Why and what changed

 • Repair vLLM 0.31 dense-attention collection and SGLang 0.5.20 attention-module collection for agentic workloads. Keep coverage expansion enabled by default, with no agentic toggle.
 • vLLM: use native metadata and KV-cache view construction, preserve the 0.24/0.25 path, and record the actual prefill/decode kernel. Add AISIM_VLLM_ATTENTION_BLOCK_SIZE (default 64; Qwen hybrid-cache campaign uses 16).
 • SGLang: adapt resolved runtime arguments, quantization/distributed initialization, requests, native forward-input relay and the moved index-cache quantization import. Fix graph eligibility for intermediate batches such as 52. Retain main's DSA history seeding, native QKV projections and token validation from fix: repair SGLang DSA collector inputs and timing boundary #405.
 • Expand default vLLM context coverage with 24,576/32,768/40,960-token anchors and a 655,360 GQA token budget. Expand SGLang module decode coverage with batch 52, five history anchors through 720,896 tokens and a 37,486,592 token budget, while preserving existing batches and model position bounds.
 • Agentic turns attend to accumulated history. The context table looks up prefix + new-token length, then scales full-causal timing by (full_length² - prefix_length²) / full_length²; anchors must therefore extend beyond the new-token scheduler budget. Decode likewise needs long cached histories and the concurrent workload's batch sizes.

Collection cost

 • Qwen / vLLM: selected TP8 BF16 coverage grows 77 → 95 cases (+18, +23.4%). On one B300, all 95 cases took 52.8 seconds from collector start to parquet output, including 26.3 seconds of worker execution. The CI job took 143.5 seconds (2m24s), excluding queue time. Collection job.
 • GLM / SGLang: the earlier targeted campaign collected 110 cases per indexer mode, 220 total. Each B300 collector took approximately 143 seconds from plan generation to parquet output; each worker ran for approximately 139 seconds. The two jobs ran in parallel; their child pipeline took 425 seconds (7m05s), excluding queue time. Full indexer, index reuse.
 • Incremental collection time was not measured separately. These are total campaign times, not the extra cost of expansion. Startup, graph capture and shape-dependent execution prevent a reliable proportional estimate.
 • Default-grid expansion: GLM-5.2 DSA grows 154 → 250 shapes per geometry/precision/indexer mode (+96, +62.3%), with no old shapes lost. Shared SGLang axes also expand MLA and MSA; the MiniMax-M3 MSA grid grows 185 → 239 (+29.2%) with its budget unchanged. The unfiltered SM103 vLLM context grid grows 54,468 → 68,656 (+26.05%). Neither complete expanded default grid has been timed or GPU-qualified.

Review map and limits

 • Risk level: medium. Start with collector/vllm/{collect_attn,utils}.py, collector/sglang/collect_mla_module.py, the two base-op sweep YAMLs and the GLM runtime manifest pin.
 • No perf-row schema, SDK/Rust or shipped data changes. Related measured data remains in perf: add B300 SGLang GLM agentic decode data #665 (GLM) and perf: add B300 vLLM Qwen3.5 agentic prefill data #666 (Qwen3.5).
 • Exact runtime manifests remain the qualification gate. vLLM GPU evidence covers 0.31, BF16 Qwen TP8 geometry and kernel page 16. Page size remains provenance rather than a lookup axis; keep distinct page-size campaigns separate.
 • The historical SGLang 0.5.20 GPU campaign predates fix: repair SGLang DSA collector inputs and timing boundary #405. It validates the original compatibility changes and decode coverage, not the newly integrated history/projection/input path. Fresh GPU validation of the combined code remains outstanding.
 • SGLang 0.5.20 DSA prefill raises MeasurementBoundaryError until its native prefill graph boundary is adapted; it does not substitute eager timing. Existing 0.5.14 prefill behavior is retained. vLLM still graph-times KV writes plus attention, which may differ from serving's prefill boundary.

