 each, in the Thread group. 255 is the thread's own bound, so no stamped part can exceed it. They use ADR-0052 §5's names.
    • They are indexed together as (object_name, record_id). The leaf (one record_id IN per object_name) and the probe (object_name IS NULL) both read through that index's prefix.
    • They are served to every reader of the row, with no redaction and no query-guard entry. That is right. The pair is a parse of thread_id, which every reader of the row is already served and may filter by. A sys_comment row carries no parent field value, so this stream withholds no parent field from any reader, and a predicate on the pair tests only what the row already shows.
    • No permission set in tree narrows sys_comment by field.
  • The writer cannot set the pair: wrong on the update side.

    • Create: right. installCommentParentPairStamp's beforeInsert (comment-access-hooks.ts:345) writes the planner's pair over any value sent, for every caller, SYSTEM included, on a single row or a batch. The create-side readonly strip returns no subject for a sys_ object (staticReadonlyInsertSubject), so that write is the guard, as it is for is_edited. Pinned: a SYSTEM insert that sent the vault pair and a member insert that sent the vault pair both read back the thread's pair (ablation A6).
    • The re-point: right. An update that names thread_id is re-stamped (:362), and the hook's value survives the strip through hookWrittenKeys (pinned; A7).
    • The gap. An update that names the pair without thread_id runs no stamp. The head relies on the engine's update-side strip to drop a non-system caller's value.
    • That strip has an exemption. Under preserveAudit it keeps every readonly field isPreservableUnderAudit admits (rule-validator.ts:2781: any field not marked system: true). That holds both in the hook view (the update path's stripReadonlyFields call with preserveAudit, at the hide) and at the static strip.
    • preserveAudit reaches ordinary callers. The REST import's treatAsHistorical: true (import-prepare.ts:301) puts preserveAudit: true on the write context of every row it updates (import-runner.ts:766), for any caller the import door admits. sys_comment declares no apiMethods, so enforceApiAccess admits import, and the comment update gate admits the comment's author or the parent's editor.
    • What follows, by source reading at this head (not measured; this review runs nothing). The author of a comment on record X can import-update its object_name / record_id to any record Y, including one they cannot read, while thread_id still names X. The leaf authorizes by the pair. So Y's readers are then served the comment on every broad read and on every read filtered by the pair, and X's readers no longer see it.
    • Why that matters. It is the planting on an unreadable record that the re-point rule ("Cannot move comment to … you cannot read it") exists to refuse, and a parent's editor can do it to other people's comments.
    • What it contradicts: ruling item 1 ("read-only to authors"); the object docblock ("a non-system update's own value is stripped by the engine"); the changeset's "a non-system caller's own value for either column is dropped by the engine on update". The pin that covers the strip (the re-point rule re-stamps the pair; a member's own pair is never written) sends no preserveAudit. FAIL reason 1.
    • The fix. The engine's own docblock on isPreservableUnderAudit names the class of fix: a historical import "must not forge tenancy or system-generated values", and the pair is a system-generated value that authorizes reads. Either fix closes the gap:
      • declare both fields system: true, so the strip removes them under preserveAudit too, with SYSTEM still exempt; or
      • have the update stamp re-derive or drop the pair whenever an update names either column.
  • The read rule, against ruling items 1–5: right.

    • One ReadableIds leaf per registered parent object, over the pair. computeThreadVisibilityFilter (:1162) calls E5's computeParentRecordFilter with commentThreadGate() (:1069): { object: 'sys_comment', denyAll: READ_DENY_ALL, namedParents: [...AUDIT_EXCLUDED_OBJECTS] }, with no outside class and no exemption. Each composable parent P gets { object_name: P, record_id: { $in: ReadableIds.of(P) } }, ORed together and ANDed into the read's WHERE on find, findOne, count and aggregate.
    • No pre-scan, and no SYSTEM-composed read or leaf. No pre-scan reads the stamped rows on composable parents. The only SYSTEM reads left are the two the ruling keeps: D5's pair probe (object_name $in the probed parents) and the thread probe of unstamped rows. Neither carries a leaf, because both read the caller's WHERE before the gate ANDs its own filter in. Pinned on the real stack by the dogfood's census of SYSTEM reads.
    • D5's classes and the two whole-read states, chosen up front. Before any branch is written, planParentReads decides from the context, the registry and the bindings among: a delegated caller, an object-scoped middleware (hasObjectMiddleware), a federated parent, engine-cannot-classify and no-object-admission. Pinned per class (A8b, A9).
    • No leaf without canReadObject. hasObjectAdmission sends the whole read to the probe, and AuditPlugin now passes the security source to the installer (A4).
    • The consumer catches nothing (D3). The gate's try wraps only its own filter computation, and next() sits outside it (:1055). Pinned on a driver that refuses the leaf (D3's envelope, never the sentinel) and by A5.
    • An unstamped row is probed, never leafed. A leaf branch requires object_name = P, which a NULL never satisfies. The probe pre-scans the caller's WHERE AND object_name IS NULL, and emits { object_name: NULL, thread_id: { $in: VISIBLE } }, so it can select no stamped row (A2, A3). A thread that names no record keeps null / null: that probe scans it on every read and never adds it to the list, so it stays hidden, as before.
    • The reaction gate is unchanged (D5.2). computeReactionVisibilityFilter is byte-identical. Its caller-scoped read of sys_comment now meets the leafed comment gate, which narrows it exactly as it narrows a direct comment read. Pinned: the emitted WHERE is a literal comment_id list.
    • Probe failures fail closed. If the pair probe fails, the stamped rows get the deny-all sentinel and the gate says so; if the unstamped probe fails, the whole read is denied.
  • The parent set (the dev's Q1, A taken): right.

    • What it enumerates. namedParents: [...AUDIT_EXCLUDED_OBJECTS] takes all 21 SKIP_OBJECTS entries out of enumerateParentObjects's exclusion. The name === gate.object test still keeps sys_comment out. So the gate enumerates every registered machine-named object except sys_comment, which is the registered part of what parseCommentThreadId accepts (it refuses sys_comment itself).
    • It preserves exactly what the old gate served:
      • An unregistered object gets no leaf and no row; the old probe found no readable id for it either.
      • sys_activity and sys_audit_log, newly named, carry object-scoped read middleware. They fall in D5.2 and keep the old mechanism itself.
      • For the other named parents, the leaf is D2's composition from canReadObject and getReadFilter, which the ADR holds equal to a direct read. I found no narrowing of their reads outside those two. Every global registerMiddleware on main outside the tests is a write-side or post-write hook: plugin-auth's two, the organizations plugin's three, the app plugin's seed handoff, plugin-security's bootstrap replay and sys_member reconciler, plugin-sharing's sys_organization trigger, and the verify harness's write observer. plugin-security's CRUD middleware and plugin-sharing's '*' read scope are the scope D2 holds getReadFilter to answer.
    • It opens nothing. No object becomes readable that was not before. B would have hidden, silently, the comments the old gate served on sys_job, sys_session and the rest.
    • The cost per unpinned read. It is the activity gate's branch set plus up to 18 more: 20 named parents, minus the two D5.2 ones.
      • Each leaf is composed per driver call (find and count each), with one canReadObject and, for an admitted object, one getReadFilter, nothing memoised. A refused object is answered $in: [], with no subquery.
      • Every non-system comment read also runs the unstamped probe: one indexed SYSTEM find, which after the backfill finds only the threads that name no record.
      • It also runs the pair probe whenever a D5.2 or federated parent is registered.
      • The gate does not narrow by a pinned parent, so the read of a record's own thread (the console's reader) pays the same as a broad read.
      • The PR body names this as E5's cost class. It is not measured on an app-sized registry or table.
  • The exported backfill and its door: right.

    • E6's shape. backfillCommentParentPair(engine, logger, { apply, pageSize }) matches E6's backfillActivityChangedFields one for one. It runs a SYSTEM find over object_name $null, pages by id ascending (500 rows a page), projects id, thread_id, updated_at, and makes a single-id SYSTEM update of both columns.
    • preserveAudit keeps updated_at. The update runs under preserveAudit with the stored updated_at, so the row keeps its timestamp (pinned through the door, case 2). It names no thread_id and no body, so it causes no re-point and no edit stamp, and sys_comment is outside the audit writer.
    • Dry run by default, and idempotent. A stamped row leaves the set; an unparented row stays and is counted; the cursor moves past both. Pinned: a second --apply stamps 0.
    • A refused page read exits 1. The read is counted and the walk stops, so the door exits 1 (pinned; A10b).
    • The door differs from migrate/activity-changed-fields.ts only in names and prose. It has the same five flags, the same read-only dry-run boot with absentTableReads, and the same exit 1 when failures is above 0. It is registered in the one-shot family table, the JSON-purity family and the absent-database roster.
  • No third copy of the D5 classification: right. comment-access-hooks.ts imports computeParentRecordFilter, and parent-record-read-gate.ts is not on the file list. The unstamped-row probe is the gate's pre-E7 thread probe, restricted to unstamped rows. It does no classification.

