#825 has merged, and main is merged in (6ae7c04), so the diff shows only this PR. The validator added two fixes on top (763d4c3, e30eee6); see "Validator fixes" below.

Settings PR 5 of the Mac-parity Settings rework (SPEC §1.2, §2 Windows-only items, §3.4 #5, §4 PR 5). It brings the provider detail pane to the macOS 0.70.0 layout and moves per-provider quota warnings into it.

Behaviour

Provider detail pane, in macOS order. The pane is grouped boxes like the other Settings panes, in this order:

  • header;
  • Usage;
  • Visible usage items;
  • Error;
  • Menu and floating bar metric;
  • Connection;
  • Token accounts;
  • Credential Storage;
  • fields;
  • accounts;
  • Accent color;
  • Quota warnings;
  • Options.

Groups with nothing to show are left out.

  • Header: provider icon, name, "source • Updated …" subtitle, borderless Refresh, and an Enabled switch. The switch writes enabled_providers in catalog order, sharing the sidebar's helper. The info rows (Source, Updated, Account, Plan) follow. Version and Status are not shown, because Windows has no data for them.
  • Usage: each window is drawn with the tray card's metric row, as on macOS: "Session 58% left" with the reset on the right, the provider accent fill, the quota-warning markers of that window, and the pace as the meta line under the bar. Rows follow Show usage as used (off by default, so "% left"); the separate Pace section is folded in and removed. The card extras land here, and the QuickActions links (Switch account, Usage dashboard, Status page, Buy credits) become a link row at the end of Usage.
  • Error: the group appears only when the last fetch recorded an error. It shows "Last fetch failed:", a privacy-safe preview, and Show details / Hide details with the full text in the body font. Emails are masked under Hide Personal Info.
  • Connection holds the usage source and cookie source pickers (the cookie source keeps the explicit browser choice), region, and the gateway fields. The manual cookie and API key fields move into the fields group (SPEC §1.2). Credential Storage gets its own group after Token accounts.
  • Accent color: a titled group with the hex field, the color well, and "Use default", which is shown only while an override is saved.
  • Options:
    • Codex: Local session cost estimates, Historical tracking, OpenAI web extras, External Codex OAuth sources, and OpenAI web battery saver (shown only while web extras is on).
    • Claude: Show workspace spend, Allow reading Claude Code's credentials, Avoid Keychain prompts, and Read accounts from claude-swap.
    • AutoResume sits in Options for providers that support it.
    • The claude-swap executable path field appears in the fields group only while claude-swap is on.
    • "Avoid Keychain prompts" moved out of Advanced. It is locked while Advanced > "Disable all Credential Manager access" is on.

Quota warnings per provider window (Session, Weekly), each set to Global, Custom or Off.

  • Global shows the inherited values ("Inherited: Warning 70% used, Critical 90% used").
  • Custom edits Warning and Critical as % used, clamped to 0-100. It starts from the global values.
  • Off silences that window's threshold toasts and hides its card markers. It keeps any saved custom values.
  • The group is dimmed and locked while both notifications and markers are off.
  • These settings drive the Settings Usage markers, the tray flyout card markers, the float bar pill tone and the threshold toasts. They apply live.
  • Each surface maps the shown window to a quota warning window by lane: primary uses Session, secondary and tertiary use Weekly. The float bar pill follows the lane of its selected metric, like cards and toasts, rather than the window length. So Amp's 30-day primary follows Session. A window outside the lanes keeps the global thresholds.
  • Off does not stop threshold hooks. Hooks still fire at the window's thresholds, as on macOS, where quota hooks are independent of the notification preferences.
  • The old per-provider threshold overrides in Settings > General are removed.

Storage and migration #5

  • Quota warnings are stored as provider_configs.<id>.quota_warnings.{session,weekly} = {enabled?, high?, critical?}. Global is all None and is not serialized.
  • On read (From<RawSettings>), legacy provider_usage_thresholds are folded in per field: the window key (codex:session) wins over the provider key (codex). Out-of-range values are normalized.
  • The desktop shell saves once at startup, so the file keeps only the new key. A failed save retries on the next launch.
  • notifications.rs resolves thresholds from quota_warnings.
  • The Codex options are persisted in provider_configs.codex and exposed on the bridge (providerQuotaWarnings, codex* fields).

