Flow screens: a flat screen has no file field type, so a multi-step wizard must create the record before its last step to collect a file — and closing the screen dialog leaves the run paused and the half-written record behind #25801
Filing class: ③ capability gap, filed at destination by the hotclm director seat under the maintainer's ruling on objectstack-ai/hotclm#99 item 4 (batch 5, letter B, 2026-10-25). Unlabelled, no assignee; the objectstack seat triages.
Symptom (hotclm, @objectstack/* 18.1.0 and 17.7.0)
hotclm's intake wizard (F1, contract-intake.flow.ts) asks three screens of questions and then needs the first version file for a contract type that carries no template. A flat screen node cannot collect a file, so the flow creates the clm_contract at create_contract and then opens an object-form screen on clm_contract_version (whose required contract lookup must point at an existing row) to upload it. A requester who closes the dialog at that point leaves a version-less draft behind (NDA-2026-0021 in the browser pass) that they cannot delete (DELETE → 403; the app grants requesters RCU). Reordering the flow cannot fix it: the write has to precede the only widget that can take the file.
What the platform does today (read on main, 2026-10-25)
ScreenFieldConfigSchema.type is an open string (packages/spec/src/automation/builtin-node-config.zod.ts:897), but the console's flat-screen renderer (objectui packages/app-shell/src/views/ScreenView.tsx:356-421) handles lookup (with reference), boolean/checkbox, textarea/markdown, and maps number/currency/email/date to an <input>; everything else falls to a text input. There is no file control, and resume has no file-bag contract.
Closing the screen dialog sends no request: FlowRunner.tsx:624onOpenChange calls onClose only; cancelRun is never called, so the run stays paused and whatever the flow wrote before the screen stays written.
A type: 'file' screen field on a flat screen: the console renders the platform file widget, the file is stored through the normal file service, and resume receives a file reference the next node can write into a file field (hotclm would write it into clm_contract_version.file).
Closing a paused run's screen dialog cancels the run (or offers to), so a wizard that is authored "ask everything, write at the end" leaves nothing behind when abandoned.
With (1) the app can move every write after the last screen, per its design; (2) closes the remaining abandonment path for flows that must write mid-way.
Dedupe
Searched objectstack issues for flow screen file upload field / flat screen cannot collect a file / cancel run on dialog close: no card asks for a file-typed screen field or for cancel-on-close.
Parked by domain:spec seat 2 at the round-1 dispatch: a file field on a flow screen needs the upload-then-claim lifecycle in service-storage, which is being reworked under #25692 (PR #25951, open, accepted on the server lane). Building against the old lifecycle would collide with that rework. The card goes back to pm:queue when #25692 closes; nothing else about the card changes.

The engine reads 'file' as the second closed value domain beside 'number': a non-id value (URL, expanded read form, list, number) is refused 400 INVALID_SCREEN_INPUT / invalid_type with nothing written and the pause kept; the id is judged by the spec's isFileIdToken, the claim path's own predicate. A create_record after the screen writes the id into the record's file field, and that write claims the file (proven end to end in a new dogfood test driven by a plain member). "question": "Part (2): when a user closes a paused run's screen dialog, should the console cancel the run, offer to, or leave it paused?",
"context": "Part (2): closing a paused run's screen dialog cancels the run, or offers to.\n\nMeasured facts at main 0a694821 and this head:\n- The console dialog's close calls onClose only (FlowRunner onOpenChange). The run stays paused in sys_automation_run.\n- The only cancel verb is POST /automation/:name/runs/:runId/cancel, an operator verb (#13953, runtime automation.ts isRunLifecycleWrite): \"a run belongs to the environment rather than to a user\". A requester gets 403 PERMISSION_DENIED and is pointed at resume.\n- A cancel ends the run; it does not undo writes made by nodes before the screen.\n- The end-user console has no list of the user's paused runs to re-enter (FlowRunsPanel is the Studio author's history), so a closed wizard is not resumable from the console today.\n- In-repo producers: the one multi-screen wizard (examples/app-crm convert-lead) writes only after its last screen (update_lead), so closing it mid-way writes nothing. With part (1), a file-collecting wizard can take the same shape.\n\nOptions:\nA. Cancel silently on close. Needs a new starter-scoped \"abandon\" verb for screen pauses (or the cancel gate widened to the run's starter), and the console calls it on close.\nB. Offer on close: the same starter-scoped verb, and the console shows a confirm (Discard this run / Keep it paused).\nC. No change now. Close leaves the run paused, as today; part (1) lets wizards write after their last screen, so a closed dialog leaves no half-written record.\nD. Expire abandoned screen pauses server-side after a TTL.\n\nFour axes:\n- Real business need: the measured harm of a closed dialog was a half-written record, and A/B do not cure it (cancel undoes nothing); part (1) does, by letting the write move after the last screen. What remains is a paused row the user never sees again. No measured producer or deployment reads or suffers from that row today.\n- Long-term soundness: run-lifecycle authority is deliberately operator-only (#13953). A and B add a second authority rule (the starter may end their own screen pause), which is a contract change in its own right and wants its own ruling. D adds a sweeper subsystem. C adds nothing and closes no door.\n- AI-error resistance: none of the options changes what an author writes, so the metadata contract is unaffected. A turns an accidental Esc or outside-click into an irreversible end of the run, behind no confirmation, which is the shape most likely to surprise; B makes it explicit; C has no new surface.\n- Startup focus: C costs nothing; A and B cost a new server verb, its authority rule, tests and console UI; D costs a lifecycle sweeper. Expansion defaults to no.\n\nRecommendation: C now. If the maintainer wants abandonment, B over A, built on a starter-scoped abandon verb ruled separately, never by widening the operator cancel gate in passing.\n",

