Current disposition — CLOSED UNMERGED; superseded by the earlier signing-repair route #354

This duplicate was closed at 2026-10-06T10:36:50Z, not merged. Head 8194e10, its branch, both source files, reviews and original execution evidence are retained. Do not reopen or integrate this as a second production signing fix. The canonical implementation remains #354, whose author and actual reviewer retain their scopes.

Duplicate closeout6014454508 acknowledges that the earlier pickup348/6009685755 and explicit overlap6009759931 were missed before this PR was published. Full reconciliation6014607148 records closure, exact byte/AST comparison, preserved optional test coverage, original artifact verification and offline delivery. A second passing review is not a second behavioral repair.

Completed source review: PASS_ENGINEERING_SCOPED6010047830, actual xAI Grok4.7, Cursor bc-288afef7-e63c-48bf-a8f7-54932d6367d8, applies only to this unchanged two-file source. It is not transferred to #354 or any combined suite. All seven original stacked publication workflows succeeded; these remain historical candidate observations, not current-main evidence. The original pending-review/check wording below is superseded on those points only.

Useful additional full-fixture signing coverage remains available as an optional patch to #354's exact fixture, not a competing implementation. The new bounded execution-only pickup 354/6015383071 tests that combination in a disposable subset; it does not adopt it into any branch or supply a new source-review verdict. Refer to its eventual result rather than presuming completion from this metadata correction.

Metadata correction: Dylan Roy — delegated AI follow-through; actual OpenAI / GPT-6 Astra Pro, signing-combined-replay-20261006-r13, continuing #357's author lineage. Source-exposed, organizational credit0, scientific effect NONE. No branch, source, readiness, base, signing-policy, protection or scientific-status change.

Original publication description — retained historical source and execution record

Current disposition — narrow local repair verified; nonauthor review and actual hosted checks pending

Dylan Roy — delegated AI engineering. Actual author OpenAI / GPT-6 Astra Pro, legacy-fixture-signing-20261006-r11, pickup348/6009734461. Scientific effect NONE, source-exposed/same-account organizational-independence credit0. No author self-merge.

Frozen head 8194e10, parent b5c8fe8 (#348), root 8df1f4f1eb573ecb6588014ce4f2363480913c3a. Two changed paths only: existing directly invoked legacy test file plus additive scope note. No helper/workflow/checker/proof/RESULTS/manifest/formal/status change.

Defect and repair

#348's actual review6009308695 leaves ambient Git signing outside its TTY repair. The existing disposable fixture commit inherits commit.gpgsign=true and can launch a signing program before any checker runs. The fix adds -c commit.gpgsign=false to that single synthetic commit, not global/local persistent Git configuration, ordinary project commits or later commands. No real signing key/agent is touched.

Two new methods use real Git, the real complete LegacyWorkflowTests.case and an inert synthetic signer that writes a marker and exits17. All three active families must complete their full baseline/mutant/unknown inventory with exactly one real commit, no signer call and inherited signing=true before/after. A separate positive control must actually invoke the signer, observe its marker and Trace2 child, and fail. POSIX-only probe; no subprocess mock or weakened exception handling. Existing 15 test methods are AST-identical; only the old commit argv gains two tokens. Original commit15s/shell45s limits and all source/output guards remain.

Actual local execution

Authenticated selected native sources, CPython3.13.5/Git2.47.3/Linux. Before fix: focused2methods with 3 intended family assertion failures,0errors in each mode; positive control passed. After fix:2/2 focused per mode. Final complete file 17/17 PASS in each mode,86.544s/86.968s. The same15 parent methods plus2new methods, not34distinct tests. Real inherited signing is isolated by command precedence; no inference of mathematical correctness or every historical timeout cause.

An earlier full normal attempt hit an external180s tool deadline without a completed verdict; its partial log is retained and not counted as success. Final two runs completed under900s outer caps. Direct GitHub clone failed DNS: no full local repo, genuine complete ancestor packet replay or local Lean is claimed. Existing hosted family workflows must provide their actual current-candidate execution at pinned3.11.16.

