Releases 2.0.1 from main. Bumps workspace.package.version and the internal path-dep pins to 2.0.1, and adds its CHANGELOG-MOQ.md entry. The entry covers:

#25 and #27 are merged; main is merged in, so the diff is only the version bump and changelog.

Public API: none. Wire:

  • A peer that exceeds the reassembly cap is closed with INTERNAL_ERROR.
  • Raw QUIC stream codes (fix(web-transport-moq): send raw QUIC stream codes as is #27) are compatible in one direction only: 2.0.1 reads an older raw peer's mapped codes, but an older raw peer reads 2.0.1's codes as InvalidReset / InvalidStopped. HTTP/3 is unchanged. The maintainer accepted this for moq's dev line, so it stays a patch release.

Parent unchanged. cargo test --workspace --locked and cargo publish --workspace --locked --dry-run pass locally.

Publishing. After this merges, tag the merge commit v2.0.1 and push the tag; the moq-release workflow publishes the four crates on the tag.

The 1.x line gets #25 (not #27) as 1.3.3 (#21, with #26).

- [#19](https://github.com/moq-dev/noq/pull/19) report a stream reset before its WebTransport header as the reset (`WebTransportError::ReadError`), logged at debug, instead of `UnknownSession` at WARN. `UnknownSession` now means only a session ID mismatch. Also released as 1.3.3 from `release/1.3` ([#20](https://github.com/moq-dev/noq/pull/20)). Fork-only.

P2 Badge Point the 1.3.3 backport link at PR #21

The commit description identifies the 1.3.3 release as #21, but this changelog links it to #20, which is the 2.0.1 release PR. Anyone following the changelog to audit the release/1.3 backport is therefore sent to the wrong change; update both the label and URL to PR #21.

Stale: #20 is the 1.3 backport of #19 (not a release PR), so the link is right. The line now reads "Also in 1.3.3 (#20)" to match the others.

Review in Change Stack →

Navigate logical layers of code changes, visualize relationships, and explore their blast radius.

Walkthrough

The workspace version and related dependency requirements change from 2.0.0 to 2.0.1. The changelog adds a 2.0.1 entry. The assembler now compacts small chunks and rejects insertions when compaction leaves more than 1024 chunks. CRYPTO and receive-stream paths report assembler insertion failures as internal transport errors.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 19e7b

Valid contiguous stream data can now terminate a connection when reads lag behind delivery. Fix compaction before merging, and report handshake buffering exhaustion with the required CRYPTO error code.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 19e7b

The release limits resource growth from highly fragmented incoming data. Exceeding the limit closes the affected connection rather than continuing reception. No broader access or privilege change was identified, but deployment-wide exposure remains unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — Excess fragmentation in one receive stream can terminate its entire owning QUIC connection, affecting other streams multiplexed on that connection. The changed state is connection-owned, not an endpoint-global budget; attempts across separate connections remain a distinct exposure requiring admission controls.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — Small gapped frames could previously accumulate chunk bookkeeping without crossing the estimated over-allocation threshold. The new count-triggered compaction and terminal error reduce that resource-growth path within an individual assembler. This does not establish endpoint-wide denial-of-service resistance.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Packet integrity checks precede normal frame processing, but Initial CRYPTO processing occurs before handshake completion and the source explicitly recognizes Initial packet spoofability. Existing handshake-path and retry-token checks remain relevant; successful Initial packet authentication is not proof of authenticated peer identity.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Insertion failure is terminal rather than transactionally rolled back: assembler data and receive metadata may already be mutated, but success accounting is skipped and the error enters centralized connection closure. Closure resets timers and installs a close timer whose expiry moves the connection to drained. Close transmission remains restricted to a validated matching path.

Port of quinn-rs/quinn@fed0321a (quinn-rs/quinn#2694, RUSTSEC-2026-0185):
a peer sending small gapped STREAM or CRYPTO frames could make the
assembler buffer an unbounded number of chunks. After defragmenting,
more than 1024 chunks now closes the connection with INTERNAL_ERROR.

Port of quinn-rs/quinn@4b88c940 (quinn-rs/quinn#2789). The cap above
was only checked inside the over-allocation branch, so gapped frames
whose allocation matches their length, or frames handled entirely by
the unordered dedup loop, still grew the chunk count without bound.
Compact once the count passes twice the cap and reject only if
compaction cannot bring it back under.

Port of quinn-rs/quinn@c3f8b098 (quinn-rs/quinn#2814). defragment now
combines contiguous chunks smaller than buffered / MAX_CHUNKS, so a
large stream_receive_window with a slow in-order reader no longer trips
TooManyChunks on lossless data. Chunks above the minimum size are left
alone so they are not copied on every compaction.
