Summary

Adds the Global Discovery HTTP service: the global-discovery-service binary, which serves the pool discovery library from #17331 over HTTP.

  • POST /pools: a PoolRelay registers its pool. It calls this on a timer, and each call is also the pool's heartbeat.
  • GET /pools: the pools a Global Router routes to.
  • GET /routers: the Global Router replicas a PoolRelay connects to.
  • POST /routers: to register Router Replicas. Not needed for the MCS/Karmada discovery method. Will return 501 for registration method (gRCP APIs)
  • GET /healthz: readiness.

Two flags choose the backend behind the API:

  • --pool-discovery says where the pool and router lists come from: registrations (the default: the pools PoolRelays register, and the router replicas given with --router), or what MCS imports, named the Karmada way (karmada) or the standard way (mcs). These two are the values of the operator's mcsImplementation in feat(operator): export Global Router pools through the Multi-Cluster Services API #17412. With karmada, it lists the pools whose PoolRelay Services Karmada imports, and the Global Router replicas from the router Service's imported EndpointSlices. PoolRelay Services are now named <DGD name>-pool-relay; the POC used a relay- prefix.
  • --registration-storage says where registrations are kept: only memory for now. DynamoDB or Kubernetes can come later.

--help groups the flags that work with only some --pool-discovery values. Such a flag given with another value fails at startup, and so do karmada and mcs without --router-namespace, --router-service and --router-port-name, or with one of them empty. With karmada, so does a router Service name longer than Karmada imports (55 characters). In the library, the service reads and writes through PoolDiscoveryBackend, the backend behind the API.

Stacked on #17331. This is the version of #16714 that goes to main, by way of #15949.

Part of #17600, the pool discovery DEP.

HTTP server from #17178
The first commit copies lib/http-server (dynamo-http-server) unchanged from #17178 (by Ishan Dhanani and Sachal Malick, credited in the commit). The second commit is the service itself. The server gives it optional TLS (--tls-cert-path, --tls-key-path), and on shutdown it lets requests in flight finish.

Behavior

  • Left out: checking who calls POST /pools. V1 trusts the network, so nothing used the caller. A pool's relay_identities, for routers to admit its PoolRelays, still come from MCS.
  • An invalid pool key or a blank model in POST /pools gets 422, like any other invalid body, because both are checked while the JSON is read.
  • POST /pools refuses a body over 64 KiB with 413. A registration is a few hundred bytes, and the storage keeps each one for its lease.
  • With --pool-discovery karmada or mcs, pools are listed without a model or frontends, and POST /pools answers 501 whatever the body, because only MCS feeds the list. feat(global-router): read pool models from registrations, not a file #17332 adds both: registrations joined with MCS, and frontends from each pool's frontend Service.
  • --lease-duration-secs refuses more than a day. The shared Lease no longer caps it (feat(global-router): add a crate for types the Global Router components share #17330), so that a client follows any lease it is given, but the service still needs a bound: the registration storage adds the lease to the current time.
  • The Kubernetes client connects within 10 s and waits at most 75 s for the API server to answer, not kube's defaults of 30 s and 295 s. The MCS watches end after 50 s, so a working watch never reaches the read timeout, and a server that stops answering shows up as watch errors in time for the staleness rule in feat(global-router): add the Global Discovery Service library (contract and backends) #17331. A compile-time check keeps the two under 90 s.
  • The Kubernetes client connects to the API server directly. With a kubeconfig, kube takes a proxy from HTTPS_PROXY, ignoring NO_PROXY, and this build has no proxy support.
  • The example manifest listens on [::]:8080, for IPv4 and IPv6 pods, and meets the restricted Pod Security level. CI's filters ignore it and the Dockerfile, since no CI job builds or deploys them yet.