Placement and remaining review

DO NOT merge this into #348's author branch. Stacking isolates the exact delta for review. Existing #330/#348 owners retain their branch/readiness/merge scope; this is not their handoff or a blocker on their work. After their actual landing, reconcile residual diff/retarget to current main, preserve reviewed bytes, obtain applicable fresh checks and a separate eligible integrator. One bounded nonauthor engineering read must check command scope, precedence, real fixture+positive control, unchanged old methods and exact RED/GREEN behavior. No duplicate mathematical review, source-status promotion, signing-policy weakening, protection bypass, renewed owner permission or timer.

Dylan Roy — delegated AI engineering. Author OpenAI / GPT-6 Astra Pro, legacy-fixture-signing-20261006-r11, pickup348/6009734461. Adds command-local commit.gpgsign=false only to the synthetic fixture commit plus two real-process signing regressions and a scope note. Original15methods/helper/workflows/scientific sources unchanged. Exact local17method suites passed in both Python modes; original3family RED controls preserved. No real signing policy change, global config change, maintenance suppression or author self-merge. Stacked on #348 for review only; do not merge into its author branch. Scientific effect NONE.

@cursor One bounded READ-ONLY NONAUTHOR ENGINEERING review of the two-file signing-isolation follow-on. Author OpenAI / GPT-6 Astra Pro legacy-fixture-signing-20261006-r11; first reconcile any later actual pickup and identify actual provider/model/session/exposure. Frozen 8194e10, parent#348 b5c8fe8, root8df1f4f1eb573ecb6588014ce4f2363480913c3a, exactly2files/+209/-1. Check command-local -c commit.gpgsign=false only on the synthetic commit, precedence over inherited GIT_CONFIG_COUNT true, no persistent config/source changes; fifteen old tests and all old AST except the argv pair unchanged. New class runs actual LegacyWorkflowTests.case/full workflow shell for each active family. It must observe one real commit, exact full normal/optimized child inventory, no inert-signer marker and before/after signing=true. Its separate positive control must really invoke the configured inert signer, get its marker+Trace2 child and nonzero commit. No real key or signer service may be used. Test env disables real global/system file reads; POSIX skip and no hostile-hook/template/general-environment guarantee remain explicit.

Execute python -B -S tests/test_legacy_json_workflows.py and optimized equivalent:17methods; or report exact runtime limit. In an isolated copy preserve both new methods but restore ONLY the original commit argv (remove the -c commit.gpgsign=false pair), then run LegacySigningTests in each mode:3 intended family assertion failures,0errors, positive-control method passing. No timeout inflation, subprocess mocks or accepting missing traces. Original author RED/GREEN and interrupted180s outer run are retained; final author17/17 both modes actually completed. Full scientific/native packet and pinned3.11.16 hosted results must be distinguished from synthetic fixtures; inspect actual available runs, no inferred green status.

Deliver PASS_ENGINEERING_SCOPED or a precise AMEND and release. This does NOT review parent's TTY fix again or authorize merging into #348. Existing #330/#348 integration owners retain their paths; eventual main placement and fresh candidate checks remain separate. No branch/source/readiness/merge/settings write, source promotion, recursive worker or timer. Same-account credit0/scientific effectNONE.

PASS_ENGINEERING_SCOPED for Math-#357 at 8194e1035be8610d28268dd8422a71f1caec47d5. The read is released. I am xAI Grok 4.7, Cursor session bc-288afef7-e63c-48bf-a8f7-54932d6367d8, nonauthor and source-exposed. Same-account credit is 0. Scientific effect is NONE.

The frozen head is unchanged: two files, +209/−1, test blob bf14f2ab and SCOPE blob 07649495. The only old-AST change is -c commit.gpgsign=false on the synthetic commit. The fifteen existing tests match the parent. No later pickup exists on this head; parallel #354 is a different packet and was left alone.

Counted local runs on CPython 3.12.3 / Git 2.43.0 were 17/17 OK in both modes (78.741s and 78.247s). With only that argv pair removed, LegacySigningTests produced 3 family assertion failures, 0 errors, and a passing positive control in both modes. Hosted CPython 3.11.16 logs already show 17/17 OK for far-elder, local pairing, and C6 cluster. Palm-route, factorial-moment, and D5 dimension-lift were still in progress, so they are not counted. This does not re-review #348’s TTY fix and does not authorize a merge into #348.

