[BUG] /btw causes repeated status messages after closing the response #100808

Description

@sagisar1

Preflight Checklist

  • I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

After using /btw, reading its response, and closing the overlay, Claude Code repeatedly renders duplicate status lines in the terminal UI, including the spinner, /clear tip, and “Allowed by auto mode classifier” message.

This is what I see after i close the /btw command response (ignore the Origin line this is just output of usage)

What Should Happen?

Expected behavior is that Status messages should appear only once and the UI should return to normal after closing the /btw response.

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

  1. create a new session with the claude command
  2. ask claude for something complex that will take some time and bash commads to run (for example build me a 3d game)
  3. use the /btw command and ask any question relevant/not relevant to the project
  4. after the response finishes, click on Esc
  5. you should see the UI rendering multiple times right now with status lines as can be seen in the screenshot above