Validation

  • cargo test -p dynamo-global-discovery-service: 59 passed: the 39 from feat(global-router): add the Global Discovery Service library (contract and backends) #17331, the HTTP API, its body limit and shutdown, the real client against it, and the binary's flags: the defaults, a flag for another --pool-discovery value, the router flags MCS needs and their values, --pool-service-suffix parsing, --router URLs, the Karmada name limit and the lease bound. Breaking the refusal, dropping a flag's heading or requirement, swapping the modes, or moving the body limit either way fails a test.
  • cargo test -p dynamo-http-server: 56 passed, as in refactor(http): extract server core and separate chat inference #17178.
  • cargo clippy --all-targets -- -D warnings and cargo fmt on the three crates: clean. cargo doc with -D warnings passes for the service crate. The copied lib/http-server has two rustdoc warnings, left as copied.
  • Ran the binary with --pool-discovery registrations: registered a pool with curl, then checked GET /pools, GET /routers and /healthz. A lease over a day or not longer than the heartbeat, a repeated --router, a flag for another --pool-discovery value, karmada without the --router-* flags or with one empty, a router Service over 55 characters with karmada, a --router URL without http://, and a --pool-service-suffix with no value are refused at startup, with clap's usage and exit code 2. SIGTERM exits 0.
  • Ran it with the manifest's arguments: it serves, /healthz answers 503 until it can reach a cluster, and SIGTERM exits 0. With a kubeconfig and HTTPS_PROXY set, it starts and logs only the proxy's host. POST /pools answers 501 to an empty or non-JSON body. The manifest parses, and build_codeowners.py --strict passes.
  • The image is not built here. The Dockerfile's build command passes locally with --locked (without --release), and the binary links only the C and C++ runtime libraries that the image installs.
  • An adversarial review of the flag change ran before the push. Its findings are fixed: the backend type is PoolDiscoveryBackend, since dynamo_runtime already has a DiscoveryBackend; a flag for another mode is refused whatever sets it, and a test checks that every flag says which modes it works with; clap requires the router flags with MCS; and the 501 answer no longer names MCS.
  • Not yet run on a cluster.

dynamo-global-common holds the types that more than one Global Router
component needs, so each is defined once:
- a pool's identity and location (PoolKey, PoolId and its deriver,
  PoolLocation), from the shared crate on the global-router-v2 test branch;
- the JSON of the Global Discovery Service's HTTP API: the POST /pools body
and its lease reply, and the pool and router lists. Today the service and
  its client each define these;
- how a router names a PoolRelay on a trusted network (address_identity),
  which the service writes into each pool's relay_identity;
- Global Router replicas, and list-and-watch events and snapshots, which
the service and the client in #17208 both define today.

The JSON does not change. PoolKey now reads and writes
{"site_id", "namespace", "dgd_name"} and checks each field while reading.
A lease reply parses only when the heartbeat interval is above zero and
below the lease, as in the client in #17208, and the lease is at most a
day.

…c comments

- A `POST /pools` body with an empty or blank `model` no longer parses, as
with an invalid pool key, so the PoolRelay gets a 422 instead of
registering a pool that no request can match.
- The crate docs said the service writes the API's JSON and its clients
read it; the registration body goes the other way.
- `pool.rs` no longer refers to a source adapter that is not on main, or
calls the V1 derivation the POC one.

The one-day cap made the shared `Lease` stricter than the client in #17208:
once that client reads the shared type, a reply with a longer lease would
fail to parse. The cap only protects the service's own clock arithmetic, so
the service now bounds the lease it grants (#17371), and `Lease` keeps the
checks a client needs: the interval is above zero and below the lease.

Also drops `LeaseError`'s doc comment, which restated its use.

A pool's listing named its PoolRelay by one address. On a dual-stack
cluster the PoolRelay's pod has two, and it connects to a router from
whichever family the router's address uses, so a router matching one
address could turn the right PoolRelay away. `relay_identities` now lists
each of them.

round_trip fails unless the parsed value serializes back to the same
JSON, so the field assertions after it could not catch anything more.
A lease of u64::MAX seconds already shows that a lease has no upper
bound, so the 48-hour case goes too.

dynamo-global-discovery-service starts as a library: which Global Router
pools exist, and which Global Router replicas a PoolRelay connects to.

Following the Global Router coding standards:
- The contract comes first: the store traits in pool_discovery
  (PoolDirectory, PoolRegistrar, ReplicaDirectory), on the
  dynamo-global-common types.
- The stores sit below it: in memory (registrations with leases), and MCS
(pools and router replicas from the EndpointSlices that Karmada or a
  standard MCS implementation imports).

