I tested Hibiki on **Omarchy + Hyprland** and wanted to share some feedback. #32

Description

@aryanhv

Overall, I'm really impressed with it. The visualizer looks clean, lightweight, and much more polished than the alternatives I tried. The fact that it is Wayland-native and uses GTK4 Layer Shell makes it feel like a very good fit for an Omarchy setup.

Environment

  • Omarchy
  • Hyprland 0.56.2
  • Wayland
  • Arch Linux
  • Hibiki v0.1.5
  • Built from source with Cargo

Hyprland / Omarchy testing

I initially built Hibiki from source and it detected Hyprland correctly:

Detected compositor: Hyprland

The window was also correctly recognized by Hyprland as a native Wayland client:

class: dev.linuxmobile.hibiki
xwayland: 0

The only issue I encountered was keyboard input initially not being detected. Hibiki uses evdev directly, and my user wasn't initially a member of the input group.

After adding the user to the input group and restarting the session/rebooting, everything worked correctly.

Once that was resolved, key visualization worked very well on Omarchy/Hyprland, including combinations such as modifier + key.( I also using multiple monitor setup and key layout showed up always on my active monitor, thumbs up for that)

One small observation: modifier keys pressed by themselves (Ctrl, Shift, Super, etc.) don't appear as standalone entries, while they correctly appear when combined with another key. I'm not sure whether this is intentional behavior, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

I also noticed that the Super key currently uses Hibiki's custom logo/ghost icon. I experimented with customizing it locally using Omarchy's own icon font, since Omarchy provides its logo as a font glyph. This worked as a local customization and could potentially be an interesting option for Omarchy users.

I'd be happy to help

I'm using Omarchy/Hyprland as my daily Wayland environment, so I'd be happy to continue testing Hibiki on Hyprland and report issues or compatibility problems.

If there are specific Hyprland behaviors, compositor APIs, layer-shell issues, or edge cases you'd like tested, feel free to point me at them. I'd also be happy to help verify changes against the current Omarchy environment.

Really nice project overall. I'm glad I found it, and I'd be happy to help make the Hyprland/Omarchy experience as solid as the Niri experience.