Evidence

 • Local validation: 178 SGLang runtime/quantization/graph tests, 11 cache-history tests with real CPU Torch, and 198 case/model/framework/manifest tests passed. The unchanged vLLM collector previously passed 34 tests with real CPU Torch. macOS runs used -p no:timeout; shared suites used the existing research environment, not a fresh native build.
 • Negative/boundary checks cover old/new runtime initialization, request ranges, native relay payloads, history writers, graph bucket boundaries, preserved coverage and modern prefill rejection before timing/publication. Ruff, packaged-license consistency and git diff --check passed.
 • vLLM GPU source: 13e15164522c495af025cfb4d683c7dd06666328. Smoke pipeline: 5/5. Full pipeline: 95/95 unique prefill rows, zero failed or unattempted cases.
 • SGLang GPU source: 3d41164034624251209588ee0284694e86a13bd8. Pipeline: 220/220 decode rows, zero collector errors, all graph-timed. TP8 describes local geometry; each job used one B300.
 • vLLM runtime: 0.31 source db9527a46873454610df6dbedf79a36d6bf1a7f6, image digest sha256:a4a4c0437bf7240089da5f08aa370c4aee17ae5290f7a3b468825ee26c4c3a6b. SGLang runtime: 0.5.20 source 94602c9c2b7cbdb8efd5c52802dac6a1c180089e, image digest sha256:06e4f2ed21afde4ff513cda65070124e727ba23ccaeff7712b8c40e1097d611f.
 • Codex review: no blocking findings on the integrated change; four boundary/relay tests independently rechecked. Current head: 6b97659c294e464c7e2c18e5d424f00783df2b47. Fast CI is running; Full CI is queued for that exact head. CodeRabbit is pending. GitHub verifies the GPG signature; the commit carries a DCO sign-off.
 • Expected values derive from native framework contracts, physical layouts and declared grids; no fitted timing values or calibration changes.

📝 Summary

Risk: Moderate. Three areas need human review:

 1. vLLM compatibility: Check the v0.31 cache-layout resolver, view builder, and metadata path against the retained v0.24/0.25 path. The stated support range excludes v0.26–0.30. Check the block-size rejection and FlashInfer kernel-source reporting.
 2. Coverage and collection cost: Check the new 24,576-, 32,768-, and 40,960-token anchors and the GQA batch-times-sequence cap increase from 131,072 to 655,360. The selected Qwen TP8 BF16 collection grows from 77 to 95 cases. The unfiltered SM103 grid grows from 54,468 to 68,656 cases; the expanded grid’s total runtime is not reported.
 3. SGLang AgentX compatibility: Check the SGLang 0.5.20 runtime adapters, decode graph eligibility, and GLM-5.2-NVFP4 runtime pin. DSA prefill is explicitly rejected because the collector lacks a qualified graph-boundary adapter. Planned expanded coverage is not GPU-feasibility evidence.

Changed behavior and contracts: AISIM_VLLM_ATTENTION_BLOCK_SIZE defaults to 64. The vLLM 0.31 path uses native cache-layout and view APIs; older supported versions retain the legacy path. The attention-context sweep adds long-context anchors and raises its GQA cap. The SGLang MLA/DSA sweep adds decode coverage, including batch 52 and longer history anchors, subject to the model position limit and configured token budget. No agentic mode, prefix-length axis, cached-tail measurement, or shipped performance data change is reported.

Evidence supplied: The objectives report 34 attention-collector tests and 198 related tests passing, plus Ruff, legal-file, and diff checks. They report GPU smoke at 5/5 and a full pipeline at 95/95. The Qwen collection took 52.8 seconds, including a 26.3-second worker window; the added 18 cases were not timed separately. These are reported results, not independently verified here. Full CI was still running for the stated head revision.

Technical quality and merge readiness: The supplied evidence supports the specified Qwen configuration, but does not qualify every default case, intermediate vLLM release, or other collector using the shared utility. The expanded SM103 grid has not been timed as a whole. Current review findings and severity counts are unavailable. The reported checks and results do not establish review approval or complete merge readiness.

The vLLM collector adds v0.31 metadata and cache APIs while retaining legacy paths. The SGLang collector adds runtime adapters for versions through 0.5.20 and expands MLA/DSA decode coverage, including GLM-5.2 runtime and shard settings.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 6b976

The expanded default MLA/DSA decode sweep includes a case that cannot fit on an 80 GB GPU. That failure can abort the whole generation collection group, so add a generation-time memory filter with counted drops before merging. Separately, move the position-limit filter out of the collector run path or get explicit owner approval. The larger vLLM context-attention cases should also be checked against GPU memory.