Defaults

  • Every quota-warning window is Global for new and existing installs, unless a legacy override migrates to Custom.
  • Thresholds are shown as % used (Q1).
  • Usage rows show % left (Show usage as used is off by default, SPEC 1.2), so a threshold marker sits at 100 minus its % used value.
  • Codex OpenAI web extras is on (Q10(c)). The other Codex and Claude options are off.
  • Local session cost estimates, Historical tracking and the battery saver are saved but not read on Windows yet; each says "Not used on Windows yet". Avoid Keychain prompts says "Not enforced on Windows yet".
  • Settings stays dark under theme auto. Windows-only extras stay out of the card. There are no submenus. Mac brand colors apply, and Vercel stays #737373. The warning markers use the Windows thresholds.

Commands run (head e30eee6)

Every check below ran again at e30eee6 (after the merge of main and the validator fixes).

  • cargo fmt --all --check: clean.
  • cargo clippy --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml --all-targets -- -D warnings: clean.
  • cargo test --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml: 4051 passed, 1 ignored, plus 1 doc test.
  • cargo clippy --manifest-path apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/Cargo.toml --all-targets -- -D warnings: clean.
  • cargo test --manifest-path apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/Cargo.toml: 663 passed.
  • In apps/desktop-tauri:
    • pnpm install --frozen-lockfile: ok.
    • tsc --noEmit: clean.
    • pnpm run lint: exit 0, with 7 warnings, all already on the base (unused imports in tests and FloatBar.tsx, a useless escape, and the unused copilotSeatCreditEntitlement prop). This PR removes 2 pre-existing warnings (UsageSection's unused ProviderDisplayDetail / ProviderInventoryItem imports).
    • pnpm test: 118 files, 1045 tests passed (the PaceSection test file is removed with the section; UsageSection gains marker, show-as-used and pace-meta cases; FloatBar gains the lane case).
    • pnpm run build: ok.
  • python ~/.claude/design/design.py check on the CSS this PR adds: 0 FAIL, 0 WARN (run at 7a009a6; no CSS changed after it).

Proof (Windows, real desktop build)

  • Build: exe from 7a009a6 plus the uncommitted proof shims.
  • Method: CODEXBAR_PROOF_MODE=settings:providers:<id>, driven with CDP plus cua-driver.
  • Isolation: each scenario gets an isolated home with synthetic seeded usage for every enabled provider (codex, claude, gemini).
  • Display: windows are parked on the secondary monitor, under theme auto. Every window reported dark (DWM and prefers-color-scheme), with no horizontal scroll.
  • Local paths: C:/wcb-tmp/mac-parity-report/settings-pr5/. The raw captures, proof/proof.json and proof/summary.txt are in proof/; the Mac-vs-Windows sheets are sheet-*.png (18 pane sheets plus sheet-cards-quota-markers.png).

Results by scenario:

