Hi, I'm Sandro Loch

About Me

I'm a Platform & Infrastructure Engineer with a background in backend development, DevOps, and automation. My work focuses on designing, operating, and improving production systems that support scientific computing, public health, and AI-enabled applications.

I enjoy working across the entire software lifecycle-from backend services and databases to Linux infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and operational automation. My approach is driven by reliability, maintainability, and understanding how systems behave in production.

Over the past years, I've contributed to open-source projects involving epidemiological surveillance, scientific data platforms, AI-assisted information retrieval, and infrastructure modernization.

Open Source

I actively contribute to projects focused on scientific computing, epidemiological surveillance, and research software.

Some of the projects I've contributed to include:

  • InfoDengue - Backend development, infrastructure, deployment, database maintenance, and platform modernization for epidemiological surveillance.
  • PySUS - Tools for processing and analyzing datasets from the Brazilian public healthcare system.
  • EpiGraphHub - Infrastructure and data engineering for epidemiological data integration and visualization.
  • LiteRev / LiteRev Legal - Infrastructure, backend development, and AI-assisted literature review workflows built with Django, Elasticsearch, Docker, and Celery.
  • es-journals - Automation pipelines for retrieving and indexing scientific publications.

What I Enjoy Working On

I enjoy solving operational and architectural problems by combining software engineering, infrastructure, automation, and data engineering.

Some topics that frequently appear in my work include:

  • Production infrastructure
  • Performance optimization
  • Linux systems
  • Database design and optimization
  • Containerized applications
  • Automation pipelines
  • CI/CD
  • AI-assisted workflows
