Quest: quest/m0/ffi-publisher-stall.md (deleted here, since it's finished).

Problem

A moq-ffi publisher used to go silent until the relay's 10 s idle timeout closed it, and then reconnect. In the harness that looked like a slow cell or a browser timeout, never like a failure.

The stall itself is fixed on main by #5088's serve budgets:

  • Repro: the Python, Go, and C++ rows with -> rust,js, the whole run pinned to one CPU (taskset), and the budget turned off by a temporary env gate in kio::coop::Budget::poll_yield. Every publisher's relay connection idled out mid-round (timed out about 11 s after it was accepted), and every -> js cell failed.
  • With the budget, the same pinned run had no mid-round idle-outs, and every cell passed.
  • CI agrees. In the Interop runs whose merge ref includes feat(net): bound the publish serve loops with a per-loop budget #5088, the FFI -> rust and -> gst cells take 0 to 3 s instead of 10 to 11 s.

What was still missing was a guard. The relay's idle-out warning named no connection, every publisher was SIGKILLed at the end of its round, and several clients exited without closing. That left the relay log full of idle-outs no matter what.

The new check's first CI run also caught a real leak in moq-tokio. When the WebSocket fallback wins the connect race, the QUIC dial carries on as an "upgrade". Once our SETUP is out, the peer holds that session open, but only the reconnect loop's task owned it. Connection::close and abort ended the live session and then aborted the task, so the upgrade was dropped later, with a bare cancel. An embedder that exits right after them (moq-c's terminal callback, gst's stop) left the relay to time that connection out. This is relay connection 27 in run 38024148717: QUIC setup completes, the client resets its probe stream 80 ms later, then nothing.

The next CI run (38027768119) caught a second leak: a gst subscriber idled out after its cell. gst's stop, and moq-c's terminal callback, returned as soon as the connection loop ended. Neither called Client::close, which is what puts each connection's close on the wire. So a process that exits right after them leaves the relay to time the connection out.

Approach

  • moq-tokio: Upgrade now reports Step::Session once our SETUP is sent, and the reconnect loop publishes that session in the connection state until it takes over or is dropped. abort ends it with the caller's error. close ends it and waits up to a second for it to close, since it has served nothing to deliver.
  • moq-gst and moq-c: gst's source and sink stop, and moq-c's dialed-session task, call Client::close after ending the connection. That's the step Client::close's docs already ask of anything about to exit.
  • Relay: connection closed now logs the connection id, matching the io_uring path. It is also logged (at info level) when a lease or shutdown ends a session cleanly, so every accepted connection pairs with its end.
  • Harness: after each publisher round, it stops the publisher the way a real one ends, then waits until the relay logs a close for every connection opened during that round (immediate when clients close cleanly; bounded at 15 s). It fails the round for every connection the relay timed out, or that is still open, and names its role (publisher or subscriber) and prints its relay lines. The negative control skips this, because its subscribers are supposed to time out. The wire-compat lanes skip it too: they swap in released relays and clients, which this tree can't hold to it.
  • Clean shutdown, so an idle-out always means a stall:
    • Stdin-fed publishers (moq-cli, Python, Go, C++) stop on stdin EOF: the harness ends ffmpeg rather than killing the client.
    • The browser driver is exec'd so it leads its group, and the harness signals only the driver. Playwright no longer closes the browser on SIGTERM (handleSIGTERM: false); the driver removes its players and waits for their transports to close before closing the browser.
    • The native JS publisher used by the wire-compat lanes closes on SIGTERM the same way.
    • The C++ client calls session->shutdown() instead of cancel(0).
    • The native JS client awaits close() and then closed.
    • gst-launch ignores SIGPIPE, so head closing the pipe stops the pipeline instead of killing it.
  • moq-c: moq_session_close now delivers its terminal callback only once the close has reached the peer: it closes via moq_tokio::Connection::close, with at most a second of draining.