The HTTP service that serves them is added separately.

The code is the discovery work from #15933 and #15949, in the crate layout
of the global-router-v2 test branch. It leaves out the router-side pieces
those PRs had (relay admission, state connections, router discovery
modes): routers now read pools from the service, and relay connections
belong to the router.

- When the EndpointSlice watch keeps failing, for example after its RBAC is
removed, the cache served its last view as complete indefinitely. It
still serves that view, and the service stays ready, but after a minute
of failures it reports the view as Estimated, so GET /pools says
"complete": false, and it logs the failures as errors.
- A misnamed router port, Service or namespace left GET /routers empty with
nothing in the log. A router EndpointSlice without the named port is now
logged, and so is a relist that lists nothing, which also catches a
  cluster without the expected ServiceImports.

… list

Review feedback:
- list_and_watch returns a stream that yields nothing until the first
complete list. That is deliberate, as dynamo_runtime's Kubernetes
discovery also waits to be ready, but it was undocumented. The cancel
token ends the wait, and the watch's failures are logged.
- The error logged after a minute of watch failures claimed to list the
last view as incomplete even before there was a view.
- A test comment only restated the next line.

…ache

- The watcher's lists, including its relists after a watch error, were
quorum reads from etcd (kube's default, ListSemantic::MostRecent), paged
500 at a time. They now use any_semantic(): the API server answers from
its watch cache, and the watch catches up from there. Discovery needs
nothing stronger, and the pool watch covers every imported EndpointSlice
  in the cluster.
- The one list made before the cache syncs uses match_any() for the same
  reason.
- The pool and router indexes each had a copy of the Ready filter; both now
  use one ready_endpoints helper.

… them

The previous commit asked the watcher for lists from the API server's
cache with any_semantic(), but kube sends resourceVersion=0 only when no
page size is set, and the watcher pages 500 at a time by default. Its
lists therefore stayed paged quorum reads from etcd. With paging off they
are served from the watch cache in one response, as client-go's reflector
lists. The cache keeps only what it derives from each slice, so the larger
response costs little.

… who makes it

The MCS store's module doc said the operator creates each PoolRelay
Service's `ServiceExport`, but no operator code does. It now says what the
store needs, and what `relay_identity` is for: routers do not check it yet.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

From an independent review against the Global Router coding standards:

- A failing EndpointSlice watch is now reported correctly. The cache
cleared its failure clock on `Init`, which kube sends before each relist
attempt, so a list that kept failing never made the view `Estimated`.
And kube resumes a watch without an event, so after one error a healthy
watch turned `Estimated` a minute later. Now errors spanning a minute
mark the view stale, and two minutes without one count as recovery.
`Init` no longer reaches kube's backoff, which it reset, so a failing
list backs off instead of retrying every 800 ms.
- `register` takes the `PoolRegistration` a PoolRelay sends and returns
the `Lease`, and pools are listed as `PoolListing`. The store's own
record type and its unused revision are gone.
- A pool binds to a PoolRelay pod and lists every address of it in
`relay_identities`, so a dual-stack PoolRelay matches from either family.
A router replica in an IPv4 and an IPv6 slice is served at its IPv4
address, whatever the slices are named.
- The memory store reports a list as exact once a lease has passed since
  it started.
- With Karmada, a Service name over 57 characters loses its cluster from
the slice names. Such slices are now logged rather than skipped silently,
  and the limit is documented.
- `hub`, `endpoints` and `mcs` are private. `EndpointSliceReplicaDirectory`
  is `McsReplicaDirectory` with `new`, `PoolDiscoveryError` is
`DiscoveryError`, the store types implement `Debug`, and the contract's
docs no longer name stores or HTTP routes.
- A relist no longer copies the whole view to check whether it is empty.

The changed-files job failed on this PR because no CI filter matched
container/Dockerfile.global-discovery-service or
container/global-discovery-service.yaml. Neither has a CI image-build or
deploy job yet, so both go under `ignore`.

