analytics: a dashboard global filter whose field shares a dataset dimension's name is lowered to that dimension — the spec says it resolves against the dataset object #25814

Closed

Description

@objectstack-fleet

Filing class: ① product defect (spec ↔ runtime contradiction) — reach: a dashboard's global filter, measured once on @objectstack/* 18.1.0 by the objectstack-ai/hotclm #109 dev (PR objectstack-ai/hotclm#128 Acceptance notes). Reader: objectstack triage.

Symptom

GlobalFilterSchema.field is documented to resolve against the dataset's object, not its dimensions (#16256, closed; #16268 made the docs example stop sharing a name for the same reason). At runtime the opposite happens when the names collide.

hotclm's contract_metrics dataset (object clm_contract) had a dimension { name: 'department', field: 'department.name' }, and the legal workbench a global filter { field: 'department', type: 'lookup', optionsFrom: sys_business_unit }. Picking a department sent runtimeFilter { department: <unit id> }, which @objectstack/service-analytics 18.1.0 executeSelection lowered to WHERE department.name = <unit id> — every widget read 0. A filter key that is not a dimension name (our_entity) compiles to the raw column, as documented.

Expected

A global filter's field resolves against the dataset object's field, as the spec says, whatever the dataset's dimensions are named; or, if dimension-first is intended, the spec text and dashboard-filter-field-unknown say so and the build flags the collision.

The app renamed its dimension (department_name, like its contract_type_name), so nothing is blocked; this card is for the next author who meets it silently.

Dedupe

MCP search_issues on this repo: dashboard global filter runtimeFilter resolves through dataset dimension name instead of object field lookup id → 7 hits: #16256 and #16268 (closed — the documented rule this contradicts), #14275, #7804, #3365, #5144, #20644 (closed, different). None reports the runtime half.

Ruling-ref: triage's direction: a dashboard global filter's field resolves against the dataset object's field whatever the dimensions are named; ⛔ not dimension-first, ⛔ no spec text change, ⛔ no new lint rule
File surface: packages/services/service-analytics/** (executeSelection and every runtimeFilter key resolver), their tests, one changeset. ⛔ No packages/spec/** (stop on breach; explain in the report)
Container & model: M, mode:thread, default model and effort (set at thread open)
Clause-②: no (expected narrowing, measured by the dev: a filter key that matched a dimension name now matches the object field; narrowing if any producer relied on it, then the seat runs the contract review)
    Metadata-protocol: none
Responsibility: runtimeFilter { department: ID } lowers to department.name = ID when a dimension is named department, so every widget reads 0 (card #25814, measured on 18.1.0 by the hotclm dev)

Serial constraints cleared: no open PR names #25814; the dev re-measures open PRs on its file surface before pr_create

New dataset-filter-field-binding.ts, called once in answerDataset on the published path, binds each SHADOWED key (an object field per getObjectFieldNames that a cube member resolves to a different sql) to a request-local minted member whose sql is the field, and rewrites runtimeFilter, the dataset filter and measure filters onto it; every downstream reader resolves it by its existing rule, so admission and SQL agree by construction. Unchanged and pinned: a key that is not an object field (dimension-only keys keep today's answer), the cube door /analytics/query, a host whose probe cannot answer, the draft preview (already matched row[key]).