Decisions

Settled with the maintainer after the first CI run:

  1. ✅ Fix moq-tokio so close() also closes, and waits on, an in-flight upgrade, in this PR, then land with the strict check.
  2. Land the clean-shutdown changes now and the strict check after a separate moq-tokio fix.
  3. Land as-is and accept the flake until the fix.

The fix is small enough to stay in this PR.

Impact

  • moq-tokio: Connection::close and Connection::abort also end a QUIC upgrade that is still waiting on the peer's SETUP. abort sends the caller's error on it. No signature change.
  • moq-c: on a dialed session, moq_session_close's terminal on_status now arrives after the close is delivered and the session's endpoint is closed, with at most about a second of drain. A session that fails to drain in that second now reports a negative terminal status instead of 0, as the docs already allow. No signature change.
  • moq-gst: moqsrc and moqsink stop only after their connection's close is sent. No property or signal change.
  • moq-relay: the connection closed log line gains id, and a clean lease or shutdown close is logged too.
  • No wire change.

Tests

  • New close_ends_an_upgrade_in_flight (moq-tokio): close mid-upgrade returns promptly and the server sees the upgrade close.
  • New abort_ends_an_upgrade_in_flight (moq-tokio). WebSocket wins, the QUIC upgrade is held at the server's admission, and then the client aborts. The server must read the abort's error on the upgrade. Without the fix it reads "no error" from the drop path. All 475 moq-tokio tests pass.
  • The browser publisher idled out in 2 of 12 local rounds until the harness stopped signaling Chromium and Playwright stopped closing the browser on SIGTERM; after that it had none in 16 rounds.
  • just test interop --all passes 6 out of 6 times locally across the last two heads: 45 cells and the refused session each run, with no idle-outs.
  • CI Interop on c080a2f2 (run 38029710697): the full matrix passes with no idle-outs. The job is red only on the TS duration-fidelity step, which quest/m1/test-flakes-2/ts-duration-fidelity.md already tracks and which failed the same way on unrelated PRs.
  • With the budget gated off and the run pinned to one CPU, the check fails each FFI round with relay connection N (publisher) idled out instead of closing, even where the -> rust cell itself passed.
  • Each client was looped alone for six rounds against a C++ publisher: Python, Go, C++, both native JS runtimes, C, moq-cli, and gst. All were clean, after the native bun client was changed to await closed.
  • just check and just test interop-negative pass.

Alternatives

  • Have clients report their own drops instead of reading the relay log. Rejected: that needs eight clients to change, and the quest decided on relay-side detection with clean shutdown.
  • Attribute idle-outs to a single cell. Cells in a round run in parallel and the relay can't tell clients apart, so a failure names the round and the connection's role.
  • Have close wait for the aborted loop task to unwind, rather than publishing the upgrade. Rejected: the drop path still sends only a bare cancel, and abort would stay asynchronous.

Follow-ups

  • The watch UI's buffering overlay covers the center play button while the player is paused and audio is stalled. This is the remaining FFI -> js failure in CI (TimeoutError: click ... buffering-spinner intercepts pointer events). It is being planned as its own m0 quest.
  • quest/m1/audio-group-duration.md already covers the 400 groups/s from 2.5 ms Opus frames that make the browser skip tone groups.
  • quest/m1/test-flakes-2/ts-duration-fidelity.md already tracks the TS duration-fidelity failure that keeps the Interop job red.
  • quest/m1/test-flakes-2/interop-close-code.md already tracks the refused session flake (Connection lost).
  • Under heavy load, gst-inspect sometimes reports the plugin as unloadable, which marks gst unavailable. It always happens when the run is pinned to one CPU. Pre-existing.

Outcome of quest/m0/ffi-publisher-stall:

  • The FFI publisher stall is fixed on main by feat(net): bound the publish serve loops with a per-loop budget #5088. A one-CPU repro with the budget turned off idles out every Go, Python, and C++ publisher mid-round. With the budget on, none do.
  • This PR adds the guard: clients close cleanly, and a round fails when any of its relay connections idles out.
  • Open decision: whether the paused-player spinner that covers the play button (the remaining FFI -> js flake) should get its own m0 quest. Recommendation: yes, in m0, since it reddens Interop on unrelated PRs.