Full details: Modeling And Data Evidence

Explanation

No unexplained model/performance-data refresh is introduced. The PR changes collector code and sweep declarations, not measured tables or prediction goldens. The new selection logic has reproducible boundary checks: SGLang tests preserve the prior grid, require past_KV + 1 <= max_position_embeddings, and assert the expanded AgentX pairs; vLLM tests cover legacy/0.31 cache metadata, native layout/view construction, page-size rejection, and kernel-source labels (python/aisimulate/tests/unit/collector/sglang/test_collect_mla_module.py:154-210, python/aisimulate/tests/unit/collector/test_vllm_collect_attn.py:207-259,368-478). The PR records upstream provenance and immutable runtime commits for both integrations (THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md:213-241,373-385). The documentation gives the before/after coverage figures and explicitly limits historical GPU evidence to the old recipe, states that current timing claims require recollection, and warns that planned expanded coverage is not GPU-feasibility evidence (python/aisimulate/collector/sglang/README.md:46-86).

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description covers the problem, implementation scope, review map, compatibility limits, test results, GPU evidence, provenance, and expected-value derivation. It does not include a dedicated Modeling or data provenance section or the Tracking section, but the required information is mostly present.

Full details: Cross-Layer Contract

Explanation

The prior cross-layer failure remains unresolved. The changed vLLM 0.31 producer now persists vllm_flashinfer_flashinfertrtllmapidecode_trtllm_gen or vllm_flashinfer_flashinfertrtllmapidecode_xqa at collector/vllm/collect_attn.py:150-155, and log_perf writes that value to kernel_source at lines 434-439. The backend map is unchanged across the PR and contains only the unsuffixed metadata-class label at collector/kernel_source_backends.yaml:277; unmapped labels become unverified in tools/perf_database/backend_facts.py:184-191,206-210. The SDK override contract is also unchanged and omits _xqa at src/aisimulate_core/sdk/attention_lanes.py:60-68. The SDK query path uses that contract at src/aisimulate_core/sdk/operations/attention.py:228-237. The PR tests cover producer output at tests/unit/collector/test_vllm_collect_attn.py:466-474, but no map translation or SDK override test covers the new labels.

Resolution

Add exact vllm_flashinfer_flashinfertrtllmapidecode_trtllm_gen and vllm_flashinfer_flashinfertrtllmapidecode_xqa entries to collector/kernel_source_backends.yaml with validated trtllm_mha and flashinfer backends. Add the _xqa label to the vLLM flashinfer tuple in src/aisimulate_core/sdk/attention_lanes.py. Update related lane/map documentation. Add tests that translate both labels to their expected backends and resolve both labels through the explicit SDK override path.

Full details: Compatibility Boundaries

Explanation

The PR still introduces an unsynchronized vLLM version boundary. python/aisimulate/collector/vllm/collect_attn.py:21 accepts vLLM 0.25.1 because it omits !=0.25.1, while the neighboring qualified collectors and the compatibility test preserve 0.25.1 as rejected (collect_gemm.py:132, collect_moe.py:163, test_framework_manifest.py:790-803). The attention collector evidence in the changed file qualifies 0.25.0 and 0.31.0, not 0.25.1. No Rust, public SDK, or artifact files changed to deliberately update this boundary.

Resolution

Add !=0.25.1 to the attention collector compatibility declaration. Add an attention-specific compatibility test for 0.24.0, 0.25.0, 0.25.1, 0.26.0–0.30.0, 0.31.0, and 0.31.1. Alternatively, directly qualify vLLM 0.25.1 and update the compatibility tests and runtime evidence.

Full details: Review Evidence

Explanation

The visible PR description names local commands and results, including pytest, Ruff, legal-file, and diff checks. It also reports boundary evidence, such as rejected block sizes and unsupported-version limits, and separates macOS CPU checks from GPU smoke/full pipeline evidence. The description is truncated after “Smoke pipeline: 5/5, incl”, so the required fake-runner/parity classification and the complete hosted-workflow claims are unavailable. The repository confirms that Full CI conditionally calls reusable workflows, including collector-check.yml and validate-platform-wheels.yml in .github/workflows/ci.yml lines 236-260, but this cannot establish what the omitted description claimed about those runs.

