ObjectiveMedia Wiki

ObjectiveMedia is intended to be an open source solution for providing multimedia features across all operating system and architecture platforms while using an object oriented programming model. This approach is taken with the hopes of enhancing such OO languages as Java and VB.net.

While various other media libraries are available from other providers, the hope of this project is to provide a unified calling structure and platform structure, so that the application level code looks the same and uses the same object model, regardless of the underlying platform.

Object Model

The objectiveMedia object model is broken down into two namespaces: devices and codecs.

The Devices namespace

This namespace provides classes which access system hardware for capturing and presenting media such as audio and video. The following classes are a part of this namespace.

  1. Device - serves as the superclass under which all devices should be extended.
  2. InputDevice - extends Device and serves as the superclass for all input devices.
  3. OutputDevice - extends Device and serves as the superclass for all output devices.
  4. VideoInputDevice - extends InputDevice and provides functionality for capturing frames from a video device.
  5. AudioInputDevice - extends InputDevice and provides functionality for capturing audio samples.
  6. VideoOutputDevice - extends outputdevice and provides functionality for presenting video frames.
  7. AudioOutputDevice - extends outputdevice and provides functionality for presenting audio samples.
  8. DeviceListener - an interface used to provide functionality for callback between an input device and its caller.
  9. MediaFormat - the superclass which provides base definition for all formats.
  10. VideoMediaFormat - extends MediaFormat and provides definition for video formats.
  11. AudioMediaFormat - extends MediaFormat and provides definition for audio formats.
  12. VideoPixelFormat - an enumerator that defines preset video pixel formats.
  13. Device_Errors - an enumerator that defines preset error codes for all functions within this namespace.

The Codecs namespace

This namespace provides classes used to access encoders and decoders for audio and video media. This namespace includes the following classes:

  1. Codec - the superclass under which all codecs are extended.
  2. CodecData - provides definition for the codec format.
  3. H263VideoDecoder - a h.263+ encoder.
  4. H263VideoEncoder - a h.263+ decoder
  5. VC1VideoDecoder - a vc-1 main profile (wmv9) decoder.
  6. G7231AudioEncoder - a g.723.1 audio encoder
  7. G7231AudioDecoder - a g.723.1 audio decoder
  8. CodecResult - provides a wrapper for coded data to be passed through interoperation.