  • Codex:
    • Header, info rows and Usage are shown, and the Error group is absent for a healthy fetch.
    • Usage reads "Session 58% left" and "Weekly 37% left" in the Codex accent (#49A3B0), each with Global markers at 10% and 30% (70/90 % used on a "% left" bar).
    • Options show web extras on, with the "Not used on Windows yet" lines.
    • Quota warnings: Session Custom 30/50 and Weekly Off. The snapshot and the saved provider_configs.codex.quota_warnings match.
    • Back at the top, the Settings Usage markers changed live: Session now at 50% and 70%, Weekly none.
  • Claude:
    • With claude-swap off, the fields group is empty.
    • Switching "Read accounts from claude-swap" on shows the "claude-swap executable" path field and saves provider_configs.claude.claude_swap_enabled: true.
  • Disabled provider (Gemini): the header switch is off and enabledProviders is [codex, claude]. Clicking the switch makes it [codex, claude, gemini]. Enabling starts a real fetch, which fails in the isolated home with no credentials, so the pane then shows the Gemini error group; that is expected.
  • Error (Claude, seeded sign-in failure): collapsed, it shows the title, the preview and Show details. Expanded, it shows the full diagnostic.
  • Migration:
    • Before launch: provider_usage_thresholds: {"codex:session": {"high": 30, "critical": 50}} with global 80/95.
    • After startup, the key is gone and provider_configs.codex.quota_warnings.session = {high: 30, critical: 50}.
    • The UI shows Session Custom 30/50 and Weekly Global, inheriting 80/95. The Settings Usage markers match: Session at 50% and 70%, Weekly at 5% and 20%.
  • Cards, a live patch while the flyout and float bar are open:
    • The Codex session bar went from "58%. Quota warnings: 10%, 30%" to "…50%, 70%". Markers sit at 100 minus the used threshold because cards show % left.
    • The Codex weekly and Claude weekly bars lost their markers.
    • The Claude float bar pill went from warn to ok.
    • The other bars were unchanged.
  • Pace meta line: the proof seeds synthetic window pace on the Codex snapshot (session behind by 14, weekly ahead by 12 with a 45h ETA). Settings Usage shows "14% in reserve · Lasts until reset" under Session and "12% in deficit · Runs out in 1d 21h" under Weekly, as on the Mac sheet. Claude and Gemini seeds carry no pace, so they show no meta line. Window pace and the provider-level pace share the same pace_authoritative gate in the bridge, so folding the Pace section into the rows hides nothing the section used to show. Vitest also covers it ("puts the window pace on the meta line under its bar").
  • Charts in the Codex sheets: the "Cost (30 days)" chart under Usage is the existing ChartsSection (unchanged here; already on Port Mac Usage & Spend settings pane #825's pane). It is flat at $0.00 because the proof seed has no cost history, and its tab and title repeat the same label, as before this PR.

Validator proof (exe from e30eee6 plus the uncommitted proof shims)

Local paths: C:/wcb-tmp/mac-parity-report/settings-pr5/validate/proof/ (validate-proof.json, win-*.png), tool validate/tools/validate_pr5.py. Same isolation and secondary-monitor parking as above.

  • Off survives a restart: Codex Session was set to Off with the UI radio. The saved file held provider_configs.codex.quota_warnings.session = {"enabled": false} and no legacy key. After a relaunch on the same home, Session still read Off, the Session usage row had no markers, and Weekly kept its Global markers at 10% and 30%. Every window stayed dark.
  • Hide Personal Info: a Claude sign-in error with an account email in the error text and Hide Personal Info on. The email was absent from the page HTML and text when collapsed and when expanded; the details read "p•••••••••@example.invalid".
  • Float bar lane: Amp seeded with a 95%-used 30-day primary, plus the Codex, Claude and Gemini seeds. Before the patch, the Amp pill was crit. After a live providerQuotaWarnings.amp.session.enabled = false patch, it was ok (neutral text; the border is Amp's own brand red #f34e3f), and Amp's card markers were gone. The other pills were unchanged. Both captures come from the fixed exe; "before" means before the patch. The Vitest case added in e30eee6 fails on the old code, which kept this pill crit because it chose the window by length.

Validator fixes

  • e30eee6 Pick the float bar quota warning window by card lane (with a Vitest case that fails on the old code).
  • 763d4c3 Say that Off quota warnings still fire threshold hooks (doc comment only; the code already matched macOS).