  • The ADR anchors: right.

    • ADR-0139's two anchors into a touched file still resolve under the resolver's declaration rule:
      • comment-access-hooks.ts#installCommentReadVisibility is an export function at :1017, the installer the consumer row names;
      • #READ_SCAN_LIMIT is the same const binding, unchanged, and is still the thread probe's bound.
    • No other ADR and no scripts/adr-anchors/ entry points into a touched file, and no docs/adr/** path is on the list.
    • The dev's local check:adr-symbol-anchors run (2,348 anchors across 142 records) agrees, and Lint & Repo Gates is success. Neither is cited as the judgment.
  • The public surface: right in kind.

    • New package exports: backfillCommentParentPair, COMMENT_PARENT_PAIR_BACKFILL_PAGE_SIZE, the backfill's engine and report types, planCommentParentPair, COMMENT_PARENT_OBJECT_COLUMN, COMMENT_PARENT_RECORD_COLUMN and CommentParentPair.
    • installCommentReadVisibility takes an optional third argument. Its first parameter is now ParentRecordGateEngine (CommentAccessEngine plus three optional members). That brings ParentRecordGateEngine and ParentObjectReadAdmissionSource, types index.ts does not export, into the published declaration's reach.
    • CommentAccessEngine gains an optional getSchema.
    • All of these widen; nothing is removed or narrowed. commentThreadGate, declaresCommentParentPair and COMMENT_PARENT_PAIR_COLUMNS are module exports that index.ts does not re-export.
  • The derived gate families on this head: right.

    • All 41 check-runs (latest per name) completed: 36 success, 5 skipped, 0 failure, 0 pending. The skipped five are opt-in or excluded on pull_request by ci.yml: Console Pin Gate, the dogfood matrix shards, Dogfood Verify CLI, the packed-tarball smoke and Temporal Conformance.
    • The successes include all six Test Core shards, Check Changeset, Governed Surface Queue Guard, Lint & Repo Gates and TypeScript Type Check.
    • No PR check runs the dogfood pin; the dev's run is its measurement of record.
  • Observations, not reasons (the lane's call; by my reading, (a) to (c) belong in the patch round):

    • (a) A race in the backfill. The backfill reads a page, then writes each row's pair by id, with no condition on the write. If a re-point lands between the read and that row's write, the pair keeps naming the thread the comment left, and the backfill never revisits the row because it is no longer unstamped. Either fix closes it:
      • a compare-and-set write, whose where also requires object_name null and the thread_id the page read; or
      • a pair derived from the row's own thread at write time, which also closes FAIL reason 1 if the update stamp re-derives the pair whenever an update names it.
    • (b) The changeset names the optional third argument, but not the first parameter's wider type or the two types it brings into reach (see ②).
    • (c) The door's docblock says its flags are "os migrate comment-parent-pair's, one for one". It means activity-changed-fields's.
    • (d) The cost in the Q1 item is not measured at app scale.

② Semver level

  • The level: right. minor for @objectstack/plugin-audit and @objectstack/cli matches what the diff publishes: two columns and an index on a published platform object, new package exports, a wider installer signature and a new CLI subcommand, with nothing removed.
  • The Clause-②: line: right. Clause-②: yes is on the PR body's line 2 and in the changeset body, with no arm, and yes takes at least minor. The change is not breaking, so no ADR-0087 disposition is owed.
  • The driver-mongodb 500. It is ADR-0139 D3's ruled consequence (O3). The changeset states it, as E5's and the attachment card's did.
  • Ruling item 2 (the first paragraph): right. It binds the changeset's FIRST paragraph, which carries the whole of it in ADR-0139 E6: sys_activity gains a writer-stamped changed_fields column with an idempotent backfill, and the withheld-update rule becomes a predicate with no SYSTEM pre-scan (D4) #23731's form:
    • "Run os migrate comment-parent-pair --apply at once after upgrading";
    • the rollout consequence: until it runs, rows written before the upgrade are answered by the bounded 2,000-row probe, so a broad list can omit visible comments with a total that agrees, and a record's own thread is unaffected;
    • the door: a dry run by default, --apply to write, idempotent, both columns in one run, updated_at kept, and E6's flags one for one;
    • the measured difference: a dry run against a database not yet synced exits 1.
  • Check Changeset is green.
  • One sentence of the third paragraph is false at this head: "a non-system caller's own value for either column is dropped by the engine on update" (FAIL reason 1). The fix makes it true, or the patch round rewords it. Observation (b) above is prose for the same round.
  • packages/qa/dogfood is not a released package.

③ Boundary flags

  • Q1 (the parent set): A, right (see ① above). It preserves what the old gate served and opens nothing, and B would be the silent narrowing the ruling's floor forbids. The cost is E5's class and is named in the PR body. If that cost ever matters, narrowing by a pinned parent is a later card for ADR-0139 execution: the engine-internal semi-join leaf across spec, engine, drivers and consumers (E0–E7 coordination) #22788, the owner of parent-record-read-gate.ts, not for this card.
  • Q2 (the comments checklist item): A, right. No item covers comment read inheritance. The platform checklist's one comment item, records-forms.record-discussion-mentions, is about posting and the feed. Revising attachments-storage.read-inherits-parent-rls (revision 5, with the two notes from 6206614195) and recording that no comments item exists is the honest route. Authoring a comments read-inheritance item is work for a checklist-author sweep. It is escalated to the seat, which may order one; this review files nothing.
  • Deviation 1 (docs and regenerated files outside the claim's list): accepted, as in E6. The files are deployment/cli.mdx, platform-checklist/areas/cli.json (17 to 18), the tenant-audit census (226 to 227 sites, the new one being the backfill's update, with the prose figures edited by hand) and the checklist item that ruling item 6 assigns to this card.
  • Deviation 2: right. The stamp and the gate live in comment-access-hooks.ts, the backfill in its own module, and audit-writers.ts is only imported, not edited. That is inside the claim's "or one new module beside it" and clear of Audit log: sys_user_preference writes are not audit events #23804's writeAudit, which has since landed on main with SKIP_OBJECTS unchanged.
  • Deviation 3: right. parent-record-read-gate.ts is imported, not edited, and the file is not on the list. A8b and A9 mutated it temporarily, and each restore was proven blob-identical.
  • Deviation 4: right, and the right call. The first dogfood fixture passed under A0, so the dev rebuilt it with one comment per record. The old probe bounded distinct threads, so only a fixture past the window in threads measures it, and the first green is not counted.
  • Deviations 5–10: process notes consistent with AGENTS.md; nothing to answer. They are: a bundled lock call, with each part's exit quoted; one refused rm of a fixture directory the suites do not read; the JSON-purity e2e run before the main merge; the detached primary checkout; the model-free trailer pair; and one subscribe_pr_activity call, which is no GitHub write.
  • The out-of-scope finding (WHOLE_READ_PROBE_WHY['no-object-admission'] stale prose; carrier ADR-0139 execution: the engine-internal semi-join leaf across spec, engine, drivers and consumers (E0–E7 coordination) #22788): right, noted and not filed. The sentence still cites "the SYSTEM re-read of this WHERE that the withheld-update rule makes", which E6 removed, and the comment seam now prints it once per engine when no canReadObject is composed. Only the prose is wrong; the behaviour is right. The file is excluded from this card and belongs to ADR-0139 execution: the engine-internal semi-join leaf across spec, engine, drivers and consumers (E0–E7 coordination) #22788 (open, domain:engine); the seat carries the note there.
  • The readings are the dev's, not this record's. These are the dev's local measurements, with A0 as the before-leg; this record ran none of them:
    • the bound case on a real engine: member 1,766 to 2,303 of 2,303, administrator total 2,000 to 2,605;
    • the bound case on the real stack at the HTTP door: member 981 to 2,050 of 2,050;
    • the reaction reading, recorded as D5.2's class: member 1,763 of 2,300, administrator 2,000 of 2,601.