The FFI publisher stall the quest tracked is gone on main: #5088's serve
budgets fix it. Disabling the budget and pinning the run to one CPU makes
every Go, Python, and C++ publisher idle out mid-round; with it, none do.

To keep that class of regression from passing as a slow cell, every client
now closes its session on the way out, and each round waits for the relay
to log every close, failing on any idle-out:

- The relay logs the connection id with its close reason.
- Publishers stop by ending their input (the browser on SIGTERM) instead of
  being killed.
- The C++ client shuts its session down instead of cancelling it, the
native JS client awaits its close, the browser closes its pages first,
and gst-launch ignores SIGPIPE so it stops its pipeline.
- moq-c's moq_session_close delivers its terminal callback once the close
has reached the peer, so a C app that exits on it closes cleanly.

First CI Interop run on this PR (38024148717): all 45 cells and the refused session pass, and no publisher idles out. The new check failed the go round on one subscriber connection:

  • relay connection 27 (subscriber), request.role=Some(Subscriber), so one of the Rust moq-tokio clients (moq-cli, moq-c, or gst). It finished SETUP over QUIC, never subscribed, reset its probe stream 80 ms later, and then sent nothing until the relay timed it out 10 s on.
  • Likely cause: a QUIC upgrade or race leg that the client dropped without a close, right before the process exited. On a loaded runner the WebSocket fallback can win the race, and moq_tokio::Connection::close aborts an in-flight upgrade instead of closing it, so its CONNECTION_CLOSE never goes out. I forced WebSocket to win locally (MOQ_CONNECT_WEBSOCKET_DELAY=0ms), but the completed upgrades closed cleanly; the race window is narrow. So this is unconfirmed.
  • This is the class of leak the check is meant to catch, but until the source is fixed the check will flake on CI.

Decision needed, recommendation first:

  1. Fix moq-tokio so close() also closes, and waits on, an in-flight upgrade, then land this. This is the recommended option; it's a source fix, in a stacked PR or here.
  2. Land the clean-shutdown changes and the relay id now, and land the strict check after the moq-tokio fix.
  3. Land as-is and accept the flake until then. Not recommended.

…hake

When the WebSocket fallback wins the race, the QUIC dial keeps going as an
upgrade. Once our SETUP is out, the peer holds that session open, but only
the loop task owned it: `close` and `abort` ended the live session and then
aborted the task, so the upgrade was dropped later with a bare cancel. An
embedder that exits right after them (moq-c's terminal callback, gst's stop)
left the peer to time the connection out.

The upgrade's session now sits in the connection state from our SETUP until
it takes over or is dropped, and `close` and `abort` end it with the live one.

Client::close is what puts each connection's close on the wire. moq-c's
terminal callback and gst's stop returned once the connection loop ended,
so a process exiting right after them (gst-launch reaching NULL, a C app
returning from main) could leave the relay to time the connection out.
Interop caught it on CI as a gst subscriber idling out after its cell.

Iterated as decided (option 1):

  • 55fab927 fixes moq-tokio. Connection::close and abort now end a QUIC upgrade that is still waiting on the peer's SETUP. The regression test abort_ends_an_upgrade_in_flight fails without the fix: the server reads "no error" from the drop path instead of the abort's code.
  • The next CI run showed a second leak: a gst subscriber idling out after its cell. In c080a2f2, gst's stop and moq-c's terminal callback call Client::close, so the close reaches the relay before the process exits.
  • origin/main is merged in, which brings in the quest: drop Required links to quests #5138 and #5141 finished #5177 quest fix.
  • CI Interop on c080a2f2: the full matrix passes with no idle-outs. The job is red only on the TS duration-fidelity step, which quest/m1/test-flakes-2/ts-duration-fidelity.md tracks.