…wer 501 first

Fixes from a review of this PR:
- A `--pool-service-suffix` left without a value no longer takes the
next flag as the suffix. That could silently drop `--listen` or the
TLS flags. A suffix that starts with `-` goes after `=`.
- `--router` needs an http or https URL. Without `http://`, `Url` read
a host such as `localhost:50051` as the scheme, and PoolRelays got a
  URL they could not reach.
- The `--router-*` flags cannot be empty. With `karmada`, a
`--router-service` longer than Karmada can import fails at startup,
instead of leaving the service unready while the API server refuses
  every list. `McsImplementation::can_import` and
  `KARMADA_MAX_SERVICE_NAME` are exported for this.
- `--tls-client-ca-cert-path` is removed. The only client,
`dynamo-global-discovery-client`, cannot present a certificate, so
mTLS could not work, and the TCP probe it called for hid backend
  failures. TLS stays.
- `POST /pools` answers 501 without a registrar before it reads the
body, so an invalid body no longer gets 415 or 422 instead.
- The Kubernetes client connects directly. With a kubeconfig, kube took
a proxy from `HTTPS_PROXY`, which this build cannot use, and failed at
  startup.

…urity and on IPv6

The pod sets the RuntimeDefault seccomp profile, the one control of the
`restricted` Pod Security level it lacked. It listens on `[::]:8080`,
which takes IPv4 and IPv6, so it also works on clusters with IPv6 pods.

…ithout routers

More fixes from the review of this PR:
- A bad lease or a repeated `--router` is checked in `parse_args`, so it
gets clap's usage and exit code 2, like every other flag mistake.
Before, it exited 1 from `main`.
- With `--pool-discovery registrations` and no `--router`, the service
warns at startup, since `GET /routers` then lists no router for
  PoolRelays.
- A test runs `dynamo-global-discovery-client` against the routes, so
the client and the service cannot drift apart while both test suites
  pass.

The stream's docs said it waits until the source has "a complete view",
which reads like `Completeness::Exact`. It means the source has listed
everything once: for MCS, kube's `InitDone`. Whether a list holds every
item is its `completeness`, which each `Resync` carries.

A list's completeness says whether it may be missing items, and
`GET /pools` passes it on as `complete`. The contract now says what a
caller that keeps its own pool list does with each: replace on a complete
list, merge a partial one and keep missing pools, and still use a partial
list when it knows no pools yet. The design link points at the DEP issue,
#17600, since enhancements #103 is closed.

…lags are

The same fixes #17371 made to its flags, for the flags this PR adds:
- A `--frontend-service-suffix` left without a value no longer takes the
next flag as the suffix. A suffix that starts with `-` goes after `=`.
- `--frontend-port-name` and the `--peer-*` flags cannot be empty.
- With `karmada`, a `--peer-service` longer than Karmada can import fails
  at startup, as `--router-service` does.
- `--peer-service` with `--tls-cert-path`, and a lease of at most two
heartbeats with `--peer-service`, get clap's usage and exit code 2
instead of exiting 1 from `main`.

200 here while GET /pools says complete: false is the right call for readiness, pods shouldn't gate on their pools. but someone wiring a router will read "ready" as "the list is good". one sentence in the module doc at :13 along the lines of "ready does not mean complete, read complete on GET /pools" would save a bug later.

no DefaultBodyLimit on the router, so axum's 2MB default applies to POST /pools. a registration is a few hundred bytes. a 64KiB limit is cheap insurance on an unauthenticated endpoint and matters more once #17644 makes each one a ddb write.

[P2] POST /pools keeps bodies of up to 2 MiB for their whole lease, and nothing caps the number of pools. lib/global-discovery-service/src/service.rs:66. Please add a body limit (tested diff below) and a cap on stored pools, so that one caller cannot exhaust the memory.

Measured on this head, with the binary on 127.0.0.1, `--pool-discovery registrations` and one client.
request result
POST /pools with a 2,097,152-byte body 200
POST /pools with a 2,097,153-byte body 413 Failed to buffer the request body: length limit exceeded
120 registrations of 1,907,898 bytes each RSS grew by 230 MiB, to 262,088 KiB
GET /pools after those 120 228,719,788 bytes in 3.3 s, and RSS rose to 470,060 KiB
100,000 registrations of 291 bytes each 13.5 s, and RSS grew by 135.6 MiB

The example manifest sets limits.memory: 256Mi. It runs karmada, where POST /pools answers 501, but registrations is the default.