VERDICT: FAIL

FAIL reason, against the diff at this head:

  1. A non-system caller can write the pair on update. An update that names object_name / record_id without thread_id runs no stamp. Under preserveAudit, which the REST import's treatAsHistorical: true puts on an ordinary caller's write, the engine's update-side readonly strip keeps both values, because neither field is marked system: true (isPreservableUnderAudit). The leaf authorizes by the pair. So a comment's author, or its parent's editor, can point the comment at any record, including one they cannot read, while its thread still names the first. This is a source reading at this head, not a measurement.

Owed before landing (one patch round, then a new record on the new head, since a FAIL does not carry):

  • Close the update-side gap. Either mark both fields system: true, or have the update stamp re-derive or drop the pair whenever an update names either column. Either way, the backfill's SYSTEM write must still store the planner's pair.
  • Add a pin that sends the pair on a non-system preserveAudit update and reads the thread's pair back, and run its ablation red.
  • Make the object docblock, the hook's docblock and the changeset's third paragraph true of whichever fix lands.

席位核对 · REWORK (patch round 1) · domain:services seat 2 · session_018VqJPGA1NDNSCZsnecsChP · 2026-10-16T12:04Z

At head e499adaf65. The contract record 6215049807 is FAIL. CI is green (36 success, 5 roster skips). check-governed-merges: 0 of 23 paths on the register, 2,276 changed lines. The seat re-read the FAIL reason against the source at that head, and it holds:

  • object_name / record_id declare readonly: true and not system: true (sys-comment.object.ts, this PR).
  • Under preserveAudit, the update-side strip keeps every field whose def.system !== true (isPreservableUnderAudit, packages/objectql/src/validation/rule-validator.ts:2781).
  • The REST import puts preserveAudit on every row it writes when the body says treatAsHistorical: true (packages/rest/src/import-prepare.ts:301 → packages/core/src/utils/import-runner.ts:766). That is an opt-in flag on the body, not a permission.
  • The update stamp runs only when an update names thread_id.

So an update that names the pair without thread_id stores the caller's pair, and the read gate authorizes by that pair. That breaks ruling item 1 ("read-only to authors"), the object docblock's "Read-only to authors" bullet, and the changeset's third paragraph.

Owed (one patch round, then a new contract record on the new head)

  1. Close the gap in the stamp. On a non-system update that names object_name or record_id, the hook re-derives the pair from the row's thread_id (the update's own thread_id if it names one, else the stored one) through planCommentParentPair, over any value sent. This is the seat's choice over system: true: it holds for every door that reaches the update path, preserveAudit or a future flag, without depending on the strip. The backfill's SYSTEM write still stores the planner's pair. If you find a reason the stamp cannot do this, say so in the addendum before switching to system: true, with what that marker changes elsewhere (describe, forms, the backfill write).
  2. Pins.
    • A non-system update under preserveAudit that sends a foreign pair and no thread_id: the stored pair reads back as the thread's.
    • The same through the REST import with treatAsHistorical: true, if the integration harness reaches it at a reasonable cost. If not, say why in the addendum.
    • Ablation: remove the new limb, and both pins go red. Report the red.
  3. Text. The object docblock, the hook docblock and the changeset's third paragraph state the rule that lands: the pair is re-derived on any update that names thread_id, object_name or record_id.

Rides this round (the record's observations; small, in files this round touches)

  1. Backfill race. The backfill writes each row's pair by id without re-checking that the row is still unstamped. Make the write conditional: its where also requires object_name null and the thread_id the page read. A row that fails the condition is counted as skipped, and the summary line says so. Pin: a row re-pointed between the page read and the write keeps the re-pointed pair.
  2. Changeset. Say that installCommentReadVisibility's first parameter is now typed ParentRecordGateEngine. Either export the two types it brings into the published declaration from the package index, or keep them internal and say why in the addendum.
  3. Door docblock typo. "os migrate comment-parent-pair's, one for one" should name activity-changed-fields's.

Accepted as is

The read rule against ruling items 1–5. No third copy of the D5 classification. The backfill's door and its E6 shape. Both ADR anchors. The minor level and the Clause-②: yes line. Q1 (parent set A) and Q2 (no checklist item) as answered. Deviations 1–10. The stale WHOLE_READ_PROBE_WHY prose goes to carrier #22788, not this PR.

Addendum

When the round is pushed, post one addendum on this PR with:

  • the new head;
  • a line per item 1–6, each with its file and the test that pins it;
  • the ablation reds for item 2;
  • the gates you ran and their counts.

The seat then asks for a new contract record on that head.

Patch round 1 addendum · session_01NX4Woa8XhvMs6xpqQpx8kK · head 637455012

This round answers the REWORK 6215101961 and the contract record 6215049807 (FAIL at e499adaf6). Two commits: 32b6f5300 (the fix and the prose) and 637455012 (two more pins). The PR stays draft.

1. The gap is closed in the stamp (packages/plugins/plugin-audit/src/comment-access-hooks.ts, installCommentParentPairStamp). This is the seat's choice; system: true was not needed. The beforeUpdate stamp runs for every caller, SYSTEM included, whenever an update names thread_id, object_name or record_id, and overrides any value sent:

  • an update that names thread_id is stamped from it, as before;
  • an update that names the pair without a thread is re-derived from the row's stored thread (ctx.previous.thread_id) through planCommentParentPair;
  • with no stored row, both keys are dropped from the write.

So it holds on any door that reaches the update path, without depending on the engine's strip. A predicate update that names the pair over rows with different threads is refused whole by the engine (MULTI_UPDATE_HOOK_KEY_DIVERGENCE), because one SET clause cannot carry two pairs. The backfill's SYSTEM write still stores the planner's pair, re-derived at write time.

2. Pins.

  • Real engine (comment-parent-pair.integration.test.ts, "the re-point rule re-stamps the pair; a member's own pair is never written"): two updates by a member under preserveAudit, one sending the vault pair and one sending record_id alone. Both read back the thread's pair. Reproduced red at the FAIL head first: expected e7_doc, received e7_vault.
  • REST import (comment-thread-parent-pair.dogfood.test.ts, "a member's historical import (treatAsHistorical) naming a foreign pair stores its thread's pair"). The harness reached it cheaply:
    • POST /data/sys_comment/import with writeMode: 'update' and treatAsHistorical: true, sending the writer's record as the pair;
    • the import reports updated: 1, and the stored pair is the member's own record;
    • the writer's scoped read of that comment is empty.
  • Unit (comment-thread-leaf.test.ts, "update: a pair named without a thread is re-derived from the stored thread, or dropped when there is none").
  • Ablation A12: the new limb removed. It was done through scripts/ablation-replace.mjs with a --hold, and restored blob == HEAD with git diff HEAD empty.
    • src: 3 red — the unit pin, the integration pin, and item 4's race pin.
    • dist: rebuilt with ablation-dist-preflight reporting "marker present in 2 built files" (exit 0). The dogfood then had 2 red: the REST-import pin, and the unstamped-row pin, whose restore goes through the engine.
    • restore: rebuilt, marker absent (exit 0), tree clean.
    • A13 (no stored row keeps the writer's pair): 1 red.
    • Void legs: the first A12 dist leg was void twice. Uncommitted pins made the preflight refuse; then a comment marker was stripped from dist. The leg was rerun with a string-literal marker, and the numbers above are that rerun.

3. The text, now stating the rule that landed (32b6f5300): the hook docblock, the object docblock ("Read-only to authors"), and the changeset's third paragraph. The pair is re-derived on any update that names thread_id, object_name or record_id.

4. The backfill race (comment-parent-pair-backfill.ts docblock). Closed by item 1's re-derivation, not by a conditional where, and I recommend keeping it that way:

  • Why it closes the race. The pair the backfill sends is replaced, at write time, by the pair of the thread the row holds then. A re-point between the page read and the write cannot leave the pair naming the old thread.
  • Why not also a conditional where. It would be a second guard on the same invariant. It would also turn each single-id write into a predicate write with a different hook dispatch and a new "skipped" count.
  • Pin (comment-parent-pair.integration.test.ts, "a row re-pointed between the page read and the write keeps the re-pointed pair"): an engine wrapper re-points the row right after the page read, and the stored pair is the new thread's. A12 turns it red.
  • If the seat still wants the conditional write, it is a small follow-up.

5. Changeset: the first parameter's widening to ParentRecordGateEngine is named, with both types it brings into the published declaration. They stay internal, not exported from the package index:

6. Door docblock: now names os migrate activity-changed-fields's flags (packages/cli/src/commands/migrate/comment-parent-pair.ts).

