Steps to reproduce 🕹

Link to live example:
The issue is visible on the component's demo page in the documentation: Select.
Steps:

  1. Open the demo page on a mobile device or a browser's emulated mobile view
  2. Click on the Native Select demo component

Current behavior 😯

The icon does not rotate because the MuiNativeSelect-iconOpen class is not applied to the icon when the control is opened.

Expected behavior 🤔

The icon rotates because the MuiNativeSelect-iconOpen class is applied to the icon, just like it works for the regular Select component.

Context 🔦

I was trying to implement a custom dropdown icon and overriding the MuiNativeSelect-iconOpen did not do anything despite being mentioned on the component's api documentation, leading me to notice that said class is never actually applied to the icon.

Your environment 🌎

Irrelevant considering this issue also occurs on the component's demo page.

Thanks for reporting this. The docs clearly don't match the implementation.
BTW, does it work for you on a desktop browser?

It does not work on desktop either, seems like its broken for the Native Select in general.

@michaldudak i've inspected code, it looks like NativeSelect does't have a way to know if pop up is opened or not. code has variable named open but value of this open is always undefined. Should i open a PR which removes open variable to avoid confusion?

    const { classes, variant, disabled, open } = ownerState;

The problem here is that the NativeSelectInput styles are also used by the (non-native) SelectInput. The SelectInput should have its own styles. Feel free to implement such a change.

As for the root cause of the problem, I'm not aware of the way to determine if a native select is open, so updating the docs to describe the actual behavior is the most we can do here.