Decisions confirmed with the maintainer before merge:

  • Keep the moqsink fix. gst's moqsink (and moqsrc) call Client::close in stop, so their connection's close reaches the relay before the process exits.
  • Judge Interop by its matrix. On c080a2f2 the full matrix and the refused session pass with no idle-outs. The job is red only on the TS duration-fidelity step, which quest/m1/test-flakes-2/ts-duration-fidelity.md tracks separately; it is not a merge blocker here.

Merged origin/main in (6d5c46f5), clean, no conflicts. Marking ready for review.

Automated review of 6d5c46f5 (first review)

This adds a real guard: the harness now fails a round when the relay times out any connection, and it fixes the two leaks that guard surfaced (an in-flight QUIC upgrade dropped by Connection::close/abort in moq-tokio, and gst/moq-c never calling Client::close). The approach looks sound. I didn't find anything blocking.

Non-blocking

  1. close() waits on the upgrade with no bound (rs/moq-tokio/src/connection.rs, the upgrade future in close). It does upgrade.abort(Cancel); upgrade.closed().await with no timeout. If closed() depends on the peer acknowledging, a dead peer would stall close(), and with it gst stop and moq-c's terminal callback. The PR says moq-c drains "at most a second", but I couldn't find that bound in the diff (session.rs awaits reconnect.clone().close() and then client.close() directly). Please either point to where the 1 s cap lives or wrap these awaits in a timeout.
  2. Only abort is tested. abort_ends_an_upgrade_in_flight covers the abort path. The close path (abort with Cancel and then await closed) and the upgrading(None) clears on takeover or supersede have no test. A sibling test that calls close() mid-upgrade and asserts it returns promptly would cover item 1 too.
  3. Role detection depends on log text (interop.sh check_idle_outs). The role is publisher only when conn{id=N ...::subscriber: subscribe started appears. If that span or message is renamed, every idle-out gets reported as subscriber. The same goes for the connection closed id=N err= awk pattern, which assumes id comes before err (true for the tracing field order here, but the io_uring path should be checked to make sure it matches). It's only a mislabel or a missed parse, but a missed parse turns into open, which then fails as an idle-out after 15 s. A comment tying the patterns to relay.rs would help.
  4. stop_publisher only stops ffmpeg for non-js publishers. A stdin-fed client that doesn't exit on EOF gets SIGKILLed by harness_reap after 10 s, and the round then fails as an idle-out. That's intended, but the failure message will say "idled out", not "didn't exit on EOF". Logging when the 10 s deadline is hit would make that case easy to diagnose.
  5. CI is still pending on this head. The PR notes the Interop job is red on the tracked TS duration-fidelity flake, so check that the new idle-out check itself passes there.

Verdict: MERGE (once CI is green)

Walkthrough

The QUIC upgrade process now exposes its session before peer SETUP completes, and connection shutdown closes tracked upgrade sessions. C API and GStreamer sessions close their client endpoints after connection shutdown. Interop clients await shutdown, and the harness checks relay logs for open or timed-out connections after stopping each publisher. Relay warnings include connection IDs. Quest documentation was also updated.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 6d5c4

Client shutdown may wait longer than its documented bound during an in-flight upgrade. This is a bounded merge risk worth owner follow-up.

P1 Badge Close the js-native publisher before reaping it

When test/interop/compat.sh runs its js-publish cells with --publishers js-native, this falls through the default branch and signals only ffmpeg, but that publisher is a Bun process with no ffmpeg child and is blocked on await connection.closed. It therefore survives until the 10-second deadline and is SIGKILLed; the relay subsequently times out its QUIC connection, so check_idle_outs fails every otherwise-successful compatibility cell. Add a graceful js-native shutdown path that closes its connection instead of relying on the deadline and kill.

Agreed, fixed in 0b7b31a. The js-native publisher is now exec'd so it leads its group, stop_publisher sends it SIGTERM like the browser driver, and compat/client.ts closes its connection on SIGTERM. Separately, the idle-out check now covers only runs built from this checkout: the wire-compat lanes swap in released relays (whose close log names no connection) and released clients, which this tree can't hold to it.