Resolution

Provide the complete PR description, especially the remainder of the Evidence section. It must explicitly classify local, fake-runner, parity, and production evidence, and must not present skipped or inactive reusable-workflow jobs as hosted CI results.

Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

Filter cases that cannot fit in device memory.

The new limit admits batch=16, sequence=40960, heads=64, kv_heads=8, head_dim=128. get_context_attention_test_cases accepts this shape, but run_attention_torch retains about 25 GiB of BF16 Q/K/V tensors before allocating the KV cache or output. It therefore fails on a 24 GiB GPU. Add a generation-time device-memory feasibility filter and count its drops. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

 • The frozen base attention sweep retains max_tokens_grouped_query_attention: 131072; the PR’s vLLM-specific increase to 655360 is therefore not reflected in this compatibility reference. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::collector/cases/base_ops/attention_context.yaml:68]
 • The frozen vLLM collector is pinned to vLLM 0.24.0 and still embeds the 131072 grouped-query limit. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::collector/vllm/collect_attn.py:4-6] [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::collector/vllm/collect_attn.py:380-408]
 • Existing vLLM performance metadata uses distinct kernel-source labels for FlashInfer decode and prefill, including vllm_flashinfer_trtllmdecode and vllm_flashinfer_trtllmprefill. New dispatch labels should remain distinct from the stored row schema. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::collector/op_backend_facts.yaml:127-142]

ai-dynamo/dynamo

 • Dynamo pins vllm[flashinfer,runai,otel]==0.32.0, while this PR’s collector support claim ends at vLLM 0.31.0; v0.32 compatibility is not covered by the stated implementation. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::pyproject.toml:65-72]
 • Dynamo has no reference to AISIM_VLLM_ATTENTION_BLOCK_SIZE. Its serving-side block-size contract instead uses vLLM’s configured cache block size or dynamo_kv_event_block_size. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::components/src/dynamo/vllm/cache_info.py:20-26]
 • The sidecar validates effective attention block sizes as nonzero u32 values for KV routing, so the collector’s campaign page size should not be treated as a serving/API configuration. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::lib/sidecar/vllm/src/model.rs:242-254]

149-155: Functional Correctness

No fixed-label consumer rejects the new values.

The backend-facts loader records unmapped kernel_source values as backend=unverified. The reuse and cross-backend consumers group and preserve labels as strings. The new labels are therefore accepted without requiring an allowlist.

Measure the newly enabled 262,144-token GQA cases.

The higher GQA cap admits the existing 262144 anchor for batch 1. The collection path constructs Q, K, and V for the full sequence, so this case has approximately 256 times the full-causal query-key pairs of the previous largest eligible 16384 sequence. The reported 95-case Qwen run does not quantify the expanded default grid or these cases’ incremental cost. Measure representative 262144 GQA cases and estimate their contribution before accepting the runtime increase.

Measure representative batch-1 GQA cases at the newly eligible 262144-token
length and estimate their incremental runtime contribution to the default
collection grid; use the max_tokens_grouped_query_attention setting to identify
the affected cases, and report the estimate before accepting the increased cap.

Review comments at @python/aisimulate/collector/cases/base_ops/mla_module.yaml:
- Line 170: Add a generation-time device-capacity filter to the cases governed
by generation.max_tokens before they are queued, and count cases dropped by the
filter. Exclude cases whose estimated memory requirement exceeds the available
device capacity, including the batch_size=256 and kv_cache_len=131072
combination; do not rely on the max_tokens limit or collector failure handling
to filter them.

Review comments at @python/aisimulate/collector/sglang/collect_mla_module.py:
- Around line 2784-2795: Remove the max_position_embeddings filter from the
generation path in run_mla_module; enforce the model-owned bound during case
generation instead, so the collector does not drop queued cases for non-memory
reasons.

## Cross-cutting hard rules (apply to every task)

1. **A task stays in its module.** Collector tasks touch `collector/` (+ its
tests) only; generator tasks touch `src/aisimulate/generator/` (+ its
tests) only; SDK tasks do not reach into either. Cross-module contract
changes (e.g. a new perf-data column and its SDK consumer) require explicit
human approval and are never done "while you're at it".