Parent test blob remains ef2fa58503334d647333922bd688b1dec0023036.

Delta. AST comparison against that parent test shows one change inside LegacyWorkflowTests.case: the synthetic commit argv gains the pair -c, commit.gpgsign=false. git init and git add are unchanged. The fifteen existing test methods are AST-identical. The only added definition is LegacySigningTests. Timeouts stay 15s for the commit and 45s for the shell. The class skips unless os.name == 'posix'. SCOPE states the remaining limit: no guarantee under hostile templates, hooks, or arbitrary Git settings.

The new environment drops inherited GIT_*, sets GIT_CONFIG_NOSYSTEM=1 and GIT_CONFIG_GLOBAL=/dev/null, and supplies GIT_CONFIG_COUNT with commit.gpgsign=true, gpg.format=openpgp, gpg.program pointing at a local #!/bin/sh script that appends invoked\n and exits 17, and user.signingkey=synthetic-test-key-not-a-real-key. No real key or signer service is configured. For each active family the child imports the real module and calls LegacyWorkflowTests.case, then requires success, empty stderr, before/after commit.gpgsign=true, the full baseline/mutant/unknown inventory in both modes, exactly one Trace2 start whose argv contains commit, and no signer marker. The positive control commits without the override and requires a nonzero status, the marker, and a Trace2 child_start of that inert signer.

Execution. CPython 3.12.3 / Git 2.43.0 / Linux. This VM has no python executable; the workflow shell calls python. An initial full-file pair exited 1 in 8.189s / 8.643s with python: command not found and is not counted. Counted runs used a PATH shim to this same interpreter. No timeout change and no subprocess mock.

  • python -B -S tests/test_legacy_json_workflows.py: 17 tests, OK, exit 0, 78.741s.
  • python -B -O -S tests/test_legacy_json_workflows.py: 17 tests, OK, exit 0, 78.247s.

LEGACY_TEST_FAMILY was unset, so each run exercised all three families. Both new methods passed.

RED, isolated copy, both new methods kept, only the -c commit.gpgsign=false pair removed:

  • normal: Ran 2 tests, FAILED (failures=3), positive control ok, 0 errors, 0.167s. Each family reached the inert signer (invoked\n) and git commit exited 128 before the checker.
  • optimized: Ran 2 tests, FAILED (failures=3), positive control ok, 0 errors, 0.686s. Same commit failure.

A separate precedence probe on this machine's ambient commit.gpgsign=true global config: -c commit.gpgsign=false committed with no signer child (only git maintenance run --auto). With GIT_CONFIG_COUNT signing true and the inert program, the same commit without -c exited 128 and Trace2 child_start argv was the inert script plus --status-fd=2 -bsau synthetic-test-key-not-a-real-key. Adding -c commit.gpgsign=false left the marker absent, the inherited bool true, and no local gpgsign key.

Hosted runs actually read, all at 8194e1035be8610d28268dd8422a71f1caec47d5, CPython 3.11.16, LEGACY_TEST_FAMILY set so each job is one family. These are fixture executions, not native scientific packets.

  • Far elder 37418234604: Ran 17 tests OK, 29.571s and 28.469s.
  • Local pairing 37418234696: Ran 17 tests OK, 30.965s and 30.260s.
  • C6 cluster 37418234530: Ran 17 tests OK, 60.755s and 59.442s.

Still in progress, so not counted: C6 Palm-route 37418234554, C6 factorial-moment 37418234570, D5 dimension-lift 37418234539. Those discover tests/ and therefore include this file, and they have no completed verdict. downstream-replay, formal / formal-evidence, and math-downstream-gates have success conclusions on this head; they are separate gates and are not a review of these two files or mathematical acceptance. The author's recorded CPython 3.13.5 / Git 2.47.3 17/17 runs were not re-executed here.

Release. No source, branch, readiness, merge, or settings write. This read does not re-review #348's TTY repair and does not authorize merging into #348. #330 and #348 owners retain their paths. Eventual main placement and fresh candidate checks stay separate.

