I’m not sure whether this behavior is intended or a bug.
When sorting the podcast overview by “Newest”, the list does not appear to be ordered by the podcast that contains the most recently published episode. I would expect the primary sort criterion to be the latest episode’s publication date, but I can’t determine what criterion is actually being used when “Newest” is selected.
Additionally, after selecting “Newest”, opening a podcast, and then returning to the overview, the list is reset to an A–Z sort order. The expected behavior would be that the “Newest” sort order persists until I explicitly choose a different sorting option.
Fixed in #1039 - You were right, newest wasn't really sorting by anything. The podcast list wasn't getting the dates it needed. Newest/oldest now sort by each podcast's latest episode and your sort choice sticks when you leave and come back. Most/least played was broken the same way and is fixed too. Will be released officially with the next release coming soon.
