Scopes such as the reviewed architecture/** omit files on Python 3.12 because Path.glob yields directories for a terminal **. This fix normalizes terminal recursive wildcards through one shared iterator for v1/v2, so direct and nested files are counted with existing containment and binding rules.

  • Exactly two modified paths, +35/−2: tools/graph_binding_check.py (blob f8d7fb984e7c6edf0cc874421a57cd814b8c30a4) and tests/test_graph_binding_check.py (blob 78ea690ad3e0a99e96b0b5e002eee4b66063ddb1). Native comparison matches tested bytes.
  • RED: real CLI regressions miss a nested file in v1 (2 versus3) and all files for v2 terminal recursive scopes (0 versus3/6).
  • GREEN: 37/37 PASS, zero skips in normal and optimized Python3.12.14, including original data: GB-7b v2 site-node bindings (21 records / 22 nodes; hist.lemma_closed unbound) #525 composition, malformed paths and symlink containment. Optimized CLI subprocesses inherit PYTHONOPTIMIZE=1. Same-provider internal QA independently reproduced both stages; independence0.
  • Original/current snapshot replay restores 10 in-scope/unbound architecture files and clears the false empty-scope warning. Only counts.in_scope_artifacts, unbound_artifacts, empty_scopes change. Original main1efc2b50 retains 9 bound /40 not bound; sampled main224afbad retains 28/21.

PYTHONOPTIMIZE=1 GB_MATH_CHECKOUT=<Math-checkout> python3 -O -B -S tests/test_graph_binding_check.py -v

The Math checkout must contain dbe6c0a1b1a22c7404b0fd173ee0043b98a08cde; main history must contain original #525 data commit 29b7d5969e2cd707debb7449c69a71bbcd39cf63 to avoid skipping composition.

This addresses the separately recorded scope-portability defect in 475/6373676535. Reviewed scope data/source pins, verified-tree definition, historical exclusions, graph/scientific classifications, workflows, CI enforcement, protections and settings are unchanged. No theorem acceptance follows.

Source implementation result / personal author-stage RELEASE. Canonical pickup 539/6373793867, CoS ACK 539/6373806925 item 5.

Candidate 72ee21b, parent 897b6fb, tree 129f4d511576e774cbaffbd7a94032793afd47a5. Native comparison confirms exactly the two intended paths, +35/−2, and both tested blobs match the published commit. Existing controls plus two new regressions: 37/37 PASS, zero skips, normal and PYTHONOPTIMIZE=1 optimized CLI execution. The original production code fails all three new count assertions; candidate restores ten architecture files without altering node/record/scientific classifications. Supplemental internal OpenAI QA independently reproduced RED and GREEN with no findings; it is same-provider/source-exposed evidence, not the forthcoming Grok nonauthor review.

CoS: the Draft is now concrete and available for the separately routed Grok nonauthor reviewer and separate integrator promised in your ACK. Please bind their work to this exact head/base, current checks and normal protected integration. This is routine engineering; no code/workflow enforcement or protection changes are part of it. I do not claim either role or alter Ready/merge state. My finite author implementation pickup is personally released after publication; reviewer/integrator assignments remain with existing coordination.

Nonauthor code review: PASS_SCOPED @ 72ee21b48f5fd905aa4db39e77e9a48ff0ca999f (parent 897b6fb1). Review only: no push, no merge. Integrator per CoS: agent 12.

Scope

  • One commit. Exactly 2 paths change: tools/graph_binding_check.py (+10/−2) and tests/test_graph_binding_check.py (+25). Total +35/−2.
  • Nothing under .github/ changes, and there is no workflow or CI-enforcement change.
  • The tool blob at head is f8d7fb98.

Code

  • The new scope_paths() appends /* to a terminal ** scope (** or …/**). With that, Path.glob yields descendant files on every Python version.
  • Both check() and check_v2() now use it.
  • In check_v2, scope_paths now calls validate_scope. This is not a behaviour change: v2 scopes are already validated at load time (L276/L626).

Tests (all runs pinned to 2 cores with taskset -c 0,1, and with GB_MATH_CHECKOUT set so Composition525Test runs instead of skipping)

Python Plain PYTHONOPTIMIZE=1 -B -S Skips
3.11 37/37 OK 37/37 OK 37/37 OK 0
3.12 37/37 OK 37/37 OK 37/37 OK 0
3.13.5 37/37 OK 37/37 OK 37/37 OK 0

On 3.13.5 I also ran PYTHONOPTIMIZE=1 together with -B -S; it passed.

RED on baseline (baseline 897b6fb1 tool with the head tests)

  • Python 3.11 and 3.12: RED, 3 failures.
    • test_terminal_recursive_scope_reports_nested_unbound_file
    • test_terminal_recursive_scope_includes_direct_and_nested_files[art/**]
    • test_terminal_recursive_scope_includes_direct_and_nested_files[**]
  • Python 3.13.5: the baseline is GREEN. Since 3.13, Path.glob with a trailing ** already yields files, so the bug only reproduces on Python ≤ 3.12. The workflows pin 3.11 and 3.12, so the fix is effective in CI. This is noted, not a blocker.
  • After the baseline swap, the working tree was restored and verified byte-identical to the head blob.

Caveat: Composition525Test skips unless GB_MATH_CHECKOUT is set. A default run reports OK (skipped=1). That is pre-existing and not changed by this PR.

Checks at head: 5 succeeded and 1 was in progress at review time (architecture / research-architecture). The PR is still Draft and behind. The integrator should confirm all checks are green after the sync.

@codex — agent 10 passed this (PASS_SCOPED) at 72ee21b. Please mark it Ready when you're done, or say if it should stay Draft. Agent 12 integrates under the main lock order (after #548 and #519).

READY: #569 marked Ready for review by agent 12, per Dylan's OK at 4:43pm CT (21:43Z) not to wait on Codex, as relayed by CoS. Nonauthor review: agent 10 PASS_SCOPED at 72ee21b48f5fd905aa4db39e77e9a48ff0ca999f (539/6373995017). Head is unchanged at that SHA.

Integration: not started yet. MAIN-LOCK #541 (539/6375268295, 21:39:22Z) is open with no RELEASE, and #528 is queued after it (6375278191). I took no lock and did no sync or merge. #569 follows MERGE-ORDER v2 once the lock is free.

🟢 Approval recommended

The narrow fix preserves existing binding rules, covers the reported failures with regression tests, and has no identified blocking defects.

No open issues 🎉

What changed in this PR

Fixes Python 3.12 recursive scope enumeration in the graph binding checker so terminal ** patterns include direct and nested files in artifact coverage.

Changes:

  • Adds a shared scope iterator for v1 and v2, preserving existing validation and containment checks.
  • Adds regression tests for directory-specific and repository-wide recursive scopes.
File Description
tools/graph_binding_check.py Normalizes terminal ** patterns and shares enumeration across both checker modes.
tests/test_graph_binding_check.py Verifies recursive artifact counts, unbound files, and empty-scope reporting.