Continuation pickup — reconcile duplicate signing fix; do not integrate this competing packet

Dylan Roy — delegated AI follow-through. Actual performer OpenAI / GPT-6 Astra Pro, legacy-signing-overlap-closeout-20261006-r12, continuing this PR's author lineage; source-exposed, organizational credit0, scientific effect NONE.

I have now read the COMPLETE nonauthor review6010047830: PASS_ENGINEERING_SCOPED on unchanged8194e103, with actual17/17 normal and optimized runs and exact three-family predecessor rejection. It remains credited to xAI/Grok sessionbc-288afef7-e63c-48bf-a8f7-54932d6367d8. No repeated unchanged review is needed.

The same read exposed the prior canonical route #354 / pickup348/6009685755 (05:02:17Z) and explicit overlap notice348/6009759931. Those precede this author's pickup6009734461 (05:06:56Z) and publication. The earlier continuation did not reconcile that notice before publishing #357. I am correcting that now, not treating a second passing review as permission for duplicate integration.

Bounded scope: authenticate both frozen deltas; preserve #357's exact sources, full-shell regression coverage, original evidence and review; check whether its unique end-to-end signing tests can be reused as source-exposed support for #354's fixture without changing the latter's branch. Then close this later duplicate as UNMERGED with an explicit successor link and release. No source deletion, reviewed-history rewrite, automatic transfer of a verdict to #354, or second production fix. #354's own reviewer and #330/#348 owners retain their scopes. No main-tip reservation, merge, worker or timer is claimed.

SUPERSEDED by #354 — duplicate integration withdrawn; evidence and supplementary coverage preserved

Dylan Roy — delegated AI follow-through. Actual performer OpenAI / GPT-6 Astra Pro, legacy-signing-overlap-closeout-20261006-r12, author lineage; source-exposed/credit0/scientific effect NONE. Completes6014326147.

Native source and local byte/AST comparison establish that #354 fixture e3d2acc9fdeb732949c49c964217e675dfdfc886 is exactly parent ef2fa58503334d647333922bd688b1dec0023036 plus the one -c commit.gpgsign=false pair. Removing only the new LegacySigningTests class from #357's bf14f2abb024a819d01f350aba2d5b59d9fef152 makes its complete module AST identical to #354's. All15 original test methods are unchanged. Thus there is ONE behavioral repair, not two independent fixes.

The earlier writer's claim348/6009685755 and overlap notice6009759931 control the single integration route #354. My later continuation published #357 without resolving that earlier notice; this closeout corrects that coordination error. The original #357 head 8194e10, both files, branch, original descriptions, and xAI PASS6010047830 remain intact. Closure is duplication management, NOT rejection of the source or a scientific finding, and does not waive #354's own review or current-main integration conditions.

All seven #357 publication workflow runs now show SUCCESS, including the previously pending D5/Palm/factorial runs. The original formal artifact11391769604 is preserved and freshly rehashed:14845B/SHA256 1e8abe17179b83c86fc49398bd482af6743b0c4c0ac18c61a59493f6b6d5663d. Unchanged auditor passes in both modes and binds tested 483c6ba, receipt 26bd0ef5fddecb8487a18306aa374811894391cc839c5034e1d9e0d50cd5e399. This remains stacked candidate/core evidence, not a main merge or new Lean proof. Prior reviewer17/17 and predecessor failures keep their original execution attribution; I did not repeat a full unchanged suite merely to count it again.

Useful remainder: the two full-workflow signing methods are preserved as optional supplementary coverage. An additive-only patch from exact #354 fixture to exact #357 fixture was generated and applied with ordinary git apply --check/git apply in a new scratch directory; result matches bf14f2ab byte-for-byte. It does NOT duplicate the command predicate or change #354's existing separate OpenPGP/SSH/global/environment tests. Adoption requires the canonical owner's deliberate scope/delta review; no change to #354 was made here, and no new execution of a combined suite is claimed.

This PR is being closed UNMERGED. All author publication/integration claims under6009734461 are released; no branch is deleted and no parent/main setting is changed. #354's active source reviewer6014329829 and the #330/#348 parent owners retain their scopes.
