Moves SonarQube Cloud from Automatic Analysis to CI-based analysis so Go test coverage reaches the quality gate: Automatic Analysis does not import coverage (https://docs.sonarsource.com/sonarqube-cloud/analyzing-source-code/automatic-analysis, retrieved 2026-10-08).

  • sonar job: full-history checkout, go test -coverprofile, SonarSource/sonarqube-scan-action v8.3.0 (SHA-pinned). It runs only when SONAR_TOKEN is available, so fork pull requests and the period before the secret exists skip the scan instead of failing.
  • sonar-project.properties: organization, project key, test files as tests, coverage.out as the Go coverage report.
  • README: SonarQube Cloud quality-gate badge (main has been analysed; the gate passes).

Does not duplicate CodeQL, govulncheck or Scorecard: Sonar adds maintainability rules, security hotspots, duplication and coverage on new code.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Added a SonarCloud Quality Gate Status badge to the README, making the project’s quality status visible at a glance.
  • Chores
    • Added an automated code-quality check to CI. When scan credentials are configured, it runs Go tests with coverage and performs a SonarQube scan; both steps are skipped when credentials are unavailable. This provides quality and test-coverage results alongside CI checks.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in README.md: Added a SonarCloud Quality Gate Status badge linking to the project’s SonarCloud summary.
  • observed — Modified behavior in sonar-project.properties: Added SonarQube organization and project identifiers, source and test roots, Go test inclusion and exclusion patterns, and the Go coverage report path.
  • observed — Modified behavior in .github/workflows/ci.yml: Added a SonarQube job that performs a full-history checkout and Go setup. When SONAR_TOKEN is nonempty, it runs the Go test suite with coverage and executes the SonarQube scan using that token; otherwise both steps are skipped.

Code Review ✅ Approved 1 closed / 1 findings

🟡 Medium risk · Adding a credential-gated Sonar scan and coverage test changes CI behavior; scanner or test failures could fail the workflow when the token is configured.

Adds CI-based SonarQube Cloud analysis with Go test coverage reporting, addressing the limitation of Automatic Analysis which does not import coverage data. The configuration properly scopes the SONAR_TOKEN to the scan step, excludes test files from source indexing to prevent scanner failure, and gracefully skips analysis on fork PRs and before the secret is configured.

✅ 1 closed
✅ Bug: Test files indexed as both sources and tests; scanner will fail

📄 sonar-project.properties:3-6
sonar.sources=. and sonar.tests=. both cover the whole repository, but sonar.exclusions removes only dist/**. That leaves every *_test.go file matched as a main source and also, through sonar.test.inclusions, as a test. The SonarScanner stops with "File ... can't be indexed twice. Please check that inclusion/exclusion patterns produce disjoint sets for main and test files", so the sonar job fails as soon as SONAR_TOKEN is set. SonarSource's Go setup excludes test files from sources for exactly this reason. Fix: add **/*_test.go to sonar.exclusions.