Replies to the automated review of 6d5c46f5:

  1. Unbounded upgrade wait. Fixed: it's now bounded by one second. moq-c's "at most a second" was the live session's drain inside moq_tokio::Connection::close, which is documented as bounded by one second. Client::close after it only waits for the close packets to go out.
  2. Only abort tested. Added close_ends_an_upgrade_in_flight. The takeover path, which clears the upgrade in connected, is exercised by the existing websocket_upgrades_to_quic.
  3. Log-text coupling. Added a comment naming rs/moq-relay/src/relay.rs as the source of both patterns. The io_uring path logs id before err too.
  4. Silent kill after EOF. stop_publisher now warns when a publisher is still running 10 s after it was stopped.
  5. CI. Pending on 0b7b31ae.

Also from Codex: the js-native publisher used by the wire-compat lanes now closes on SIGTERM, and the idle-out check runs only when the relay and clients come from this checkout.

Grok review of 0b7b31ae (full review, no earlier Grok review on this PR)

Solid change: the moq-tokio upgrade fix is well scoped, both new tests pin the behavior that matters (the abort's error code reaching the server, and close not hanging on the upgrade), and the harness check turns a silent reconnect into a hard failure. No blocking issues; a few things that could make the check flaky or misleading.

Non-blocking

  1. The harness treats "no connection closed line" as "still open", but the relay doesn't always log one. relay.rs:389 only warns when conn.run() returns Err. In rs/moq-relay/src/connection.rs, the lease.ended() branch (line ~224) and the shutdown.started() branch (line ~233) return Ok(()), so those connections never log a close. check_idle_outs would then wait the full 15 s and fail the round with idled out instead of closing (open). That can't happen in today's interop (no leases, no mid-round shutdown), but it ties the check to an incidental detail. Logging at info on Ok too (for example connection closed id=.. err=none) would make the check robust and keep the awk pattern simple.

  2. The browser publisher may lose the race against Playwright's own SIGTERM handling. stop_publisher sends kill -TERM -- -$pid to the whole group. The driver is now the group leader, but Chromium is launched in that same group (harness.ts:114, chromium.launch with Playwright's default handleSIGTERM: true). So Chromium itself gets SIGTERM, and Playwright also closes the browser on SIGTERM, both racing closeSessions in the driver's finally. If the browser wins, the WebTransport session ends without a close and the relay times it out. It passed 6 out of 6 locally, but this looks like a timing flake waiting to happen on a loaded runner. Signalling only the driver (kill -TERM "$pid") and/or passing handleSIGTERM: false to the publisher's launch would remove the race.

  3. A connection still open after the 15 s deadline can be reported twice. It fails round N as (open). Its later connection closed id=N err=timed out line then lands in round N+1's log window, and relay_connections adds ids from close lines too (if (!(id in state)) order[++n] = id), so round N+1 also fails, blamed on the wrong publisher. One option is to only count close lines whose id also has a conn{id= line in the window.

  4. moq-c's terminal status changes on a clean close. session.rs:201: the closed.1 branch used to always produce Ok(()) (terminal 0). Now it returns Connection::close's drain error, so a session that didn't drain within a second delivers a negative terminal code. That matches the doc comment ("0 (or a negative error)"), but callers that treat any negative terminal status after their own moq_session_close as a failure will now see one. Consider either mapping drain errors on a user-requested close to 0, or calling this out in the Impact section.

  5. The upgrade's refusal path still drops the session with a bare cancel. When Stage::Setup's future errors (peer refused, or already draining), poll_upgrade calls shared.upgrading(None) and drops the Upgrade. The moq_net::Session the peer already holds open is dropped rather than aborted with an error. If dropping doesn't put a close on the wire, that's the same idle-out this PR fixes, just on a rarer path. Worth an explicit session.abort(...) there, or a test showing the drop path closes it.

