There doesn't appear to be much in the way of reference to this adapter product at all. I also question whether there is any actual reason to bind it with HPBE to begin -- what does it actually have to do with the HBPE? Just use the same API as talk/spreed and implement a client in something like Asterisk. Then you set up your dial-in with Asterisk, and it makes its connections to spreed.
Hmm... looks like asterisk already supports webrtc. This objective might be doable just by plugging together things that already exist.

Have you checked SIP Trip Phone ? Indeed, it's separate from Talk, but it adds to Nextcloud the useful functionality of making/receiving phone calls to/from real phone numbers. It uses Asterisk as a back-end.
That is completely and utterly useless. All that is, is a generic web sip client embedded in a nextcloud plugin. It would be just as effective as a standalone website and does absolutely nothing towards the goal of integrating SIP calls into Talk.
The goal here is PSTN integration with TALK. Not just a dumb SIP client.

Hey folks! I've put together a lightweight SIP gateway implementation for Talk. Currently, it only handles outgoing calls from a conference, as we haven't needed incoming calls yet (though PRs are more than welcome!).
We're actively using it in our own setup and it fully covers our main needs. There are a few minor quirks - like a "ghost" guest user lingering after a call - but that seems to be an upstream issue with Talk rather than the gateway (the virtual session itself closes fine).

@Fuseteam Yeah, exactly like that! When you're in a Talk conference, there's a tab in the sidebar where you can just type in a mobile number to call. The bridge adds a "guest" user, and when the person actually picks up, a second "guest" joins in. Honestly, I have no idea why it spawns two of them — seems like some internal Nextcloud Talk behavior. Once the call drops, one guest leaves immediately, while the other hangs around as a "ghost" for a bit before finally timing out.
(I'll try to add an English README soon, btw!)
@RTechSn Thanks man! Adding incoming calls is theoretically totally doable, but it requires getting into Asterisk ARI. I'm not exactly an Asterisk guru, and since we only needed outgoing calls for our setup, I didn't dig into it. I might tackle it if I ever actually need it, but right now it's not on my radar. PRs are always welcome though if someone wants to give it a shot!
16. @Shandeika incoming would be nice yeah
outgoing calls without needing to be in a conference would also be interesting, would allow talk to act as a sip client :D
Well, yes, but it’s not a full‑fledged SIP client :) There’s still no keyboard for forwarding, etc., and I haven’t figured out how to make more than one active call — at least not in the current implementation.
So far, I don’t have any plans or specific dates for updates; the current functionality suits us completely. But I’ve noted down the wishes — I hope I’ll get around to it someday.

You need the high performance backend of our partner Struktur AG and their adapter from SIP to the HPB.
Maybe we can clarify this on the settings a bit and disable the inputs until a HPB is configured
AlexanderProd commentedon Apr 20, 2021
Is it possible to use SIP with a self hosted HPB?
nickvergessen commentedon Apr 20, 2021
self-hosted or not doesn't matter.
AlexanderProd commentedon Apr 20, 2021
good to know, is the SIP to HPB adapter open source too?

If you want to take it for a spin or contribute, everything is available in the repo, including a pre-built container: https://gitlab.shandy.dev/shandy-development/nc-talk-sip-bridge

@Shandeika what do you "outgoing calls from a conference"? like being in a group call on talk and calling to the outside via sip?
also do you have a page in english?
RTechSn commentedon Sep 28, 2026
I will definitely check this out.
Also incoming calls handling would be great, it this possible?
