Releases no longer need a hand-edited version bump and a pushed tag. The Release workflow now runs from Actions → Release → Run workflow on main, with a patch / minor / major choice. It:

  1. Computes the next version from the current one and stops if that tag already exists.
  2. Updates the version in both plugin.json files and both marketplace.json files, then checks each one.
  3. Commits chore: release vX.Y.Z to main, tags it, and pushes both atomically.
  4. Creates the GitHub release with the install header and generated notes.

The tag-push trigger is removed. The workflow now creates the tag itself, and a tag pushed with the workflow token wouldn't start another workflow anyway.

Smoke test

  1. Merge, then run Release from main with patch. A chore: release v0.2.1 commit lands on main, tag v0.2.1 exists, and release v0.2.1 lists fix: gallery crash when sorting boolean pinned flags #8 under the install header.
  2. Open the four manifests on main. Each says 0.2.1.
  3. Run Release from any branch other than main. The job is skipped.