Open questions

  1. Version and Status rows: Mac shows them, but Windows has no version or status data, so they are left out.
  2. Header Refresh: it calls the existing refreshProviders, which refreshes every provider, not just this one.
  3. Saved-but-inert options: three Codex options are saved but not read on Windows yet (local cost estimates, historical tracking, battery saver). Should they stay visible?
  4. Preferences export: the portable preferences export no longer carries per-provider thresholds. provider_configs is not exported because it holds secrets. Importing a file with the legacy provider_usage_thresholds still migrates it, with two limits: imported values fill only windows that are Global (a Custom or Off window keeps its setting), and "provider_usage_thresholds": null no longer clears anything. Off cannot be expressed in the legacy format. Should quota warnings get their own exported key?
  5. Migrated windows: a migrated window is saved without enabled. It reads as Custom everywhere because missing enabled means on (Rust test custom_quota_warning_threshold_decides_when_a_toast_fires, Vitest "resolves Custom quota warnings per window and field", and the migration proof above). Should migration write enabled: true explicitly anyway? The validator found it unnecessary.
  6. Visible usage items: the group is hidden while the provider has no usage rows, for example after a fetch error.
  7. Connection pickers: they stay segmented controls. Mac uses pop-up menus.
  8. Error details: they show the account email when Hide Personal Info is off, matching the existing diagnostic text.
  9. Locale keys: some are now unused (ClaudeSwapEnableHelp, CredsOpenAiHistoryHelp, TrayDisplayTitle, the DetailPace* keys of the removed Pace section, possibly QuickActions). They are kept for a cleanup pass.
  10. Pre-existing, not changed here:
    • fireworks has no CredentialsDispatcher entry.
    • The copilotSeatCreditEntitlement prop is unused.
    • The saved enabled_providers order varies between saves.
    • Saving writes the default alibabatokenplan.api_region.
  11. Usage row separators: macOS draws a divider between usage rows; Windows stacks them 12px apart, like the tray card.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Configure quota warnings independently for each provider’s session and weekly usage, using global defaults, custom thresholds, or Off. Warning markers and notifications follow these settings.
    • Manage provider-specific usage visibility, connection and account details, accent colors, and available options in a reorganized provider settings view.
    • Configure additional Codex options, including local cost estimates, historical tracking, web extras, external OAuth sources, and battery saver.
    • View clearer provider-source hints and expand or copy diagnostic details, with personal information masking available.
    • Set a Claude Swap executable path in provider settings.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Existing provider quota settings are migrated to the new per-provider warning controls. Provider errors are redacted before display.

Migration #5 folds legacy provider_usage_thresholds (window key, then
provider key, per field) into provider_configs.<id>.quota_warnings and
writes only the new key. Off silences that window's threshold toasts.
The bridge exposes providerQuotaWarnings and the Codex options.
The full fetch error is a sentence, not code. Also space stacked usage rows 12px apart as on macOS.
Usage bars in the provider detail pane now follow Show usage as used (% left by default), carry the per-window quota-warning markers and the provider accent, and show the window pace as the meta line. The separate Pace section is folded in and removed (SPEC 1.2: Pace becomes the meta line).

🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

The color picker saves on every drag event.

The native color input fires onChange continuously while the user drags. Each event calls handleSave and sends a providerAccentColors patch. Each patch persists settings and broadcasts settings-changed. A single drag can produce dozens of disk writes and reloads in all windows. Update the draft on change and save on blur, or debounce the save.

Update the color input handlers in AccentColorSection to keep drag changes in
local draft state and save only when the interaction ends, such as on blur,

Stale reload result can overwrite state after the integration is disabled.

When enabled flips to false while reload() is in flight, the old effect cleanup sets mounted.current = false. The new effect then sets mounted.current = true before the old promise resolves. The stale setState(next) then runs and repopulates accounts. The component returns null, so the UI is hidden. The stale state reappears when enabled turns true again, until the next load finishes. The same race applies when executablePath changes. Use a per-effect cancel flag instead of the shared mounted ref.

Update reload in the ClaudeSwapAccountsSection component to guard results with a
per-effect cancellation flag instead of the shared mounted ref. Create the flag
in each effect, pass its current status to reload before setting state, and mark
it cancelled during cleanup so results from prior enabled or executablePath
values cannot overwrite current state.

Commit threshold values on blur or Enter.

NumberInput has no local draft. It calls onChange for each numeric input event. setThreshold forwards each value through onChange to useSettings().update, which calls updateSettings immediately. Typing 85 can therefore submit 8 before 85.

Commit the value on blur or Enter, or debounce setThreshold.

Carry the selected lane through the bridge.

ProviderUsagePresentationSnapshot::new selects a configured secondary or tertiary window, but it serializes only the selected snapshot value. selectedMetricLane reconstructs the lane by value and checks primary first. When the selected Weekly lane has the same compared values as primary, the pill uses Session settings. Session Off can therefore suppress the enabled Weekly warning tone. Return the selected lane with the selected metric and use that identity in FloatBar.