  6. CI hasn't run on this head. Only Auto-merge (skipped) is listed for 0b7b31ae. The body's CI evidence is from c080a2f2.

Verdict: MERGE (once Interop runs on this head)

Automated review by review (OpenAI)

Reviewed commit: 0b7b31a.

No remaining actionable bugs found in the full PR diff and relevant surrounding code. The native-JS compatibility shutdown problem also identified in the independent Codex finding is addressed: stop_publisher now signals js-native, its client closes on SIGTERM, and released-client/relay lanes skip the checkout-specific log guard. The upgrade close now has a bounded wait and a dedicated regression test.

Direction: keep the strict checkout-only guard with the source-level shutdown fixes; no broader redesign appears necessary. Verify both the full interop matrix and compatibility JS-publish lanes on this head.

Limits: static GitHub review only; I did not run tests or independently verify CI success.

@codex review

Merged origin/main into 0da2d156 (only conflict was the quest/m0/README.md list). This head carries 0b7b31ae's review fixes: the bounded upgrade close, the native JS publisher's SIGTERM close, and the idle-out check skipped for prebuilt binaries.

Playwright closes the browser on SIGTERM by default, and the harness sent
the signal to the whole group, Chromium included. Either way the browser
ended before the driver removed its players, so its session went without a
close and the relay timed it out (2 of 12 browser-publisher rounds locally).
The harness now signals only the driver, and the launch leaves SIGTERM to it.

Grok follow-up review of d4426893 (previous Grok review: 0b7b31ae)

The only real PR change since the last review is 7d024132; everything else is merges from main.

Fixed: the Playwright SIGTERM race from the earlier review. launch() now passes handleSIGTERM: false (test/interop/clients/js/harness.ts:116), and stop_publisher signals only the leader instead of the whole process group (test/interop/interop.sh:557). Chromium therefore no longer gets killed before driver.ts:120 (waits on SIGTERM) can run browser.close() at driver.ts:198, so sessions close cleanly.

Non-blocking

  • kill -TERM "$pid" only works if $pid is the node process itself. If start_publisher launches through a wrapper (npx/bun/pnpm exec) that doesn't forward signals, the driver never sees SIGTERM and every JS round hits the 10 s kill fallback. It's worth confirming that the leader is node, or that the wrapper forwards signals.
  • Because Playwright's handler is off, a SIGTERM that reaches a client which doesn't install its own handler (close.ts, media.ts) now leaves Chromium orphaned until the harness reaps it. That's fine if the reaping is guaranteed, but worth a comment.
  • The earlier items about relay close logging on Ok paths, late close double counting, a negative moq-c status, and setup refusal dropping the upgrade session aren't touched by this push and are still open.
  • CI (Test, Windows, macOS, Quest) is still pending on this head.

Verdict: MERGE once CI is green.

Automated review by review (OpenAI)

Reviewed commit: d442689.

No new actionable bugs found in the meaningful delta from my previous review at 0b7b31a, excluding incoming main changes. The two-part SIGTERM fix is coherent: harness.ts:116 disables Playwright's competing handler, and interop.sh:557 signals only the publisher leader so the driver's session cleanup runs before Chromium exits. I also checked the wrapper concern in the independent follow-up: both JS publisher branches use exec bun, preserving the tracked leader PID.

Direction: retain this focused shutdown fix and the strict idle-out guard. Exercise the browser-publisher round on this head to verify clean relay closes.

Limits: static GitHub review of the delta and surrounding lifecycle code; no tests run or CI success independently verified.

- The relay logs `connection closed` when a lease or shutdown ends a session
too, not only on an error, so the idle-out check never waits out a clean
  close it can't see.
- The check counts only connections opened in its round, so a straggler from
an earlier round closing late isn't blamed on this one.