The fix: a 64 KiB limit and a test. The test fails on this head (200, not 413) and passes with the limit.

With the diff applied, cargo test -p dynamo-global-discovery-service passes 49 + 10 tests, and backend_without_registrar_refuses_registrations still passes. cargo fmt --check and cargo clippy --all-targets -- -D warnings are clean. A cap on the number of pools is a larger change, so it is not in this diff.

nit: --http-port is the frontend's flag, ours is --listen. unreachable here since we pass our own listener, but the crate is generic now. fine to fix in whichever of this or #17178 is merged second.

atchernych and others added 2 commits October 30, 2026 13:01
A pool runs active-active PoolRelay replicas: each reports to every Global
Router, and routers dedupe the overlapping reports, as the operator's
DynamoPoolRelay runs two pods and #17686 keeps their reports apart. The
MCS backend bound only the Ready pod with the lowest address, so routers
matching relay_identities would admit one replica and refuse the other.

It now lists every Ready PoolRelay pod by each of its addresses, sorted,
so every service instance lists the same identities. A pool stays live
while any PoolRelay endpoint is Ready, and a pod that stops being Ready
leaves the listing. An IPv4-mapped IPv6 address counts as its IPv4
address, so a pod is never listed twice under one identity. The pods were
grouped by targetRef only to choose one, so the grouping is gone.
PoolListing::relay_identities now says it names every replica, and the
memory store says that replicas registering one pool should send the same
registration.

No P0 or P1 found. This review has one P2 and one P3. It covers head b844440338d5bdfa4f42af449befe1c71c19ff52 as its own diff on top of #17331. It also covers a local merge of both PRs into main at ba9caeac492cdeef00fbb6096ae6efda40f81064, which merges without conflicts.

Findings:

  • [P2] POST /pools keeps bodies of up to 2 MiB for their lease, and nothing caps the number of pools. lib/global-discovery-service/src/service.rs:66. The measurements and a tested diff are on the existing thread there.
  • [P3] The test counts in the Validation section predate the newest commit of #17331. At this head, cargo test -p dynamo-global-discovery-service passes 58 tests: 48 in the library, 39 of them from #17331, and 10 in main.rs. The description says 55, with 37 from #17331. Please update it.

Open items from other reviewers:

