Port S1-S10 protocol scenarios onto the real-server harness, add the mutation overlay generator with per-run provenance, and add fresh-process mutation controls with C0 cleanup receipts. Prearm socket close listeners and stop the server before awaiting client close in harness cleanup.
…t-harness-repo-ci
Status note: conflicts with current mainThis PR was verified end-to-end locally against base 0497efd (all gates green: 29/0 websocket, 3/0 mutations incl. 4 mutants + 4 clean + 8 C0 receipts, typecheck/build clean — see PR description). However, upstream main has advanced ~563 commits since that base and now conflicts in 3 files:
Next step is being decided with the author: either rebase onto current main (which requires re-porting/re-validating the WebSocket scenario tests against the newer server code) or adapt the CI additions into main's existing workflow. No merge will be forced. |

The runner context is unavailable in these job-level expressions. The workflow fails validation before it can run the WebSocket suites. Set HERDR_SOCKET and SODAM_WS_RUN_ROOT in an initial step using $RUNNER_TEMP and $GITHUB_ENV.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
The duplicate/regressive ACK check cannot fail.
nextFrame and messageWaiter both wait for the next frame. The test calls emitPtyData("B"...) synchronously, so the B frame leaves the server before the server reads the two ACK frames. Both waiters then resolve on the same B frame. An invalid_ack error caused by the duplicate or regressive ACK would arrive later, and no listener sees it. So expect(duplicateAndRegressiveResult["type"]).not.toBe("error") passes even if the server rejects those ACKs.
Fix:
- Send the two ACKs.
- Send a
roleframe as a barrier. - Collect frames until
role-ackand assert that none of them is anerror. - Emit the B output after that.

The fallback cleanup does not run when no PTY exists.
The finally blocks call harness.cleanup() only when socket is set and harness.instances[0]?.killCount === 0. In these cases the condition is false and cleanup is skipped:
startSocketthrows, sosocketis undefined.- The test fails before the attach creates a PTY. Then
instances[0]is undefined, andundefined === 0is false.
When cleanup is skipped, the server keeps listening, the state directory stays, and HERDR_SOCKET is not restored. The path instructions say: "use temporary state directories" and "Verify ... last-client cleanup." Track whether clean() finished and call harness.cleanup() in every other case.

A socket-close timeout skips the rest of cleanup.
await Promise.all(closing) rejects when one socket does not close within 5 s. That rejection happens before the try/finally starts. In that case these steps never run:
instance.kill()rm(stateDir)restoreSocket()- clearing
sockets,instancesandptyWaiters
The result is that fake PTYs stay alive and the state directory stays on disk. HERDR_SOCKET keeps pointing at the missing socket for later tests in the same process. The path instructions say: "Verify ... last-client cleanup" and "Tests mutate only owned panes and use temporary state directories." Run every teardown step even if the close wait fails, then throw the error afterwards.

The controls test fails when SODAM_WS_RUN_ROOT points to a run root that already holds output.
generateAllMutants() writes to the fixed path websocketRunRoot/mutants and to evidence/mutant-manifest.json. It also refuses to overwrite either path (assertDoesNotExist). If SODAM_WS_RUN_ROOT is set to a stable directory, a second local run of this test throws manifest already exists. A rerun after a failure fails the same way. Without the variable, every process gets a fresh UUID root, so CI is not affected. Use a per-run subdirectory, for example resolve(websocketRunRoot, \controls-${randomUUID()}`)`, for the output root and the manifest. Alternatively, document that the run root must be empty.

When cleanup fails, the C0 receipt is never written, so the controls lose their failure diagnostics.
Line 95 throws cleanupError before Lines 103-104 write the evidence. Lines 96-100 also throw before the write when an expect fails. The receipt already records cleanupError and every boolean, but it reaches disk only on success. When cleanup fails in a child, runChild reads cleanup as null. The controls test then reports c0Complete === false with no receipt to explain the failure. A mutant whose marker fires also stores outcome only through this same path. If cleanup fails in that run, scenario.jsonl is never written and Line 122 of the controls test fails with no diagnostic. Write both files before the throw and before the assertions.

S4 never checks the detach, and it never sends the stale ACK on the same connection.
The detached waiter accepts role-ack. roleBarrier sent its role frame just before the detach, so detached resolves on that role-ack before the server handles the detach. The detach outcome is never checked.
The test then closes the socket and sends the stale stream_id from a new connection. That connection's client.data.output never held the old window, so the pty-ack handler cannot match the stale ID anyway. The scenario that needs coverage is detach and reattach on the same socket, where a stale window can still exist. A regression there would still pass S4.
Fix:
- Reattach on the same
socketafter the detach. - Wait for the detach result alone, or put a role barrier after the detach.
- Send the stale ACK on that same socket.
- Keep the reconnect case in S6.

In package.json, remove the duplicate test:ui entry so only one key remains,
retaining the new command as its value.

Restores the least-privilege websocket job dropped when upstream ci.yml was adopted in the merge: typecheck, build, no-service assertion, the legacy src/lib suite, test:websocket and the mutation probes on ubuntu, with failure-only artifacts. actionlint clean; action pins match upstream (checkout@v7, setup-bun@v2, bun 1.4.2).

Disable checkout credential persistence.
The workflow runs dependency and test commands after checkout. Set persist-credentials: false so PR code or installed dependencies cannot read the persisted contents: read token.

Thank you for the thorough work, @pjhsion, and for keeping it in sync with main. This project already runs its WebSocket and server behaviour through the existing unit, contract and browser lanes ( |