Replies to the Grok reviews of 0b7b31ae and d4426893:

  1. Close only logged on Err. Fixed in 04ea2014: the relay now logs connection closed id=N at info level when a lease or shutdown ends the session (in both relay.rs and the io_uring path). The parser reads a close with no err= as ended.
  2. Playwright SIGTERM race. Fixed in 7d024132: handleSIGTERM: false, and the harness signals only the driver. Both JS publisher branches exec bun, so the tracked PID is the driver itself, and no wrapper sits in between. launch() documents that the harness reaps anything a signal leaves behind.
  3. Double-counting a straggler. Fixed: relay_connections counts only connections opened in its round's window.
  4. moq-c's terminal status after a failed drain. Kept on purpose. A close that couldn't deliver within its second is a real failure, and moq_session_close already documents "0 (or a negative error)". Reporting 0 would hide it. This is now called out in Impact.
  5. The refusal path drops the upgrade session. Declining. That leak needs the process to exit right after the drop. After a refusal the WebSocket session keeps serving, so the process is alive and the dropped session's close goes out. close/abort were the paths where an exit follows at once.

Decisions recorded for the merge (approved by the maintainer):

  • Fix moq-tokio in this PR, and land it together with the strict idle-out check.
  • Keep the moqsink close fix.
  • Judge Interop by its matrix. The TS duration-fidelity failure is tracked in quest/m1/test-flakes-2/ts-duration-fidelity.md.

Grok follow-up review of dea65325 (previous Grok review: d4426893)

The only real PR change since the last review is 04ea2014; the rest is merges from main.

Fixed: two findings from the earlier review.

  • The relay now logs connection closed on the Ok path too, in both rs/moq-relay/src/relay.rs:792 and rs/moq-relay/src/uring.rs:789. A lease or shutdown ending a session no longer looks like an idle-out, and relay_connections reports it as ended.
  • A close from an earlier round is no longer counted against the current one. interop.sh only updates ids it saw open inside the window.

Non-blocking

  • The clean close is logged at info, but the error close is at warn. If the interop relay ever runs with RUST_LOG=warn (or a target filter that drops moq_relay=info), every clean close stays open and the round fails falsely. Either confirm the harness pins info for the relay, or log both arms at the same level.
  • A connection whose conn{id=..} span line falls before FROM but closes inside the window is now dropped silently. That's intended, but nothing tests it. A small awk fixture test covering the straggler, ended, and err= cases would lock in the parser, since it depends on the exact log format.
  • CI is still pending on this head.

Verdict: MERGE (once CI is green)

Automated review by review (OpenAI)

Reviewed commit: dea6532.

No new actionable bugs found in the meaningful delta since d442689, excluding the incoming main documentation changes. The relay now logs successful supervision exits in both backends, and the parser accepts closes without err= while ignoring close-only IDs absent from the round's observed connections. These address the cases discussed in the existing follow-up; the interop relay config sets info-level logging.

Direction: keep this focused logging/parser correction. The existing suggestion for small parser fixtures covering clean close, timeout, and a prior-round close is worthwhile regression coverage.

Limits: static GitHub review of the delta and surrounding supervision/parser code; no tests run or CI success independently verified.

Merge summary for dea6532549e7c50c1f85e25a3146721385645807:

  • Changes:
    • moq-tokio: close and abort end a QUIC upgrade that is still in its handshake.
    • moq-c and moq-gst: they close their client before reporting a session stopped.
    • Relay: logs id, and logs every close.
    • Interop: stops every client cleanly, and fails a round on any idle-out. The check is skipped for the wire-compat lanes.
  • Decisions (maintainer):
    • The moq-tokio fix lands in this PR, together with the strict check.
    • Keep the moqsink fix.
    • Judge Interop by its matrix.
  • Review: OpenAI's review of this head (dea65325) found nothing actionable. The CodeRabbit and Codex findings are fixed and replied to inline. The Grok items are answered above.
  • Checks: the required Check and Test pass.
  • Interop: the full matrix passes with no idle-outs (run 38057784047). The job is red only on the media step's control: lagging latecomer negative control, which comes from test(media): open each window once playback starts, and prove late join can fail #5173. It fails the same way on unrelated PRs (for example run 38056143887), and no quest tracks it yet.
