I design enterprise-grade integrations for a living and spend the rest of my time bringing that same rigor to my homelab. Most of my open source work orbits Home Assistant, where I'm part of the maintainer group (Core member) and a code owner on a handful of integrations.
My pattern is simple: find a device or service I actually use, write a proper async Python client for it, wrap it in a well-behaved Home Assistant integration, and keep both in good shape as they grow up.