  • service.rs:62: this head has no client_ca field. serve passes tls_client_ca_cert_path: None at line 90, and the description says that mTLS is left out.
  • service.rs:163: the readiness wording in the module doc.
  • lib/http-server/src/server.rs:208: the --http-port text. The service passes its own listener, so it never reaches that branch.
  • lib/http-server is a copy from #17178. All 9 files match #17178 at 09532874562b1b7a08a75b579f5b26080be29695 byte for byte, and both PRs add the same owner lines for lib/http-server. Both PRs also add the lib/http-server workspace member and the dynamo-http-server key. A merge of the two heads lists the member twice and conflicts on that key. So the PR that merges second needs to drop its copy and those two lines.
Tests, lock file, owners and CI filters.
  • cargo test --locked: 58 passed for dynamo-global-discovery-service and 56 for dynamo-http-server. They pass on the head, and on merges with main at 3057891245 and at ba9caeac49.
  • Changing service.rs:116 so that a rejected body answers 200 fails invalid_key_is_rejected and a_registration_must_be_json.
  • cargo tree --locked passes on the head and on both merges. The lock adds one local package, dynamo-http-server, and no crate from a registry.
  • emit_codeowners.py regenerates CODEOWNERS and CONTRIBUTORS.md byte for byte on the head and on the merge with 3057891245. build_codeowners.py --strict passes on the full tree and with --changed-only.
  • who_owns.py: the service files and the manifest go to @ai-dynamo/dynamo-global-router-codeowners. The Dockerfile goes to that team and @ai-dynamo/dynamo-ops-codeowners. lib/http-server/ goes to @ai-dynamo/dynamo-frontend-codeowners, with @ai-dynamo/dynamo-observability-codeowners added for metrics.rs.
  • .github/filters.yaml: the two new paths are under ignore, so a change to only the Dockerfile or the manifest starts no CI job. The edit to filters.yaml itself matches the ci filter, so this PR also runs the core, deploy, frontend, operator and power_agent jobs. The Deploy Test, Power Agent and operator jobs ran on this head, and not on #17331.
  • CI at this head, at the time of this review: one Pre Merge run passed, with the Rust tests, clippy and operator. A second Pre Merge run was queued. In the PR run, sglang-runtime / Test cuda13.0, amd64 and sglang Deploy Test / agg_embed were still running, and the other jobs passed. Three jobs of duplicate runs were cancelled.
The binary on 127.0.0.1, with each route and each startup check.
  • --pool-discovery registrations: GET /healthz, GET /routers and GET /pools answer 200, and a valid POST /pools answers 200 with the lease.
  • POST /pools answers 422 for a key field that is blank, empty or holds a control character, and for a model of the same kind. It also answers 422 for a missing or null field, a wrong type, a negative workers, and a frontend that is not a URL. An unknown field is accepted.
  • POST /pools answers 400 for broken JSON or an empty body, and 415 without Content-Type: application/json. POST /routers answers 501 with its reason. Other methods answer 405.
  • With a 1 s heartbeat and a 3 s lease, each pool left GET /pools within 3.5 s of its last registration. The complete field changed from false to true, as the 3 s lease predicts.
  • Each flag mistake in the description exits with code 2 and clap's message. This includes a lease over 86,400 s, a heartbeat not below the lease, a repeated --router, and a --router URL without http://. It also includes a flag for the other --pool-discovery value and missing or empty --router-* flags. A 56-character --router-service with karmada and a --pool-service-suffix without a value also exit with code 2.
  • --pool-discovery karmada with a kubeconfig that points to a closed local port: /healthz, GET /pools and GET /routers answer 503, and POST /pools answers 501 for a valid body, no body and a non-JSON body. With HTTPS_PROXY=http://user:<password>@proxy.invalid:3128, the log names proxy.invalid and not the password.
  • SIGTERM exits 0 in every run.
  • The service records no metrics, so no metric label comes from a request.
  • From a request, only the 400 and 422 bodies echo text: the error from serde, which names the field path and, for a wrong type, the value. A 1.9 MB string in workers came back in a 1,900,141-byte 422 body. The only bound is the 2 MiB body limit. The service logs nothing from a request.
The image from the Dockerfile in this PR, built on a Linux host, and the example manifest.
  • docker buildx build -f container/Dockerfile.global-discovery-service . passes. Its cargo build --locked --release finished in 2m 34s, and the image has 100,201,866 bytes.
  • The bases resolved to rust:1.96.1-trixie@sha256:1f0dbad1df66647807e6952d1db85d0b2bda7606cb2139d82517e4f009967376 and debian:trixie-slim@sha256:f6b08b09a05725f9431502d3b5714f5c4576e82c1a84fa1debe0c24a7e0c3ec4. They are pinned by tag, as in the other Dockerfiles in container/.
  • The image runs as uid=10001 gid=0. ldd lists only libgcc_s, libm and libc, and sleep exists for the preStop hook.
  • With a read-only root filesystem, all capabilities dropped and no-new-privileges, the image serves in registrations mode.
  • The image also runs with the arguments of the manifest and a kubeconfig that points to a closed local port. It then answers 503 on /healthz and 501 on POST /pools. docker stop exits 0 in both runs.
  • The manifest sets each field that the restricted Pod Security level checks: runAsNonRoot, seccompProfile: RuntimeDefault, allowPrivilegeEscalation: false and capabilities.drop: ["ALL"]. It uses no host namespace, host port or volume.

POST /pools took bodies of up to axum's default of 2 MiB, and the
backend keeps each registration for its lease. A registration is a few
hundred bytes, so the routes now refuse a body over 64 KiB with 413
before it reaches the backend. A test sends one body at the limit and
one a byte over it.

The module doc now says that ready does not mean the pool list is
complete: GET /pools says that in `complete`.

