Visualize auto/manual mode in the TUI status bar

Problem

The current auto/manual mode (auto_mode config) is not visible in the TUI. The user has no way to know whether they're in auto mode without checking config.

Current state

  • auto_mode is a config flag in packages/core/src/v1/config/config.ts
  • Auto mode is toggled via the --auto CLI flag or the /auto command
  • No visual indicator exists in the TUI status bar or prompt line
  • The auto-mode-btw-command change already has some related work but doesn't include a TUI indicator

Fix

Add a clear, unobtrusive indicator in the TUI that shows the current mode:

Option A: Status bar label

  • Add AUTO or MANUAL label to the existing status bar next to the model/agent display
  • Style: small badge with distinct color (green for auto, gray for manual)

Option B: Prompt line indicator

  • Add (auto) or (manual) suffix to the prompt input line
  • Less prominent but always visible when typing

Option C: Leader key menu

  • Add a toggle in the leader key menu that shows current state
  • Good for discovery but doesn't persist in the UI

Recommendation: Option A — status bar label is the most idiomatic for TUIs, always visible, and follows the pattern of other status indicators (model, agent).

Verification

  • Indicator appears in status bar when auto mode is on
  • Indicator disappears or changes when auto mode is off
  • Indicator updates in real time when mode changes via config, --auto flag, or /auto command

Tasks

Tasks

  • 1. Audit current TUI status bar in packages/tui/src/
  • 2. Design the indicator (label, style, placement)
  • 3. Implement the indicator component
  • 4. Wire to auto_mode config state
  • 5. Verify real-time updates when mode changes
  • 6. Test with --auto flag, /auto command, and config change

Done in 5775f8a: the prompt footer's ● auto badge now follows both the TUI toggle and config auto_mode, and Disable clears both.