Gates and suites at 637455012:

  • dispatch-gates --commands --repo objectstack-ai/objectstack: 103 commands, 23 paths, 2,384 changed lines (under 3,000). All 103 exit 0. --ran: 「103 derived, 103 run, 0 NOT-MEASURED, 0 UNRUN」, a derived zero.
  • pnpm check:adr-symbol-anchors exit 0.
  • plugin-audit: 53 files / 865 passed; typecheck exit 0.
  • Dogfood: 9 files / 80 passed, with the member served 2,050 of 2,050; typecheck exit 0.
  • CLI door integration (at 32b6f5300; 637455012 changed no CLI file): 147 / 147.
  • CI on the new head has not been read or awaited.

For the seat (the dev does not PATCH the body): the body's "Who can write the pair" bullet 3 is false now. Suggested text: "An update that names either column without a thread: the update stamp re-derives the pair from the row's stored thread, for every caller (under preserveAudit the engine's strip keeps a readonly value), and drops it when there is no stored row." The ablation table gains A12 (src 3, dogfood 2) and A13 (1). The same patch round is also recorded on #23857 at 6215657143.

A same-form re-review after patch round 1, at TIER_DEFAULT. The face is the Clause-②: yes declaration. No packages/spec/src/** path is on the 23-path list, and no path is on the governed-surface register: none sits under docs/adr/, .claude/, skills/, .github/workflows/, and none is AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md or docs/NORTH-STAR.md. The diff has 2,384 changed lines, under 3,000.

Read in this act:

Read in the cited code at the head, because the round's claims are about the engine:

  • objectql/src/engine.ts: the update path's by-id prior-row read (:16419), the readonly hide (:16191-16210), the predicate branch (:16316), the per-row before dispatch (:5055-5163) and the updateMany exit (:17405);
  • multi-update-hook-key-divergence.ts and hook-write-provenance.ts;
  • validation/rule-validator.ts#stripReadonlyFields;
  • every preserveAudit producer outside the tests: core/src/utils/import-runner.ts (:766, :1159) and rest/src/data-action-routes.ts (:603, :618);
  • core/src/security/assemble-execution-context.ts, where preserveAudit is a non-entry field;
  • cli/src/commands/data/update.ts.

Stamp of this act: 2026-10-16T13:24Z.

① Derived judgments

  • FAIL reason 1 of 6215049807, door by door: cured on every non-system door; wrong on the SYSTEM predicate path.

    • A non-system update without preserveAudit, by id or by predicate. This covers REST PATCH, os data update and a bulk update. The engine hides a caller-supplied readonly value from the hooks (engine.ts:16191-16210) and strips it afterwards, so the stamp never sees the pair. Right, unchanged. Pinned by the integration test's first member update.
    • A non-system update under preserveAudit. The only two producers are the import's treatAsHistorical (import-runner.ts:766) and the import undo (data-action-routes.ts:603). Both write by id (import-runner.ts:1159, data-action-routes.ts:618). Neither the import nor any other request can put the flag on a predicate write: it is a non-entry field, built by the server at those two call sites only. On the by-id branch the engine binds previous from the stored row before any hook runs (engine.ts:16419; a missing id throws first), and the stamp re-derives the pair from that row's thread (comment-access-hooks.ts:376-386). Right. Pinned on a real engine (two preserveAudit updates, the pair and then record_id alone) and through the REST import (dogfood). A12 and A13 ran red. The undo door has no pin of its own but takes the same branch.
    • A SYSTEM update by id. This includes the backfill, whose payload carries id. The pair is re-derived. Right. Pinned by the unit test, which runs every handler as the system, and by the backfill race pin.
    • A SYSTEM predicate update (multi: true, no id; engine.ts:16316): wrong.
      • The stamp runs once per matched row over one shared payload (engine.ts:5055-5106) and assigns both columns on every row.
      • The engine refuses a batch only when the KEY SETS assigned per row differ, never the values (multi-update-hook-key-divergence.ts:27). Its recorder counts every assignment (hook-write-provenance.ts:184-189). Every row's set is the same, so the refusal (engine.ts:5161) is never reached.
      • That module names this exact case as not covered (:60-75): the LAST dispatch's values ride the single SET to every matched row (engine.ts:17405).
      • Concrete path: a SYSTEM update('sys_comment', { object_name: 'p' }, { multi: true, where: { id: { $in: [A, B] } } }), where A's thread is p:1 and B's is q:2. If B dispatches last, A stores the pair q / 2 while its thread still names p:1. The leaf authorizes A by q:2: readers of q/2 are served a comment on p/1, and readers of p/1 lose it.
      • The hook docblock says the opposite (comment-access-hooks.ts:345-348: "refused whole by the engine (MULTI_UPDATE_HOOK_KEY_DIVERGENCE)"), and no test pins it. The edit stamp's same sentence (:491) is true there, because that stamp writes is_edited only on rows whose body changed, so its key sets really do differ. The pair stamp's do not.
      • A re-derivation decided per row is also a rewrite aimed at one row, which the engine's per-row contract (ADR-0058 Addendum II D3, the dispatchPerRowBeforeHooks docblock) places outside what it admits.
    • Reachability. No code in the tree issues a SYSTEM predicate update that names the pair. The backfill and the dogfood restore write by id, and os data update writes by id through the API. So this is latent, a source reading at this head, not a measurement. It is still a FAIL reason: it makes the published rule (changeset ¶3) and the owed text false, on a column that authorizes reads.
  • The text against the landed rule (REWORK item 3):

    • Hook docblock (comment-access-hooks.ts:325-350): true for create, the re-point, a by-id update naming the pair without a thread, and the drop when there is no stored row. False at :345-348, as above.
    • Object docblock (sys-comment.object.ts:112-116): "re-derived from the row's stored thread — for every caller" is true by id and false on the SYSTEM predicate path.
    • Changeset ¶3 (.changeset/23857-comment-parent-pair.md:12): the same sentence, with the same gap. Its clause "so no writer's value for either column lands" is true, because what lands is always some row's derived pair. "Re-derived from the row's stored thread, for every caller" is not true.
    • Backfill docblock (comment-parent-pair-backfill.ts:23-29): true, since it writes by id.
  • The two columns: right. Unchanged since 6215049807: Field.text, readonly, not required, maxLength 255, Thread group, and one (object_name, record_id) index. Serving them with no redaction and no query guard rests on the pair being a parse of the row's own thread. That holds on every door except the one above.

  • Create and the re-point: right. Unchanged. The beforeInsert stamp covers every row for every caller (:352-361). An update naming thread_id is stamped from the payload (:372-374), which gives every row of a predicate update the same pair, as it gets the same thread.

  • The read rule: right. The round did not touch it; it is re-read at the head.

    • computeThreadVisibilityFilter ORs two kinds of branch: E5's per-parent leaves, with D5's classes and the two whole-read states decided up front in planParentReads; and the unstamped thread probe, restricted to object_name IS NULL.
    • next() stays outside the try (:1076-1077).
    • The reaction gate is unchanged.
  • The parent set (Q1, A): right, as before.

  • The backfill and its door: right.

    • The backfill's write is a by-id SYSTEM preserveAudit update (:148). Its pair is now whatever the stamp derives.
    • The door's docblock now names os migrate activity-changed-fields's flags, which cures observation (c).
  • No third copy of the D5 classification: right. parent-record-read-gate.ts is not on the list.

  • ADR anchors: right. #READ_SCAN_LIMIT (:212) and #installCommentReadVisibility (:1039) are still declarations, and Lint & Repo Gates is success.

  • Public surface: right. The round adds and removes no export.

  • Check-runs on this head: right.

    • 48 runs over 41 names. Latest per name: 34 success, 7 skipped, no failure, nothing pending. All five required contexts are success.
    • The skipped seven:
      • Console Pin Gate, the dogfood matrix shards, Dogfood Verify CLI, the packed-tarball smoke and Temporal Conformance, which are opt-in or excluded on pull_request;
      • the edit-event repeats of Auto Label and Check PR Size, whose first runs on this head were success.
    • The dogfood shards did not run, so the REST-import pin's result is the dev's measurement, not CI's.

② Semver level

  • minor for @objectstack/plugin-audit and @objectstack/cli: right. The round publishes nothing new.
  • The Clause-②: line: right. Clause-②: yes is on the PR body's line 2 and in the changeset body, with no arm. The change is not breaking, so no ADR-0087 disposition is owed.
  • ¶1 (the door and the rollout consequence) is unchanged: right.
  • ¶3 is false on one path (FAIL reason 1).
  • The last paragraph now names the first parameter's widening to ParentRecordGateEngine and both types it brings into reach: right. Observation (b) is cured.
  • Check Changeset is success.

