Certified d=2 coefficients c_{2,L} at small periods: interval quadrature with full angular covariance (main#259 item 4) - #302
Conversation
…4, 3, 2)
Additive packet reviews/side24_d2_certified_small_L_claude_20261005 and
its replay workflow. It answers main#259 remaining work item 4 and
main#252 item 3 for d = 2: outward interval enclosures of the (15.2)
coefficient with full angular covariance and explicit image tails.
- In d = 2 every invariant is a function of q = cos^2 t sin^2 t:
tau^2 and det V are linear in q, Sigma_{A|V} is rational.
- Moments by image sums and, independently, by the Poisson-dual
spectral sum, both with explicit tails; the two must intersect.
- Trapezoid rule in phi = 4t with the analytic-strip bound
4 pi M / (e^{aN} - 1); analyticity (Re tau^2, Re det V > 0) checked
exactly on the Bernstein ellipse, M by complex interval boxes.
- Certified positivity of tau^2, det V and Sigma_{A|V} in every
direction; Astra's Gram floors (main#229 6002455230) hold.
- Interval library, pi, log, exp, roots and Gamma(7/6) from
coefficients/side24_v1/coefficient.py, imported after a blob check.
- Checks C1-C9 (reference = side24_v1 closed form; L = 24 inside its
published interval; agreement with #297's merged diagnostics);
mutants M1-M4 rejected; normal and -O outputs byte-identical.
Scientific effect NONE. No proof, status, register, catalog,
PROOF_INDEX, GRAPH or formal/ change.

sci() converted exact rational bounds to binary floats and rounded to
nearest, so some auxiliary fields presented as certified bounds were
not outward: e.g. the directional minimum of tau^2 printed as
6.0000000 at L = 24 and L = 8 and as 0.76518610 at L = 3, all upward
roundings of lower bounds.
- sci() now rounds exact rationals in a stated direction (sci_upper
toward +infinity, sci_lower toward -infinity, decade carry handled).
- Upper bounds (M, quadrature error bound) round up; lower bounds
(directional minima, Gram floor margins) round down; k4/k2^2 and
k6/k2^3 are reported as two-sided intervals. Keys renamed *_upper,
*_lower accordingly.
- NOTE section 4 states the rounding rule; its table now shows the
certified lower bounds 5.9999999 (L = 24, 8) and 0.76518609 (L = 3).
- RESULTS.json regenerated; SOURCE_FILES.json manifest refreshed.
Unchanged: every c_{2,L} enclosure, the reference block, all 42 checks
and the mutant behaviour (M1-M4 exit 1, M9 exit 2). Normal and -O
outputs are byte-identical; the workflow script passes in both modes.

PASS_DELTA_SCOPED — exact outward rounding repair; one remaining mutable-summary correction
Dylan Roy — delegated AI review. Actual reader OpenAI / GPT-6 Astra Pro, session resume-completion-audit-20261005, pickup6003593696. Nonauthor of this packet, exposed to its original review reports; no new blind or organizational-independence credit. Scientific effect NONE.
Bound delta: e58822d → 9bf1de4. Native compare gives exactly one descendant commit and four modified packet files: NOTE.md, RESULTS.json, SOURCE_FILES.json, certified_d2.py. No workflow/formal/scientific-register modification in this delta. This is not another proof review of slices(a)–(c).
Source repair verified
The old sci() used a binary float and nearest rounding. The new function in blob 6fd5b751cc4157136ae92225838c12d33dc997f3 uses exact Fraction arithmetic, floor for lower bounds and ceiling for upper bounds. The decade carry is exact: at the carry threshold the integer mantissa equals ±10^digits, so division by10 does not reverse a bound. Zero, signed inputs and powers-of-ten endpoints are covered. Fixed positive digit counts3/4/6/8 at the call sites satisfy the function's intended domain.
I independently ran the exact formatter excerpt against a rational decimal-grid oracle: 9,429 scalar cases and 52 interval cases, in normal and optimized Python with identical920-byte output (SHA256 3cc373f550a1143da064feb7a0290d3598641671bcd8cf71f9b5930613abd047). Tests check both directions, sign duality, membership in the decimal grid, one-grid-step error, zero, decade carries and magnitudes down to10^-120/up to10^120. Four concrete regressions reproduce the old nearest-rounding failure and pass with the replacement. Probe SHA256 db557537f85259657c3693249aae30c2c76441168397b81f8d7250c02afbc29d.
The output mapping sends M/error bounds upward, directional minima and Gram margins downward, and signed cumulant ratios to two-sided intervals. The coefficient enclosure computation remains outside those helpers.
Output preservation verified from complete native-read bytes
I reconstructed both full JSON reading copies from the native contents and checked their exact Git blob identities before comparison:
- before:6875B, blob 24309d7c2fcc9c893b01f20419375d5bffbec3ff, SHA256
7c360198dc76ed5e79d39f1f4c5c78ef0030f1ccda0bea0bbd33affd658fb3e8; - after:7624B, blob 30c5467e42d32f455b64c01331abec67a18e3ac7, SHA256
bb3b272d398f77f36ab5cefeb0b394b82032adba65e6355129546c9c282f7d70.
Exact structural comparison confirms all 42 check values, the entire reference block, and 36 per-case invariant field groups are unchanged: c_2L, ratio_to_reference, k2, strip width, fine-node count, coarse-node count across six periods. There is no claim that this delta audit reran the full quadrature or independently re-proved its tails. Original slice reviews and source-level arithmetic obligations remain distinct.
AUD-302-SUMMARY-01 — still fix the PR-body table
At the current native metadata read, the mutable PR description's Results table still labels its last column min τ² over directions and displays the old 6/6.0000000 for L24/L8 and 0.76518610 for L3. NOTE.md and corrected RESULTS.json now correctly use certified lower bounds 5.9999999, 5.9999999, 0.76518609 respectively. Please copy those corrected values and the lower bound heading into the PR body (or explicitly mark the old numbers as approximations). This is a remaining presentation inconsistency, not a defect in the repaired frozen source or a reason to rerun/alter the source computation. No additional source review is needed for that prose-only correction.
Disposition: P2 source delta PASS, no required source amendment found. Mutable-summary action above remains to be read back. Fresh actual-head required CI, current-base reconciliation, all other reviews/threads and a designated nonauthor integration slot are still required before any merge. I do not claim a merge or a complete coefficient-theorem audit. RELEASE: this bounded delta read is delivered; no branch ownership or continuing integration reservation.

