What this is

One Shift — the two-voice account (your half + Otto's half) of the 2026-07-19→20 overnight shift, staged for klappy.dev's writings/.

The decision

Word-by-word review of BOTH halves — half of this is your authorial voice and all of it is your site. Edit freely on this branch; nothing merges without your explicit word. status: draft in frontmatter — flip to ready when you rule.

What the prep pass did

  • Public-voice pass (Public-voice pass: cockpit vocabulary stays in the cockpit #304): cockpit vocabulary translated — no Move 4 / G5 / canon / seat-flight jargon; kept the timestamps, the six-word ruling, the paired trial (attempts 1–2 lost 100%, attempt 3 lost 0% in the identical crash), and the failures beside the wins.
  • Prominent authorship (Visible amendment: make model authorship prominent in the essay body #303): authorship block up top; halves separated and named; closing line states your word-by-word review — accurate only after you've actually done it.
  • Month-of-silence opening wired into your half as the lede.
  • Frontmatter follows the writings/ convention (E0011 per your epoch framing — amend if wrong).

Honest flags for your read

  • Your half contains claims only you can stand behind (the old cost in evenings, the catastrophe cadence, the BT decade) — I kept them qualitative; sharpen or cut.
  • Otto's half: check that I haven't made myself sound better than the record supports.

Reversibility

Doc-only, draft-status, unmerged. Deleting the branch undoes everything.

Note

Low Risk
Documentation-only addition under writings/; no application, auth, or infrastructure code changes.

Overview
Adds a new public writings/one-shift.md article — a two-voice account of one overnight human–AI shift (Klappy in Part I, Otto in Part II), with an upfront authorship block and discovery frontmatter (slug, hook, description, tags, epoch E0011, date 2026-07-20).

The piece is framed for a general audience (no internal jargon): month of silence as building governance machinery, the "chartered" overnight loop, a near-miss on a large deletion caught by reading code, overnight worker failures beside wins, and lessons merged by Monday morning. Frontmatter marks it status: ready for publication on klappy.dev.

…word review

Public-voice pass per #304 (cockpit vocabulary translated); model authorship
prominent per #303 (authorship block + separated, named halves). status: draft.
Captain-authorial-voice: merges only on his review of the exact text.

Canon Quality — P0010 Retrieval-Readiness ⚠️

Soft report for klappy://canon/constraints/retrieval-disclosure-contract. 708 files scanned. Never blocks — informational until the corpus is ready to enforce.

  • Blocking-class findings: 15 (structural fields the contract would filter on)
  • Warnings: 0 (kind resolves to unknown)
  • Informational: 13 (exempt templates/archive/drafts)

Kind distribution: {'essays': 53, 'canon': 244, 'apocrypha': 38, 'docs': 307, 'journals': 60, 'unknown': 6}
Kind source: {'path': 573, 'frontmatter': 129, 'none': 6} (frontmatter-primary, path-secondary)
Default-include visibility: 604 visible, 104 hidden (journals/apocrypha/unknown)

By rule: {'audience-invalid': 2, 'exposure-missing': 5, 'tier-missing': 5, 'tier-invalid': 7, 'fm-missing': 3, 'kind-unresolvable': 6}

These are not schema violations (see the Frontmatter Schema job for those on writings/). They are corpus-readiness signals for the retrieval contract: invalid/missing audience, exposure, tier, and docs whose kind cannot be resolved. Fix in a corpus-cleanup PR before the contract flips to enforcing. See the retrieval-readiness-findings artifact for the full list.

Canon Quality — Homepage Surfacing ✅

51 essay(s) scanned. Soft report — never blocks; the hard field gate is the Frontmatter Schema job.

All published essays resolve to the homepage feed.

Report: scripts/surfacing-report.py · Canon: klappy://canon/constraints/frontmatter-validation-before-merge

klappy added 6 commits July 20, 2026 16:07
Verbatim quotes (frustration, 99-1, the three maybes incl. 'didn't trust
Fable enough') + spoken deltas (5 months/article -> 200/month; six epochs
in two months). No family conversations quoted — solo logs only.
Provenance line added to the authorship block. Still status: draft,
pending captain word-by-word review.
…53 PM, rulings Monday morning

Author (Otto) derived day names from assumption instead of computing them from
observed dates — caught by the captain, the second incident for the
day-part-from-clock seed. Dates were always right; the weekday labels were not.
…where the loop closed

Part I gains the honest-frame paragraph; Part II gains Otto's counterpart —
the shift stands on sessions he will never remember, which is the thesis.
…s question from friends and family, answered

Money paragraph superseded per captain ruling; fleet line pending his yes.