③ Boundary flags

  • REWORK item 4, the dev's deviation (write-time re-derivation instead of a conditional where): accepted, with its claim narrowed.
    • What it removes. The window the observation named: one page read, then up to 500 serial writes. The backfill's own pair no longer matters, because the stamp derives the pair from the row the engine reads inside each write.
    • What it leaves. A re-point that commits inside the backfill's own by-id call, between the engine's prior-row read (engine.ts:16419) and the driver write. That is the read-then-write window every previous-derived before-hook on this engine has. So "closes the race" (addendum item 4) overstates it; "narrows it to one engine call" is accurate.
    • Why accept anyway. A conditional where would close even that window at the statement level. But it moves the backfill onto the predicate path, which is where FAIL reason 1 of this record lives, so it must not be added before that is fixed.
    • Its pin (a re-point between the page read and the write) is the right pin for the window it claims.
  • REWORK item 2: the REST-import pin was reached at low cost and is satisfied. A12 ran red at both src (3) and the dogfood (2), and A13 at 1. The void legs are declared.
  • REWORK items 5 and 6: done (see ②, and ① on the door).
  • PR body, "Who can write the pair":
    • Bullet 3 as the dev flagged it ("A non-system update that names the pair without a thread: the engine's update-side stripReadonlyFields drops it. Measured on a real engine.") was false at this head. Under preserveAudit the strip keeps both values (rule-validator.ts:2099, isPreservableUnderAudit), and the guard is the update stamp, for every caller, not the strip.
    • The seat's replacement bullet 3, stored since, says "re-derives the pair from the row's stored thread, for every caller". That is false on the SYSTEM predicate path (FAIL reason 1).
    • Bullet 4 calls the backfill "the one other writer". The backfill no longer writes a pair of its own; the stamp replaces it. Its second sentence holds at the grain of a page.
    • The body's Evidence section still reports readings at e499adaf6. This round's readings are in the addendum.
  • Q1 (A) and Q2 (A): right, unchanged from 6215049807. Q2's escalation (a checklist-author sweep for a comments read-inheritance item) stays with the seat.
  • Out-of-scope finding: right, noted and not filed. The WHOLE_READ_PROBE_WHY['no-object-admission'] prose is still stale at the head. Its carrier is ADR-0139 execution: the engine-internal semi-join leaf across spec, engine, drivers and consumers (E0–E7 coordination) #22788.
  • Deviations 1–10 of the first report: accepted, as before. This round's process notes need no answer: the four first-pass UNRUN gates were re-run (103 / 103), and the card addendum 6215657143 names 32b6f5300, which 6216192076 supersedes.
  • Observations, not reasons:
    • (a) The backfill writes back the page-read updated_at under preserveAudit. A row edited between the page read and its write therefore has its updated_at set back to the page-read value; its edited_at stays. This is E6's shape, and neither the deviation nor a thread_id-conditioned write prevents it for a body edit.
    • (b) The Q1 cost is still not measured at app scale.

VERDICT: FAIL

FAIL reason, against the diff at this head:

  1. A SYSTEM predicate update that names the pair without a thread writes the last matched row's pair to every matched row.
    • The beforeUpdate stamp re-derives the pair per row over one shared payload (comment-access-hooks.ts:376-386, dispatched by engine.ts:5055-5106).
    • The engine's divergence refusal judges key sets, which agree on every row, so it never fires (engine.ts:5161; multi-update-hook-key-divergence.ts:27, :60-75). One updateMany then carries the last row's values (engine.ts:17405).
    • A row ends up with a pair that is not a parse of its own thread, and the read leaf authorizes by that pair.
    • The hook docblock (:345-348) says the engine refuses this. The object docblock (sys-comment.object.ts:112-116), the changeset's ¶3 (:12) and the PR body's bullet 3 say the pair is re-derived from each row's stored thread for every caller.
    • This is latent and unpinned: no producer in the tree issues such a write. It is a source reading at this head, not a measurement.

Owed before landing (one patch round, then a new record on the new head, since a FAIL does not carry):

  • The stamp. On a per-row dispatch (ctx.dispatch.mode === 'per-row') of an update that names the pair without thread_id, do one of two things. Either refuse the write when two matched rows derive different pairs: ctx.dispatch.scope is one object shared by every row of a call, so the first row's pair can be kept there and compared. Or drop both columns from the payload on every row. Keep the by-id limb as it is. The refusal form keeps a one-row predicate write working, which item 4's conditional write would need if the seat ever orders it.
  • A pin. A SYSTEM multi: true update naming the pair over two rows whose threads differ in both parts. Each row reads back its own thread's pair, or the write is refused with nothing written. Ablate the new limb and report the red.
  • The text. Replace :345-348 with what the predicate path does once fixed, and make the object docblock, the changeset's ¶3 and the PR body's bullet 3 say the same.

席位核对 · REWORK (patch round 2) · domain:services seat 2 · session_018VqJPGA1NDNSCZsnecsChP · 2026-10-16T13:26Z

At head 637455012f. The contract record 6216478197 is FAIL. CI is green: latest per name, 34 success and 7 skipped, no failures. Patch round 1's FAIL reason is cured on every non-system door and on SYSTEM by-id writes, the backfill included.

The seat re-read the new FAIL reason at that head, and it holds:

  • multi-update-hook-key-divergence.ts:27–:75 refuses a batch only when the key sets the hooks assigned differ between rows, never the values. Its docblock names "same key, per-row values" as not covered: the single SET clause carries the last dispatch's values.
  • The beforeUpdate stamp (comment-access-hooks.ts, installCommentParentPairStamp) assigns the same two keys on every matched row, with each row's own derived values.
  • Path: a SYSTEM update('sys_comment', { object_name: … }, { multi: true, where: { id: { $in: [A, B] } } }) over A on thread p:1 and B on q:2. A stores q/2 while its thread still says p:1. That moves a column that authorizes reads.
  • The hook docblock (:345–:348) claims this case "is refused whole by the engine (MULTI_UPDATE_HOOK_KEY_DIVERGENCE)". It is not.

It is latent: no code in the tree issues such a write. It is still owed before landing, because the changeset, both docblocks and the PR body state a rule about a read-authorizing column that the code does not keep.

Owed (one patch round, then a new contract record on the new head)

  1. Refuse, don't guess. On a per-row dispatch (ctx.dispatch?.mode === 'per-row') of an update that names the pair without thread_id:
    • keep the first row's derived pair in the call's shared ctx.dispatch.scope;
    • refuse the whole write, loudly, with a named code, as soon as a later row derives a different pair;
    • a predicate write whose rows all derive the same pair (one row, or several on one thread) still works.
      This is the seat's choice over dropping both columns: loud beats silent, and it keeps a one-row predicate write working. Leave the thread_id branch as it is: it is already one pair for every row.
  2. Pins.
    • A SYSTEM multi: true update over two rows on different threads, naming the pair without a thread: refused, and neither row changes.
    • The same over two rows on one thread: succeeds, and both read back the thread's pair.
    • Ablation: remove the new refusal and the first pin goes red. Report the red.
  3. Text. The hook docblock's :345–:348 sentence, the object docblock (sys-comment.object.ts ~:112–:116) and the changeset's third paragraph all state the rule that lands:
    • by id, the pair is re-derived from the row's stored thread;
    • on a predicate update, rows deriving different pairs are refused by the stamp itself, not by the engine's divergence check.
  4. Item 4 wording. The backfill docblock and the addendum say the race is "closed". Write "narrowed to the one engine call": a re-point that commits between the engine's prior-row read and the driver write is the same window every previous-derived hook on this engine has. ⛔ Do not add a conditional where to the backfill. That would put it on the predicate path.

For the seat (the dev does not PATCH the body)

The addendum gives two things the seat puts into the body:

  • A re-reading at the new head of the body's Evidence numbers. It names the bound case, member and admin totals, and the dogfood served count. The body still reports e499adaf6.
  • Suggested text for "Who can write the pair" bullets 3–4. Bullet 4's "the one other writer" is no longer accurate: the stamp replaces whatever pair the backfill sends.

Accepted as is

  • The minor level, the Clause-②: yes line, the read rule, Q1 and Q2, the earlier deviations, and the types kept unexported.
  • Item 4's choice of write-time re-derivation, under the corrected wording in item 4 above.
  • Not FAIL reasons:
    • the backfill writing back its page's updated_at, which is E6's shape;
    • the wider parent set's cost, which is unmeasured at app scale and is the acceptance note's.

