in_tail: flush pending multiline records on shutdown - #12643
Flush pending multiline-core data in in_tail from the shutdown pause hook,
while routes, filters, outputs and the stream processor are still alive.
Opt the plugin into FLB_INPUT_SHUTDOWN_FLUSH so the shutdown flush can
publish even when the input was already paused by mem_buf_limit.
Add a one-shot guard (multiline_shutdown_flushed) to avoid re-entrant or
duplicate flushes.
Add runtime and integration coverage for normal, prepaused and threaded
inputs with pending CRI P fragments.
Without this, a pending fragment is only flushed from flb_ml_stream_id_destroy_all() during in_tail_exit(), i.e. after flb_router_exit() / flb_filter_exit() / flb_output_exit() have already
released pipeline objects. On the unfixed baseline this is a use-after-free.
Related: #11338, #12352 (the emitter/filter_multiline shutdown-flush design
this change follows).
Problem
A CRI log entry can be split into several P (partial) lines followed by one F (full) line. The multiline engine keeps the fragments buffered until the F line arrives or the multiline flush timer fires (default 4s).
If Fluent Bit receives SIGTERM while a fragment is still buffered, the record
must be flushed during shutdown. Before this change in_tail_pause() did not
touch ctx->ml_ctx, so the only remaining flush happened while files were
being removed from in_tail_exit().

The same window also means that, when it does not crash, the record is
appended after routing has been torn down and is silently dropped.
Fix
in_tail_pause() now flushes the multiline context once, before teardown:
and the plugin declares .flags = FLB_INPUT_SHUTDOWN_FLUSH.
flb_ml_flush_pending_now() forces the flush even if the 4s deadline has not
expired; the callback flushes the per-file encoder, and the group buffers are
cleared so the later stream-destruction flush becomes a no-op.
Testing
Runtime (Linux, Release):
./bin/flb-rt-in_tail cri_pending_shutdown → OK
full ./bin/flb-rt-in_tail → 47/47 OK
./bin/flb-rt-filter_multiline → 12/12 OK
./bin/flb-it-multiline → 26/26 OK
Valgrind on the new test → ERROR SUMMARY: 0 errors
VALGRIND=1 VALGRIND_STRICT=1 pytest ... -k test_in_tail_cri_shutdown
→ 9 passed, every run ERROR SUMMARY: 0 errors
Without the fix, the runtime test segfaults on the baseline (stack above).

[OUTPUT]

Write two P lines without a terminating F and send SIGTERM within 4
seconds: the record is missing without the fix and emitted exactly once with
it.
Notes for reviewers
The tests load a test-only CRI-compatible multiline parser with flush_timeout 60000. Without it the engine's global 4s flush makes the
"still pending at shutdown" state racy and the test could pass even without
the fix.
Skip_Empty_Values false keeps an empty P fragment as an empty log.
The runtime test calls flb_engine_exit() and waits for the flushed record
before flb_stop(), matching the filter_multiline shutdown tests (avoids
macOS preempting the pause callback).
In threaded mode the pause callback runs on the input thread, i.e. the
multiline owner thread.

Bug Fixes
Fixed pending multiline log records being lost when the tail input shuts down with multiline parsing enabled. Buffered fragments, including CRI-style records that have not yet reached their normal flush timeout, are now flushed during shutdown so they can be delivered before the process exits.

Walkthrough
During shutdown, the tail input now flushes pending multiline data before it stops. A state field prevents repeated shutdown flushes. Runtime and integration tests cover CRI multiline records across several shutdown modes.
The tail input enables shutdown flushing. When shutdown is active and a multiline context exists, in_tail_pause marks the flush complete and flushes pending data once.
Runtime and integration tests configure CRI parsing and check pending records during shutdown. Integration coverage includes normal, prepaused, and threaded modes, and partial, empty, and complete fragments.
fluent/fluent-bit issue 12628: The change flushes pending multiline records during shutdown, addressing the reported timing of the in_tail flush.

Friendly ping after the weekend: the workflows are still action_required
because this is my first contribution, so they need a maintainer approval to
start. The branch is up to date with master (no conflicts) and the description
has the reproduction, Valgrind evidence and Linux/Windows runtime results.
@edsiper@cosmo0920 could one of you approve the workflow runs when you have a
moment? Happy to rebase/adjust anything you'd like.

The branch has been rebased onto current master (f68b7b1) with no conflicts,
so it is now up to date (ahead 3 / behind 0). The content is unchanged:
same 3 commits, +233/-2 across 7 files.
Two things are still blocking any CI signal, and both need a maintainer:
The workflow runs are stuck in action_required (first-time contributor),
so unit tests, Windows checks, compile checks, CIFuzz and the lint jobs
have never executed.
pr-integration-test.yaml gates its jobs on the ok-to-test label, so the
integration run is skipped as well.
Would one of you be able to approve the workflow runs and add ok-to-test
when convenient? That would give this PR its first real build/test result.
Everything so far (unfixed-baseline Valgrind UAF, Linux/Windows flb-rt-in_tail, integration scenarios) was run locally and is attached in
the description, not by Actions.
On docs-required: this change adds no new configuration option and does not
alter the documented user interface, so I don't think a docs update is
required - happy to be corrected.
I'm holding off on further pushes so the approval doesn't have to be repeated.
Thanks!
