On generic ESP32-S3 boards with no W5500, setupETH() still claims GPIO10–15. It also logs these errors on every boot:

  • W5500 version mismatched … verify chip ID failed
  • SPI Ethernet driver install failed: 266

This adds an "Ethernet module (W5500)" checkbox to the ESP32 settings page. It defaults to enabled, and a missing key in config.json counts as enabled, so existing installs and the large board behave as before. When it's disabled, setupETH() returns early. ESP8266 code is untouched.

Tested on an ESP32-S3 N16R8 DevKitC clone, listen-only on CN-NMODE, with arduino-esp32 core 3.3.12:

  • Upgrading with an existing config.json that has no ethernet key: the setting shows enabled and the probe runs as before.
  • Unticked and saved: after reboot it logs "Ethernet disabled in settings, skipping W5500 init" and no W5500 errors.
  • The setting survives a power cycle.
