I'm a Partner and Head of Research at Data Desk, where I use commercial and open source data to monitor the global fossil fuel industry. My day-to-day stack is Observable Notebooks 2.0 on top of DuckDB, but my first love is the Unix shell.
I'm currently working on:
- innovative approaches for remote identification and measurement of gas flaring using Sentinel-2 data;
- using vision and reasoning LLMs for automated attribution of observed methane plumes to oil and gas infrastructure operators;
- 'watching the watchers' using STAC data from hi-res satellite imagery providers.
