Halo

Halo shows a first-timer what tonight's aurora will look like from where they are, where to stand, and how to shoot it.

  • Halo Score, 0–50. One rating from how close the aurora gets, clouds, darkness, and moonlight. It is not a percent chance.
  • Tonight or the May 10, 2024 storm. Live forecast, or a replay of that G5 night.
  • 360° sky. Drag and zoom a view for your eyes or your camera. Grok Imagine paints it when connected; otherwise Halo draws it.
  • Tonight's plan. When to go, where to stand, which way and how high to look, what eyes and a camera will see, and a short checklist.
  • Local or API key. The plan and camera steps can come from Gemma on this machine, or from the Gemini API.
  • Your camera. Pick a phone or camera and whether you have a tripod. Halo gives the mode, settings, tap-by-tap steps, and what that device cannot change.
  • Hour by hour. The night at your location, with the best window marked.
  • Aurora map. A globe of the oval, and a nearby map of scores within about 200 km, with the best spot starred and a directions link.
  • Why tonight. The flares and solar storms behind the forecast.