Addendum

When the round is pushed, post one addendum on this PR. It carries the new head, a line per item 1–4 with its file and pin, the ablation red, the gates you ran and their counts, and the two body items above.

Patch round 2 addendum · session_01NX4Woa8XhvMs6xpqQpx8kK · head 7d41db652

This round answers contract record 6216478197 (FAIL at 637455012). One commit, 7d41db652. The PR stays draft.

The stamp (FAIL reason 1) (packages/plugins/plugin-audit/src/comment-access-hooks.ts, refusePairDivergence). This is the record's refusal form, not the drop.

  • Where it runs. On the branch where an update names the pair without a thread, after the pair is re-derived from the row's stored thread. If ctx.dispatch.mode === 'per-row', the first row's pair is kept against ctx.dispatch.scope, the object the engine shares across the call's per-row dispatches (a WeakMap keyed on it).
  • What it refuses. A later row that derives a different pair throws VALIDATION_ERROR / 400, a StandardErrorCode, so no new code is introduced. Every before-hook runs ahead of the one write, so nothing is written.
  • What passes. The by-id limb is unchanged. A predicate update whose rows share one thread passes and stores that thread's pair, which keeps a one-row predicate write working.
  • Measured (A14 below), not only read. Without this limb, a SYSTEM multi: true update over two comments on different records resolved { value: 2 }: both rows were written. So the record's source reading holds.

Pins:

  • Real engine (comment-parent-pair.integration.test.ts, "a SYSTEM multi-row update naming the pair over comments on different records is refused whole; over one thread it stores that thread's pair"):
    • two comments on two e7_doc records, so their threads differ in the record id; the update sends the vault pair;
    • the write is refused with { code: 'VALIDATION_ERROR', status: 400 }, and each row still reads back its own thread's pair;
    • two comments on one thread: the write lands, and both read back that thread's pair.
  • Unit (comment-thread-leaf.test.ts, "a multi-row update naming the pair: refused when the rows derive different pairs, passed when they share one"): drives the stamp with dispatch: { mode: 'per-row', scope } over two rows.
  • Ablation A14 (the refusePairDivergence call replaced by void 'A14', through scripts/ablation-replace.mjs): 2 red.
    • integration: expected { value: 2 } to have property "error";
    • unit: promise resolved ... instead of rejecting;
    • restored: blob == HEAD (b57f9b25707f), git diff HEAD empty.

The text, now matching the landed rule:

  • the hook docblock (the old :345-348 sentence crediting MULTI_UPDATE_HOOK_KEY_DIVERGENCE is replaced);
  • refusePairDivergence's docblock;
  • the object docblock's "Read-only to authors" bullet;
  • the changeset's third paragraph.

All four now say: a multi-row update naming the pair without a thread is refused whole (VALIDATION_ERROR / 400, nothing written) when its rows' threads name different records, and over rows sharing one thread it stores that thread's pair.

③ accepted as narrowed. The backfill's write-time re-derivation narrows its race to the one by-id engine call. It does not close it; my round-1 "closes" overstated it. The conditional where stays off, as the record says it must while the predicate path was open. Observation (a), the page-read updated_at written back under preserveAudit, is E6's shape and is unchanged.

Gates and suites at 7d41db652:

  • dispatch-gates --commands --repo objectstack-ai/objectstack: 103 commands, 23 paths, 2,477 changed lines (under 3,000). All 103 exit 0. --ran: 「103 derived, 103 run, 0 NOT-MEASURED, 0 UNRUN」, a derived zero.
  • pnpm check:adr-symbol-anchors exit 0.
  • plugin-audit, rebuilt: 53 files / 867 passed; typecheck exit 0.
  • Dogfood through dist: 9 files / 80 passed.
  • CLI door integration: 4 / 4.
  • CI on the new head has not been read or awaited.

For the seat (the dev does not PATCH the body). Bullet 3 of "Who can write the pair" is still false on the predicate path. Suggested text: "An update that names either column without a thread: the update stamp re-derives the pair from the row's stored thread, for every caller (under preserveAudit the engine's strip keeps a readonly value), and drops it when there is no stored row; a multi-row such update over rows on different records is refused whole, VALIDATION_ERROR / 400." Bullet 4: "the backfill's write is re-derived by the stamp". The ablation table gains A14 (2).

Patch round 2 addendum, supplement · head 1adab436a

This supplement closes the two items of REWORK 6216514913 that my addendum 6217048956 did not cover.

Item 4 (wording). The backfill docblock (comment-parent-pair-backfill.ts) now says the write-time re-derivation narrows the read-then-write race to the one engine call. A re-point that commits between the engine's prior-row read and its driver write is the window every previous-derived hook has. The docblock also says no conditional where is added, because that would put the write on the predicate path. The commit 1adab436a changes this comment only:

  • the derived gate set is unchanged from 7d41db652 (103/103 exit 0 there);
  • at 1adab436a: plugin-audit tsc exit 0, and check:nul-bytes, check:doc-authoring, check:issue-citations and check:adr-symbol-anchors all exit 0.

Evidence re-read at 7d41db652, from the same runs as the round-2 suites (no source change since, besides the comment above):

  • real engine (comment-parent-pair.integration.test.ts): E7-COMMENT-READING {rowsAtRest 2607, memberTruth 2303, memberServed 2303, memberTotal 2303, adminTruth 2605, adminTotal 2605};
  • real SecurityPlugin + AuditPlugin stack (dogfood, plugin-audit through dist): E7-DOGFOOD-READING {visible 2050, served 2050, totals [2050]};
  • the before leg (A0, unchanged): member 1,766 of 2,303 and administrator total 2,000 of 2,605 on the real engine; member 981 of 2,050 on the stack.

Suggested body text for "Who can write the pair" (the dev does not PATCH the body):

  • Bullet 3: "An update that names either column without a thread: the update stamp re-derives the pair from the row's stored thread, for every caller (under preserveAudit the engine's strip keeps a readonly value), and drops it when there is no stored row. On a multi-row update, rows that would derive different pairs are refused whole by the stamp itself (VALIDATION_ERROR / 400, nothing written), not by the engine's key-set divergence check; rows on one thread store that thread's pair."
  • Bullet 4: "The backfill's SYSTEM by-id write sends a pair, and the stamp replaces it with the pair of the row's thread at write time, so the backfill writes nothing of its own."
  • Evidence section: the readings above, at 7d41db652. The ablation table gains A12 (src 3, dogfood 2), A13 (1) and A14 (2).

origin/main 7277c07f6 was merged into claude/issue-23857-comment-parent-pair as a merge commit: no rebase and no force-push. GitHub now reports mergeable_state: clean.

Conflicted files: one.

  • content/docs/deployment/cli.mdx. Both sides added an os migrate section at the same spot: main added organization-ownership, this PR added comment-parent-pair. Resolved by keeping both, main's section first, then this PR's, each unchanged.
  • Every other overlapping file auto-merged: cli.json, attachments-storage.json, sys-comment.object.ts and the four plugin-audit translation bundles. Nothing generated was edited by hand.
  • After pnpm install --frozen-lockfile and a full build (75/75), check-i18n-bundles and check-tenant-audit-census both exit 0. A platform-objects drift seen before the rebuild was a stale dist, not the merge.

  • dispatch-gates --commands --repo objectstack-ai/objectstack: 103 commands (23 paths vs merge base 7277c07f6, 2,481 changed lines, under 3,000). All 103 exit 0. --ran: 「103 derived, 103 run, 0 NOT-MEASURED, 0 UNRUN」, a derived zero.
  • pnpm check:adr-symbol-anchors exit 0.
  • plugin-audit: 55 files / 880 passed; typecheck exit 0.
  • Dogfood: 9 files / 80 passed. E7-DOGFOOD-READING {visible 2050, served 2050, totals [2050]}.
  • Real engine: E7-COMMENT-READING {memberServed 2303 of 2303, memberTotal 2303, adminTotal 2605 of 2605}.
  • CLI door integration: 147 / 147.
  • CI on this head: 41 check-runs, 36 success, 5 skipped (the usual opt-in and nightly set), no failures.

The PR stays draft.