Reviewed at b844440338d5bdfa4f42af449befe1c71c19ff52, as its own diff on top of #17331. Also reviewed on a local merge of both PRs into main at ba9caeac492cdeef00fbb6096ae6efda40f81064, which has no conflicts.

  • Tests: 58 for the service and 56 for dynamo-http-server pass on both trees. A deliberate break of the rejection path in service.rs fails two tests.
  • lib/http-server matches #17178 at 09532874562b1b7a08a75b579f5b26080be29695 byte for byte. The lock adds no crate from a registry, and CODEOWNERS regenerates byte for byte.
  • The binary: every route answers as the description says, a lease runs out on time, each startup check exits with code 2, and SIGTERM exits 0.
  • The image builds with --locked --release, runs as 10001:0 with a read-only root filesystem, and serves with the arguments of the manifest.

Open items: the P2 on service.rs:66 (each stored registration can hold up to 2 MiB, and nothing caps the number of stored pools), and the stale test counts in the description. The threads of estroz are also open. lib/http-server exists twice until #17178 or this PR merges and the other drops its copy and its two Cargo.toml lines.

Walkthrough

This change adds a Global Discovery Service with in-memory and Kubernetes MCS discovery backends, an HTTP API, an executable, and deployment resources. It also adds a reusable HTTP server crate with lifecycle tracking, request and load types, optional TLS, and connection timeout handling.

Changes

Global Discovery Service

Layer / File(s) Summary
Discovery contracts and in-memory backend
lib/global-common/src/discovery.rs, lib/global-discovery-service/Cargo.toml, lib/global-discovery-service/src/{backends.rs,lib.rs,pool_discovery.rs}, lib/global-discovery-service/src/pool_discovery/*, lib/global-discovery-service/src/backends/{memory.rs,stream.rs}
Defines pool, replica, registration, directory, and watch contracts. Adds an in-memory pool store, a static replica directory, and shared list-and-watch stream behavior. Updates the relay identity documentation for active-active PoolRelay replicas.
Kubernetes MCS discovery
lib/global-discovery-service/src/backends/kubernetes*
Adds Standard and Karmada EndpointSlice selection, shared caching and watch recovery, and MCS-backed pool and router-replica directories. The directories index slice updates and relists and include tests for filtering, aggregation, completeness, and watch behavior.
HTTP API and executable
lib/global-discovery-service/src/{service.rs,main.rs}
Adds pool and router listing, pool registration, health checks, response limits, backend error handling, CLI validation, backend selection, TLS setup, and signal-driven shutdown.
Deployment and repository integration
container/{Dockerfile.global-discovery-service,global-discovery-service.yaml}, .github/{filters.yaml,codeowners/areas.yaml}, CODEOWNERS
Adds a multi-stage service image and a Kubernetes deployment with EndpointSlice access. Updates CI ignore paths and ownership mappings for the new service resources.

HTTP Server Crate

Layer / File(s) Summary
Crate setup and request/load types
Cargo.toml, lib/http-server/Cargo.toml, lib/http-server/src/{lib.rs,load.rs,request.rs}, .github/codeowners/areas.yaml, CODEOWNERS
Adds lib/http-server to the workspace and declares dynamo-http-server. Adds serializable load types, request body and JSON content-type helpers, public module declarations, and ownership mappings.
Lifecycle and disconnect tracking
lib/http-server/src/{lifecycle.rs,disconnect.rs}
Adds service readiness and shutdown stages, inflight request tracking through response completion, request-ID propagation, and connection-disconnect monitoring.
HTTP transport and write deadlines
lib/http-server/src/{server.rs,write_timeout.rs}
Adds HTTP and optional TLS serving, graceful draining, listener configuration, connection deadlines, and stalled-write timeouts. Tests cover transport configuration and timeout behavior.

Merge Risk: Low · up to 98c2a

The example deployment command in the manifest header fails when run from the repository root because it omits the container/ directory. This is easy to fix and does not affect the service itself. The change is otherwise ready to merge.

Correct the deployment command’s manifest path.

If a user runs this command from the repository root, sed cannot find global-discovery-service.yaml. The file is under container/. Use container/global-discovery-service.yaml so the documented build and deployment commands work from the same directory. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