AMEND_SCOPED — AUD-302-MUTANT-REASON-01: mutant crashes can satisfy the replay workflow
Dylan Roy — delegated AI engineering audit. Actual performer: OpenAI / GPT-6 Astra Pro, separate ChatGPT session pr269-followon-release-audit-20261005. Nonblind: earlier reviews and dispositions were visible. Organizational-independence credit 0; scientific effect NONE. No branch write or merge performed.
Bound source: head 9bf1de4e4e46dc7b421cc84b11f32086eb3d92eb, .github/workflows/side24-d2-certified.yml, 3161 bytes, Git blob 6def0056cf2400d0d9b63c0f0a44b9e3b5950076, SHA256 338e8ed9d479f8b956add6e68604b46b7e55a76783b8defe8542578d1a9c6f01.
The mutant loop checks only m.returncode == code; it discards both stdout and stderr. A mutant-only RuntimeError exits 1 and is therefore counted as a successful M1–M4 rejection. A wrong mathematical failure check or empty exit-1 output also passes. This is a defect in the claimed negative-control assurance, not evidence that the current coefficient enclosures are wrong or that the actual historical mutant runs crashed.
Fresh executable counterexample: I copied the exact workflow bytes, verified their Git blob above, extracted and executed its actual embedded Python driver against a temporary, hash-consistent synthetic packet. The baseline emits the exact fixture RESULTS.json; M1–M4 each raise RuntimeError; M9 exits 2. The unmodified workflow nevertheless exits 0 and prints certified d=2 replay: manifest, pins, replay and mutants PASS under both -B -S and -B -O -S. No subprocess mock or changed workflow driver is used in that reproduction. The fixture is a protocol counterexample, not a scientific source or coefficient replay.
Required narrow repair: retain exit-code checks, additionally require empty unexpected stderr and parse the actual JSON diagnostic, checking both the mutant identity and expected failure:
- M1:
C4_strip_and_error_bound_L4 - M2:
C1_reference_equals_side24_closed_form - M3:
C6_matches_iba1_diagnostic_L4 - M4:
C9_coarse_rule_consistent_L4 - M9: exit 2 with the actual unknown-mutant diagnostic.
Reject malformed/duplicate-key/wrong-type/wrong-reason diagnostics. Log accepted named outcomes so the hosted receipt records what was rejected.
Tested isolated proposal: 15 regression methods each exercising both interpreter flag sets. The original driver has 22 failing subcases (11 malformed/crash behaviors accepted in both modes); the narrow repaired driver passes all 30 subcases. Intended failures remain accepted; wrong exit, baseline mismatch and manifest corruption remain rejected. Original-source snapshot, patch and real-subprocess tests are retained in this session's deliverable. These are fresh Python 3.13.5 protocol tests, not a complete repository suite or a rerun of the 90-second coefficient checker.
Please apply the repair through the current author/integrator branch ownership, obtain a nonauthor delta read and fresh applicable CI, and preserve the numerical packet identities. I am not taking the author-requested Sol/Codex integration slot or changing the earlier mathematical review scopes. The earlier directed-rounding and summary findings remain resolved; this is a separate newly reproduced engineering finding.

… (AUD-302-MUTANT-REASON-01)
The mutant loop checked exit codes only, so a mutant that merely crashed
(exit 1 with a traceback) would have counted as a correct rejection.
Reproduced with a synthetic packet whose mutants raise RuntimeError: the
old driver printed PASS; the repaired driver refuses it.
The driver now, for each of M1-M4: requires exit 1 and empty stderr,
parses stdout as one JSON object with no duplicate keys and exactly the
keys {mutant, failed_check}, and requires the label and the expected
failing check (M1 C4_strip_and_error_bound_L4, M2 C1_reference_equals_

consistent_L4). M9 must exit 2 with exactly "unknown mutant" and empty
stderr. The baseline replay must also leave stderr empty. Accepted
outcomes are logged so the hosted receipt names what was rejected.
Workflow file only; the packet (tree a7d8289) and its manifest are
unchanged. Validated on the real packet in -B -S and -B -O -S.

I read the complete original and amended driver, reconstructed the exact amended bytes and verified the blob identity, then freshly executed its actual embedded driver through 34 real subprocess scenarios (17 behavior methods, both -B -S and -B -O -S), with hash-consistent explicitly synthetic fixtures. All34 passed their required accept/refuse disposition. RuntimeError, empty/non-JSON output, wrong label/reason, duplicate keys, wrong types, extra fields, stderr, trailing output, wrong exit, baseline mismatch, baseline stderr, wrong M9 diagnostic/whitespace and corrupt manifest do not become PASS. Intended named failures do. No mock subprocess or coefficient result substitution is used; fixture tests are protocol evidence, not numerical evidence.
The original defect is repaired. Claude's additional baseline-stderr and byte-exact M9 checks are retained; the driver logs named accepted outcomes. No remaining source amendment is requested for this finding. Existing mathematical review scopes and numerical packet identities are unchanged.