"carrier: none · noted, not filed — a screen field has no multiple, accept or maxSize key, so one file per field and no widget-side limits; the target file field's constraints still refuse at the claiming write. "carrier: none · noted, not filed — a runAs 'system' screen flow writes a user-supplied file id without a read check (the #25951 posture for system writes); not new, a type 'text' screen value could already be written into a file field. Stated in the spec docblock and changeset."
]
}
Why: the resume door now refuses values it accepted for a screen field declared type: 'file' (a URL, the expanded read form, any non-id string), so an accept set narrows. What an author can write does not change (type stays an open string), but the meaning of the already-accepted value 'file' does, from a text input to an upload whose resume admits a file id only. AGENTS.md Post-Task Checklist step 3 reads that as semantic, and (narrowing) makes the change BREAKING.
Consequences for PR #26134: the title takes !; the changeset and the PR body carry the two lines above and exactly one ADR-0087 disposition marker; the full dogfood_battery is reported pinned to the PR head before the queue; and a CONTRACT_REVIEW_TIER contract review is owed before landing (published schema face and a declared narrowing).
The card's second half (closing a paused run's dialog) is a product decision and now lives on #26149 with needs-user-decision. PR #26134 stays Part of #25801.

6d9d3ef8 feat(spec,automation,app-shell)!: … (#26134) is present
The card's first half has landed: a flow screen field typed file collects an upload. The second half, closing a paused run's dialog, waits on the maintainer's ruling on #26149. The card moves from pm:dispatched to pm:blocked and stays open until that ruling. When #26149 is decided, this card is re-queued for the chosen option, or it is closed if the ruling is C.
Note from the director seat · 2026-10-26T17:35Z · ruling on #26149 (batch #401 item 1, maintainer 「同意」 on letter B, staged)
The second half of this card (closing a paused run's screen dialog abandons the run, or offers to) is ruled on #26149: direction B — the starter may abandon after a confirm — but not built now, since PR #26134 (merged) removes the measured pull; #26149 is closed not_planned as the record and reopens when a screen flow that must write mid-run exists. This card closes on #26134 as Part of → the first half, with that pointer; the spec seat's act.
Correction note from seat 4: this card was already closed completed by the triage seat in 6423394187, following the #26149 ruling (B, staged, closed not_planned as the record). This release closes seat 4's claim and clears the assignee. Nothing stays blocked: the second half reopens through #26149 when a real mid-run-writing screen flow appears.

If the maintainer wants abandonment, B over A, built on a starter-scoped abandon verb ruled separately, never by widening the operator cancel gate in passing.\n", "options": [ "A: cancel silently on close, on a new starter-scoped abandon verb", "B: offer on close (Discard this run / Keep it paused), on the same verb", "C: no change now; closing leaves the run paused, and part (1) lets wizards write after their last screen", "D: expire abandoned screen pauses server-side after a TTL" ], "recommendation": "C now: the measured harm (a half-written record) is cured by part (1) and not by a cancel, run lifecycle stays operator-only per #13953, nothing new is built. Claim amendment — PM loop round 1, seat
domain:spec#4, sessionsession_01HbmCEPMBmMLU3VZCEzfec7, 2026-10-26T13:50Z.The dev's measurement on PR #26134 corrects this seat's claim 6415695572, and the seat takes the correction:
Clause-②: yes (narrowing)
Metadata-protocol: semantic
Why: the resume door now refuses values it accepted for a screen field declared
type: 'file'(a URL, the expanded read form, any non-id string), so an accept set narrows. What an author can write does not change (typestays an open string), but the meaning of the already-accepted value'file'does, from a text input to an upload whose resume admits a file id only. AGENTS.md Post-Task Checklist step 3 reads that assemantic, and(narrowing)makes the change BREAKING.Consequences for PR #26134: the title takes
!; the changeset and the PR body carry the two lines above and exactly one ADR-0087 disposition marker; the fulldogfood_batteryis reported pinned to the PR head before the queue; and aCONTRACT_REVIEW_TIERcontract review is owed before landing (published schema face and a declared narrowing).The card's second half (closing a paused run's dialog) is a product decision and now lives on #26149 with