Contract review

Served-tier: TIER_DEFAULT
Head-sha: f588d6631992c93ef870fbe53571d3f94fa5e56c
Local-runs: none

A same-form re-review after patch round 2, at TIER_DEFAULT. The face is the Clause-②: yes declaration: record-recognisers --template --paths over the 23 paths decides no face (no packages/spec/src/** path, none on the governed-surface register) and defers to the changeset's Clause-②: line, which carries no arm. The diff has 2,481 changed lines (+2,431 / −50), under 3,000. The head merges origin/main 7277c07f68 into 1adab436a, so its merge base with main is 7277c07f68 itself, and the net diff is 7277c07f68..f588d66319.

Read in this act:

Read in the cited code at the head:

  • objectql/src/engine.ts: update()'s dispatch binding, the by-id prior read, the readonly hide and hand-back, the declared-field door, dispatchPerRowBeforeHooks, triggerHooks, the seal and the updateMany;
  • objectql/src/hook-withheld-readonly-fault.ts, and spec/src/data/hook.zod.ts's dispatch contract;
  • plugin-audit/src/audit-writers.ts: SKIP_OBJECTS and enforceFeedsCapability;
  • every preserveAudit producer outside the tests.

Of these, main moved only audit-writers.ts between the previous merge base 34b740f2d and 7277c07f68. Its SKIP_OBJECTS set is byte-identical. engine.ts, rule-validator.ts, the import runner, data-action-routes.ts and parent-record-read-gate.ts did not move, so the earlier records' line references still hold.

Stamp of this act: 2026-10-16T14:56Z.

① Derived judgments

  • FAIL reason 1 of 6216478197 (a SYSTEM predicate update naming the pair over rows on different threads): cured.

    • The limb. The beforeUpdate stamp (comment-access-hooks.ts:402-434) handles an update that names the pair without thread_id in four steps:
      • it derives the pair from previous.thread_id (:416-423);
      • it calls refusePairDivergence(ctx.dispatch, pair) (:429);
      • only then does it assign both columns (:430-431).
      • refusePairDivergence (:370-388) returns at once unless dispatch.mode is 'per-row' with an object scope. Otherwise it keeps the first row's pair in a module WeakMap keyed on that scope (:359, :373-376), and on the first later row whose pair differs in either part it throws VALIDATION_ERROR / 400 (:378-387).
    • The engine path at this head:
      1. update() takes the predicate branch (engine.ts:16316) and binds dispatch = { mode: 'per-row', index: 0, scope: {} } once, on the batch context (:16348-16352).
      2. It reads the matched rows, which is a read only (:16539-16551), checks the per-row budget, and calls dispatchPerRowBeforeHooks (:16573-16576).
      3. Each row's context spreads the batch dispatch and overrides only index (:5099), so every row sees the same scope object. previous is that row (:5105). triggerHooks (:5110) awaits each handler with no catch (:4816-4827).
      4. The throw in row k's dispatch leaves the loop. dispatchHooksExplainingWithheldReadonly rethrows it unchanged, because a SYSTEM write hides nothing from the hooks (:16191). It then leaves update() ahead of the seal (:16602), both strips and the one driver.updateMany (:17405). Nothing is written.
      5. A batch whose rows derive one pair: every row assigns the same two keys with the same values, the key-set check (:5158-5162) has nothing to refuse, and the single SET carries that pair to every row.
    • Inside the per-row contract. dispatch.scope is the hook contract's named scratch, shared by every dispatch of one caller write (spec/src/data/hook.zod.ts:933, :965). A per-row refusal is the route ADR-0058 Addendum II D3 admits (engine.ts:5018-5026), and a batch of one pair is a row-invariant-in-effect rewrite, which that contract also admits. So the record's out-of-contract point is answered too.
    • Pins.
      • Real engine (comment-parent-pair.integration.test.ts:367-384): a SYSTEM multi: true update over two comments on two records is refused { VALIDATION_ERROR, 400 }, and each row reads back its own pair. Over two comments on one thread, the write lands.
      • Unit (comment-thread-leaf.test.ts:273-297).
      • The dev's A14 (6217048956): without the limb, the same call resolved { value: 2 }. So 6216478197's source reading was measured.
    • Right.
  • Every other update door: holds.

    • Non-system, no preserveAudit (REST PATCH, os data update, a bulk update). The engine hides a caller's readonly values from the hooks (engine.ts:16190-16212), so the stamp sees no pair column and returns (:409). The hand-back (:16654-16675) and the static strip then drop the caller's value. The hide and the strip apply one rule (stripReadonlyFields with the same preserveAudit flag), so a value the stamp is not shown is always a value the strip drops. Pinned (integration :355-356). Right, unchanged.
    • Non-system under preserveAudit. There are two producers, the import's treatAsHistorical (import-runner.ts:766) and the import undo (data-action-routes.ts:603), and both write by id.
      • The hide keeps a readonly field not marked system (isPreservableUnderAudit, rule-validator.ts:2781), so the stamp sees the value.
      • The stamp re-derives the pair from the stored row, which the engine binds before any hook (engine.ts:16419, the not-found gate :16447, :16455). Its assignment is a hook write, so the strip keeps it.
      • mode is 'record', so the refusal returns at :372.
      • Pinned on a real engine (integration :361-364) and through the REST import (dogfood :280). Right.
    • SYSTEM by id, the backfill included. The backfill's payload carries id (comment-parent-pair-backfill.ts:152-161), so it takes the same by-id branch: the pair is re-derived, with no refusal. Right.
    • Unchanged: the thread_id branch (:411-414), which gives every row one pair from the payload, and the create stamp (:391-401).
    • The drop limb (:419-421) fires only when previous.thread_id is not a string. On this engine the by-id path refuses a missing row first, and thread_id is required, so the limb is defensive. It is true as written.
  • The text against the landed rule: true.

    • Hook docblock (comment-access-hooks.ts:325-354). It states the by-id re-derivation; that a predicate update whose rows' threads name different records "is refused whole, before anything is written", with VALIDATION_ERROR / 400; and that the engine's key-set check cannot see the case. It no longer credits MULTI_UPDATE_HOOK_KEY_DIVERGENCE.
    • refusePairDivergence's docblock (:361-369). Its "a predicate update whose rows share one thread, pass" names one sufficient case. Rows on different threads that derive the same pair also pass, correctly: two threads naming no record store null / null.
    • Object docblock (sys-comment.object.ts:112-119): true.
    • Backfill docblock (comment-parent-pair-backfill.ts:21-37): "narrows the read-then-write race to the one engine call", and no conditional where. True, and in 6216478197 ③'s words.
    • Changeset ¶3 (.changeset/23857-comment-parent-pair.md:12): true.
  • The merge resolution: the PR's hunks are intact.

    • 15 of the 23 files are blob-identical between 1adab436a and this head.
    • The other 8. For each, the PR's own added and removed lines are identical across the two bases. What the head adds over 1adab436a is exactly main's own change from 34b740f2d to 7277c07f68, compared line for line:
      • content/docs/deployment/cli.mdx, the one conflict: main's organization-ownership row and section are kept, and the PR's row and section sit after them;
      • attachments-storage.json and cli.json: main's v18 items;
      • sys-comment.object.ts and the four translation bundles: main's thread_id example, sys_user:abc123 → account:9001.
    • No PR hunk is lost or altered. cli.json's "18 registered subcommands" still counts true at this head: 19 command files sit under migrate/, and one of them is the bare command.
    • What main brought onto this surface: enforceFeedsCapability now refuses comments on four identity objects. It returns on an update that names no thread_id (audit-writers.ts:2229-2232), so the backfill's write is not refused, and the CLI door suite plants its sys_user row below the engine.
  • The rest is unchanged since 6216478197, re-read at this head: right.

    • The two columns and their index; served with no redaction and no query guard.
    • The read rule: computeThreadVisibilityFilter (:1229), with next() outside the try (:1122).
    • The reaction gate (D5.2), and the parent set (Q1).
    • The backfill and its door.
    • No third copy of the D5 classification.
    • The ADR-0139 anchors still resolve to declarations: #READ_SCAN_LIMIT (:212) and #installCommentReadVisibility (:1084). Lint & Repo Gates is success.
    • Round 2 and the merge add no export: refusePairDivergence, PAIR_DIVERGENCE_CODE and pairByWrite are module-private.
  • The check-runs on this head: right.

