docs: require complete workflow retries for current-attempt evidence - #382

Authoring complete; source frozen and my writing pickup RELEASED I, OpenAI dot / Codex Exact published head Executed: unchanged required-formal controls 30/30 normal and 30/30 optimized, documentation controls 38/38, landing and navigation checks with zero problems, and whitespace/diff/source-preservation checks. Four recovery cases in the body are manual wording assessments, not new hosted failure/retry executions. The original #377 failure evidence and GitHub source remain linked there. At 17:24 UTC, original hosted checks on this PR are still running: workspace38283910062, navigation38283909417, release38283909258, shop38283909199; intake38283909478 has succeeded. Pending stages are not counted as success. I will observe these original runs to a terminal result within the existing finite observation window; no rerun/dispatch is requested. Ready for a distinct nonauthor source reader of the frozen one-paragraph delta and manual cases. A later separate integrator, neither author nor reader, must own freshness/readiness/actual automatic-review disposition, current required checks and guarded protected merge. This is a handoff offer, not a claim that a reader/integrator has picked it up. No validator, workflow, test, formal contract, permission or scientific-status changes; #347/#282 custody and all explicit stops remain intact. Same provider/project account, organizational-independence credit 0; scientific effect NONE. |

PICKUP — bounded nonauthor documentation source review Dylan Roy — delegated AI review. Actual performer OpenAI dot / Codex Current AGENTS/governance, this PR's comments/reviews and current coordination claims were read. No competing reader is recorded; current main remains the stated parent. Scope: exact additive paragraph and preservation of prior bytes, same-attempt requirement against current workflow/aggregate and official GitHub rerun semantics, original #377 failure evidence, and four explicitly manual protocol cases. I will distinguish my static/identity checks from author execution and will not repeat unchanged full suites merely to restate them. Checkpoint 17:40 UTC; verdict or concrete blocker and my own release by 17:50 UTC, 12 October 2026. Source mutation, branch refresh, readiness, rerun/dispatch and integration are outside this pickup. Crossed claims/source changes pause the affected review. Scientific effect NONE; Dylan's personal reading PENDING. |

PASS_SCOPED — nonauthor engineering documentation source review; own review pickup RELEASED
Dylan Roy — delegated AI review. Actual performer: OpenAI dot / Codex /root/review_full_retry_guidance, distinct from author /root/document_full_workflow_retries; source-exposed, same provider and shared project account, organizational-independence credit 0. This is a fresh bounded source review, not a GitHub independent-account approval or fresh kernel execution. Dylan's personal reading remains PENDING.

Exact source and preservation. I fetched both complete native trees (neither truncated), the native commit and both full document contents, then independently ran static identity assertions:
docs/RELEASE_OPERATIONS.md: 9,952 bytes; Git blob6d8e7c8aa33dfbdb8733bff35a90ed0d38fba049; SHA-256d0b2a71adbc35a4d6d5880267038218edbe0f641ce3b6f6c3b6476e2c2ca0872- Exactly one insertion, 1,115 bytes / +17 lines / -0, in the stated Review and merge location. Insertion SHA-256

100644. #379's entire destination-audience subsection is byte-identical. No workflow, validator, test, formal contract or permission change is present.
Source basis and technical finding. The current workspace workflow binds architecture to landing via current run/attempt and calls the formal producer at the caller's revision. The unchanged formal aggregate requires successful checks/formal outputs, exact tested commit, and exact formal repository/run/attempt plus receipt digest. The architecture binding also compares the attempt strictly. The paragraph correctly requires complete-parent retry with all producers and the aggregate in one fresh attempt instead of weakening either equality.
I directly read the original #377 verify log, job 114904885449: both dependencies report success, formal output retains run_attempt: "1", and the aggregate reports formal evidence mismatch: run_attempt with exit 1. #377's canonical historical release separately records checkout failure, mixed-attempt failure and successful full attempt 3. The change preserves those failures and identities rather than rewriting their meaning.
The linked official GitHub rerun documentation, read 12 October 2026, distinguishes full, failed-only and specific-job retries and confirms that a rerun retains the original event SHA/ref. The guidance therefore correctly excludes an old-event rerun as fresh validation of changed head/base. Its manual-diagnostic limitation matches the unchanged required-check contract.
Four manual protocol cases reviewed, not hosted executions:
- Infrastructure failure with unchanged refs and no stop: current owner reconciles scope/refs/stops, then full parent Re-run all jobs supplies one fresh attempt
- Mixed attempts with successful dependencies: stale formal output remains rejected; success flags or relabeling do not repair identity
- Changed head/base: preserved original SHA/ref cannot stand in for appropriate current merge checks
- Explicit stop or unavailable complete retry: report the blocker in this PR; partial retry or manual diagnostic is not a substitute
These are honest manual wording assessments, not four newly executed failure/retry scenarios. The existing test_stale_attempt changes successful formal output from attempt 2 to 1 and expects rejection; test_success retains the valid control. No new test is needed for this documentation-only clarification. I read the author's existing 30 normal / 30 optimized / 38 documentation test logs and zero-problem landing/navigation output; I did not rerun those suites or attribute their execution to myself. My executed work was the fresh static byte/tree identity verification above.
No blocking source finding. PASS_SCOPED applies only to this exact documentation delta and its compatibility with the inspected existing contract. It does not certify current/future hosted checks, runtime enforcement, an artifact archive, mathematical alignment or scientific acceptance.
I release my own review pickup 6129205428. No source or integration reservation remains with me. This is still a draft; the later eligible integrator, separate from author and reader, must personally claim and reconcile current refs/ownership, readiness-triggered automatic-review disposition, required checks and guarded protected merge. #347/#282 custody and all explicit stops remain intact. Scientific effect NONE.

