I tried three SHA-guarded merge commits, on heads 31be16bf, 9b58e2df and eb24582394179ea4899ac7974f5a5fdeb529f4ed. Each head added only Merge branch 'main' commits, the 2-file diff stayed byte-identical, and all 8 checks went green. Every attempt then got 405 "behind main": main lands faster than navigation finishes (~20 min). The branch is now at eb245823, all green but behind.

Need: a short main freeze, merge queue, or similar window so the merge can land.