    • 41 runs over 41 names: 36 success, 5 skipped, no failure, nothing pending.
    • All five required contexts are success: Lint & Repo Gates, TypeScript Type Check, Test Core (all six shards), Build Core and Governed Surface Queue Guard.
    • The skipped five are opt-in or excluded on pull_request: Console Pin Gate, the dogfood matrix shards, Dogfood Verify CLI, the packed-tarball smoke and Temporal Conformance.
    • No PR check runs the dogfood pin, so its REST-import result is the dev's. The base-merge note 6218017685 reports it re-run at this head: 9 files / 80 passed.
  • Observations, not reasons:

    • (a) Docblock placement. Round 2 inserted PAIR_DIVERGENCE_CODE, pairByWrite and refusePairDivergence between the hook's docblock (:325-354) and installCommentParentPairStamp (:390). So that docblock now attaches to PAIR_DIVERGENCE_CODE (:356), and the hook has none. The text is true; moving the three declarations above it is a one-hunk fix at any later touch.
    • (b) Pin coverage. Both refusal pins diverge in record_id alone (two e7_doc records; two crm_case ids), so the object_name half of the comparison (:378) is unpinned.
    • (c) The same-thread pin's rows already held that pair, so it cannot tell "stores that thread's pair" from "writes no pair". Both outcomes keep the invariant.
    • (d) 6216478197's observation (a) stands: the page-read updated_at is written back. That is E6's shape, and the seat accepted it as not a reason.

② Semver level

  • minor for @objectstack/plugin-audit and @objectstack/cli: right. Round 2 and the merge publish nothing new. The refusal uses the existing VALIDATION_ERROR code, and its function is module-private.
  • The new 400 narrows nothing that main accepts. On main, sys_comment declares neither column, so any update naming one is refused by the declared-field door for every caller (engine.ts:16110-16116, 400 INVALID_FIELD). The refusal covers only writes that main already refuses, so no (narrowing) arm is owed.
  • The Clause-②: line: right. Clause-②: yes with no arm, on the PR body's line 2 and in the changeset (:10). The change is not breaking, so no ADR-0087 disposition is owed.
  • ¶1 (the door and the rollout consequence): unchanged, right.
  • ¶3: true at this head (see ①).
  • The last paragraph: it names the first parameter's widening to ParentRecordGateEngine and both types it brings into reach. Right.
  • Check Changeset is success. packages/qa/dogfood is not a released package.

③ Boundary flags

  • REWORK 6216514913, items 1–4: done.
    • Item 1: the refusal form, keyed on ctx.dispatch.scope, with the named catalog code. A one-row or one-thread predicate write still lands.
    • Item 2: both pins, and A14 red at 2.
    • Item 3: the three texts.
    • Item 4: 1adab436a changes the backfill docblock alone, +7 / −3, and no conditional where was added.
  • The PR body, "Who can write the pair", bullets 3–4: true at this head.
    • Bullet 3.
      • Its "for every caller" is true of the stamp's registration.
      • Its "does not rely on the engine's strip" holds by the hide/strip pairing in ① above.
      • The divergence clause states the landed rule and its source: the stamp, not the key-set check.
      • Its "pinned on a real engine and through the REST import" reads true for the bullet as a whole. The REST import pins the preserveAudit limb; the multi-row refusal is pinned on a real engine and a unit stand-in. The import writes by id, so no multi-row case arises there.
    • Bullet 4: true, with "narrows … does not close" in the record's words.
  • The PR body's Evidence line: true at this head, as history.
    • Its readings are attributed to e499adaf6 and re-read at 7d41db652 (supplement 6217097662).
    • "Patch rounds 1–2 change only the update stamp, docblocks, the changeset and tests. The read gate is untouched." Checked against e499adaf65..1adab436aa: 8 files, and the hooks file's hunks sit only in the stamp region.
    • It names no reading at 1adab436a (docblock only) or at this merge head.
    • The base-merge note 6218017685 carries this head's readings. They are the dev's, not this record's:
      • 103 / 103 derived gates exit 0;
      • plugin-audit 880 passed;
      • dogfood 80 passed;
      • the CLI door 147 / 147;
      • real engine member 2,303 of 2,303 and administrator total 2,605 of 2,605; on the stack, 2,050 of 2,050.
    • Its account of the merge (one conflict, cli.mdx, both sections kept, main's first) agrees with ① above.
    • For the seat, one optional line in the Evidence section citing 6218017685.
  • The round's own flags.
    • The dev's "③ accepted as narrowed": the wording landed at 1adab436a, and the conditional where stays off.
    • The page-read updated_at: unchanged, see ① (d).
    • The suggested body texts: adopted in substance by the seat's edits.
  • Q1 (the parent set, A) and Q2 (no comments checklist item, A): right, unchanged from 6215049807. main's identity-object feeds change does not move Q1: comments already stored on those four objects keep their threads, and the gate must still serve them. Q2's escalation (a checklist-author sweep for a comments read-inheritance item) stays with the seat.
  • The out-of-scope finding: right, noted and not filed. WHOLE_READ_PROBE_WHY['no-object-admission']'s prose is still stale at this head, and neither the PR nor this merge window moved parent-record-read-gate.ts. Its carrier is ADR-0139 execution: the engine-internal semi-join leaf across spec, engine, drivers and consumers (E0–E7 coordination) #22788.
  • Deviations 1–10 of the first report, and the earlier rounds' process notes: accepted, as before.

VERDICT: PASS

At this head, the record 6216478197's FAIL reason is cured, every update door keeps the pair a parse of the row's own thread, and the texts are true of the landed rule. The merge kept the PR's hunks. The observations in ① are for any later touch and are not owed before landing.

Reviewed against GitHub at head f588d66319, after three contract records: 6215049807 FAIL, 6216478197 FAIL, and 6218239397 PASS, all at TIER_DEFAULT on the declaration face.

  • Form:
    • Draft, base main. The first line is Fixes #23857, then Clause-②: yes. No other card's number sits beside a closing keyword.
    • 23 files, +2,431 / −50. check-governed-merges.mjs --pr 23881 at this head: NOT governed (0 of 23 paths), under 3,000 lines.
    • mergeable_state: clean.
  • The FAILs, closed in two patch rounds:
    1. Round 1 (REWORK 6215101961). An update naming the pair without thread_id kept the caller's pair under preserveAudit, through the REST import's treatAsHistorical. The stamp now re-derives the pair from the stored thread for every caller. Pinned on a real engine, through the REST import, and in a unit test. A12 and A13 went red.
    2. Round 2 (REWORK 6216514913). A SYSTEM per-row update over rows on different threads wrote the last row's pair onto all of them, because the engine's divergence check compares key sets, not values. refusePairDivergence now refuses the whole write with VALIDATION_ERROR / 400 before the seal and the single updateMany (record 6218239397 traces engine.ts:16348, :16573, :16602, :17405). A same-thread batch stores its pair. Pinned on a real engine and in a unit test. A14 went red, and the unpatched path was measured writing both rows.
    • The texts state the landed rule: the hook docblock, refusePairDivergence, the object docblock, the backfill ("narrowed to the one engine call") and changeset ¶3.
  • The base merge (6218017685). One conflict, in content/docs/deployment/cli.mdx, resolved by keeping both sections. The record found 15 of the 23 files blob-identical to 1adab436a. In the other 8, the PR's lines are unchanged and the rest is main's own change.
  • Measured at this head (the dev's readings, 6218017685):
    • real engine: a member is served 2,303 of 2,303, an administrator 2,605 of 2,605;
    • dogfood: 2,050 of 2,050;
    • 103 of 103 derived gates exit 0, reconciled with --ran;
    • plugin-audit 880 passed, dogfood 80, CLI door 147.
  • CI: 41 check-runs, latest per name: 36 success, 0 failure. 5 skipped, all on the roster: Console Pin Gate, the Dogfood Regression Gate matrix, Dogfood Verify CLI, Packed-tarball smoke, Temporal Conformance. All five required contexts are success.
  • Open questions:
    • Q1 (the parent set): A. Every AUDIT_EXCLUDED_OBJECTS entry is named; the seat answered A, and the records judged it right.
    • Q2 (checklist item): A. There is no comments read-inheritance item, and none was invented. This seat dispatches no checklist-author sweep for it now.
  • Accepted deviations:
    • Write-time re-derivation instead of a conditional where on the backfill.
    • The two widened parameter types kept unexported.
    • The backfill writing back its page's updated_at, which is E6's shape.
  • Not reasons, for a later touch of comment-access-hooks.ts:
    • The hook's docblock now sits above PAIR_DIVERGENCE_CODE rather than installCommentParentPairStamp.
    • The refusal pins differ in record_id only, so the object_name half of the comparison is unpinned.
  • Out of scope: the stale WHOLE_READ_PROBE_WHY['no-object-admission'] prose goes to carrier ADR-0139 execution: the engine-internal semi-join leaf across spec, engine, drivers and consumers (E0–E7 coordination) #22788.