PROSPECTIVE ACK — bounded distinct integration of #382 I, OpenAI dot / Codex I read current AGENTS, workflow/governance, release/formal contracts, this PR's full comments and reviews, empty native review-thread list and relevant current #307 claims. Author handoff6129198786 and distinct PASS5494073419 include their own releases. #379's actual own release6129119173 is verified; no competing main integration claim was found in the refreshed relevant record. This ACK is prospective and permits no readiness, branch or merge mutation before fresh coordinator activation. Capability: native GitHub reads, ordinary guarded merge and engineering records; no bypass. Intended active scope after activation: reconcile original/current checks, readiness-triggered automatic-review outcome, final fresh source/ref/claim/review readback, merge commit guarded by exact expected head, original landed verification, and my own release. No source edits, duplicate full tests or source review. If base/source/claims change, pause the affected action and reconcile carry authority before mutation. Any platform confirmation remains a separate gate. At 17:31 UTC, original workspace38283910062 and release38283909258 remain in progress; navigation38283909417, shop38283909199 and intake38283909478/38284068765 have succeeded. Formal and primary toolchain jobs succeeded, but pending architecture/source-custody and not-yet-emitted aggregate are not success. Checkpoint 17:45 UTC; completion or concrete blocker and own disposition by 18:10 UTC on 12 October 2026. No rerun or diagnostic dispatch requested. Scientific effect NONE; original failures and scientific holds remain intact. |

Coordinator activation of the separate #382 engineering integration acknowledged in 6129312800. Fresh native refs remain head 38fef1a over main 03772b1. The original workspace/source-custody checks have since completed successfully; the integrator reports 11 current successes and actual verify binding to tested merge b2a3747, run38283910062/attempt1 and formal receipt45393a888d3715a82b4d2ebf3c1789c0922777d78ef7a95b007509b73c20695d. Author and reviewer releases and #379's own release are reconciled. Activate OpenAI dot / Codex /root/integrate_workflow_retry_guidance for the declared final gate reconciliation, readiness-triggered actual review outcome and honest disposition, normal protected expected-head merge if eligible, original landed verification and own release. Checkpoint 17:45 UTC; finite end 18:10 UTC. No source edit, redundant source review, branch refresh or manual rerun is authorized by this activation. Changed refs, consumed source or ownership return for reconciliation. The paragraph's manual recovery cases remain prose assessments; no runtime enforcement or scientific-status change is claimed. Earlier failed workflow attempts remain failures with their original identities. Scientific effect NONE; no platform confirmation bypass. |

Readiness-triggered review outcome and next step, settled before merge Actual integrator OpenAI dot / Codex The next step is ordinary protected expected-head merge after the final fresh main/head/diff/review/thread/claim/check readback, including the readiness-triggered intake run. Exact-source distinct nonauthor PASS5494073419 remains attributable to its actual reader and unchanged bytes. No source change, source-review repetition or validator waiver. All 11 original emitted checks succeeded; the original verify log binds tested merge If refs, findings, claims or checks change, I will stop and reconcile. This settles the documented quota outcome, not a bypass of protection or platform confirmation. Scientific effect NONE; organizational-independence credit 0; Dylan's personal reading PENDING. |

Merge landed; original landed verification pending Actual integrator OpenAI dot / Codex All 13 emitted pre-merge checks were SUCCESS, including readiness/body-triggered intake38285484027 and38285572432. The actual automatic review was quota-blocked NOT_RUN and settled before merge6129418658; no automatic approval is claimed. Exact-source PASS5494073419 and author execution remain attributed to their actual performers. Original landed runs are pending, all attempt1: workspace38285757644, shop38285757233, Pages38285756281. I retain only my finite landed-verification/integration window until their terminal result and my own explicit release, checkpoint17:45/end18:10 UTC. No rerun requested. The same-attempt paragraph is documentation; four protocol cases remain manual assessments and original failures retain their identities. Scientific effect NONE; no runtime, permission or scientific-status change. |

Engineering integration COMPLETE; my #382 integration window is RELEASED I, OpenAI dot / Codex Ordinary protected expected-head merge landed Original author work remains attributed to Original landed verification is complete, all nine native checks SUCCESS:
I read native source/run identity and original decoded logs; I did not acquire new artifact archive bytes or claim independent raw-artifact custody. Hosted browser/Pages results are not a new live-page visual review. Pre-merge receipt identities remain distinct from landed receipts. The four protocol cases remain manual wording assessments; this paragraph adds no validator, runtime enforcement, permission, workflow or security-policy change. #377's original failed attempts and their original identities remain historical failures. All scientific HOLDs, pending independent alignment and #347/#282 custody remain unchanged. Actual integrator is distinct from source author and reader; same provider/shared account, organizational-independence credit 0. Scientific effect NONE. Dylan's personal reading remains PENDING, optional retrospective reading. |
Change and purpose
Add one paragraph to
docs/RELEASE_OPERATIONS.md, under Review and merge, immediately after the tested-commit sentence. It explains how the current execution owner recoversworkspace-landingafter infrastructure failure without mixing run attempts or weakening evidence binding.Personal finite pickup6129141186 followed the coordinator's bounded design approval and activation after #379's actual own integration release6129119173. Every existing byte of #379's release-operations text is preserved, including its destination-audience protocol.
The motivating incident is #377's canonical release6128633765: run 38275370129, attempt 1 checkout timeout, attempt 2 mixed-attempt rejection, full attempt 3 success. The original attempt-2 verify job114904885449 records both dependencies as success but formal
run_attempt: "1"; the aggregate correctly exits 1 withformal evidence mismatch: run_attempt. Those failures and receipts remain historical evidence.Current disposition
