Steps to reproduce
Run dotnet-install.sh
curl -sSL https://builds.dotnet.microsoft.com/dotnet/scripts/v1/dotnet-install.sh | bash /dev/stdin --channel
Expected behavior
Latest version 10.0.403 is downloaded
Actual behavior
Upon download, a 409 is returned for https://dotnetorigin.blob.core.windows.net/dotnet/Sdk/10.0.403/dotnet-sdk-10.0.403-linux-x64.tar.gz
Is this a regression?
Pinning the version to 10.0.402 works.
curl -sSL https://builds.dotnet.microsoft.com/dotnet/scripts/v1/dotnet-install.sh | bash /dev/stdin --version 10.0.402

🎯 Agentic Issue Triage
Triage Assessment:
@dotnet/dotnet-climedium- Install failure is clear, but no CODEOWNERS section matches the area; root cause may be release infrastructure.➡️ Summary: dotnet-install.sh fails downloading SDK 10.0.403 from the dotnetorigin blob link with HTTP 409, while 10.0.402 works. Verify the 10.0.403 release artifacts and aka.ms links are published correctly.

Triage: This was the day of the release. Was it a timing issue?
klemmchr commentedon Oct 27, 2026
It certainly was. I tried it again the next day and it was working. For some reason the script picks up a new version before it actually is publicly available in the blob storage.
Additionally, the error message I received was different than the one you would get when requesting a blob that does not exist.
https://builds.dotnet.microsoft.com/dotnet/Sdk/10.0.405/dotnet-sdk-10.0.405-linux-x64.tar.gz returns
The specified blob does not exist.https://dotnetorigin.blob.core.windows.net/dotnet/Sdk/10.0.403/dotnet-sdk-10.0.403-linux-x64.tar.gz on the other hand returned something along the lines of
The storage account is not publicly accessible, probably the error message you would get when requesting a private blob from the public internet. This is especially odd since the install script resolves the correct version by looking at the redirect header of the generic download link. I cannot say whether this happened because I specified a channel.

Transferring over to the install scripts issue. I bet it was some timing issue around the CDN and the releases.json. It should not fail on release day though as that could break any number of builds that are running at the same time as the release.
marcpopMSFT commentedon Oct 27, 2026
Per @joeloff there was an hour where the releases.json pointed to the wrong download so that may have been the issue. We'd need to double check if the install scripts pull the links from the releases.json or elsewhere.

Regarding the timing: my first record of the script failing was at
2026-10-25T17:56:19.000Zup until2026-10-25T20:02:39.000Z, after that I pinned10.0.402to fix my docker build.JoeRobich commentedon Oct 27, 2026
From the log we can see that the install script was using the aka.ms link when attempting the download.
I will look at probable causes of returning a 409 from blog storage.