Linked repositories findings

ai-dynamo/dynamo

 • Dynamo pins vLLM 0.32.0, beyond the PR’s stated support range ending at 0.31.0; v0.32 compatibility is not demonstrated by the collector changes. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::pyproject.toml:65-69]
 • Dynamo’s vLLM integration derives KV block sizing from the runtime engine/cache configuration (cache_config.block_size), so the collector’s AISIM_VLLM_ATTENTION_BLOCK_SIZE should remain campaign metadata rather than being treated as a serving-side block-size contract. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::lib/bindings/kvbm/python/kvbm/vllm_integration/connector_leader.py:99-110] [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::components/src/dynamo/vllm/args.py:378-380]

ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

 • The compatibility reference defaults to vLLM 0.24.0, with only selected MLA/KDA family pins at 0.27.0; it does not validate the PR’s vLLM 0.31 implementation. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::collector/framework_manifest.yaml:80-119]
 • Its metadata helper still supplies legacy/private fields _seq_lens_cpu and _num_computed_tokens_cpu, while also populating seq_lens_cpu_upper_bound; this is useful regression coverage for the PR’s version-dependent metadata adapter. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::collector/vllm/utils.py:86-118]
 • Its attention collector fixes page size at 64, obtains the backend-required KV-cache layout, and applies the backend stride order. The PR’s configurable page-size path should preserve these layout/stride requirements. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::collector/vllm/collect_attn.py:94-99] [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::collector/vllm/collect_attn.py:181-203]

Filter the infeasible generation case before strict collection.

The generation grid admits batch_size=256 and kv_cache_len=131072 because 256 * 131072 = 33554432, below generation.max_tokens=37486592. The collector uses two test layers by default. With BF16 KV, the local cache formula gives 2 * (512 * 2 + 64 * 2 + 132) = 2568 bytes per token, or 80.25 GiB for this case before model memory. It cannot fit on an 80 GB GPU.

An OOM returns False from the per-case runner. It does not create a classified per-case failure record. The outer collector sees the missing row and raises failed strict completeness for the whole generation group.

The YAML note makes allocation failures visible, but it does not make strict completeness succeed. Add a generation-time device-capacity filter with counted drops before these cases are queued.

Move the max_position_embeddings generation filter out of the collector run path.

This filter drops queued generation cases for every MLA/DSA model inside run_mla_module. The drop is counted and logged, but it is not a memory-feasibility filter. The collector rules allow only memory-feasibility filtering in collect_*.py ("any other case filtering" is forbidden).

The case-authoring rules route a model-owned limit to a field on the model row, or to a generator constraint, so the generator expands only valid cases. The DSA context path already filters on max_position_embeddings in this file. That precedent does not extend the exception to all generation grids.

Declare the bound in the generator, or get explicit owner approval for this exception. Do not widen the in-collector filter.

As per path instructions: "only generation-time memory feasibility may filter cases, with counted drops."

Remove the max_position_embeddings filter from the generation path in
run_mla_module; enforce the model-owned bound during case generation instead, so
the collector does not drop queued cases for non-memory reasons.

Thanks, Simone. This found real issues, and two of them aren't in #649 yet (see "What to keep"). My main concern is merge order.

Suggestion: land #649 first, then rebase this PR on it.

#649 upgrades the collector to the runtimes behind main's #517 tables: vLLM 0.30.0 (gemm/moe/kda/mhc on 0.31.0 through family pins) and SGLang 0.5.21. Many repairs here are the same version ports, often on the same lines:

 • vLLM: seq_lens_cpu_upper_bound replaces the private _seq_lens_cpu/_num_computed_tokens_cpu; resolve_kv_cache_layout replaces set_kv_cache_layout; the XQA/trtllm-gen suffix on FlashInferTrtllmAPIDecode. #649 also maps both suffixed labels in kernel_source_backends.yaml, which is CodeRabbit's cross-layer finding here.
 • SGLang: resolved server args, the moved act_quant import, the AttentionInputs move, and passing fused_set_kv_buffer_arg by keyword. Thanks for catching that one; #649 now passes it by keyword too.

A trial merge of this head (6b97659) into #649's head (78e42f4) conflicts in six files: collect_mla_module.py (11 hunks), collect_attn.py (5), vllm/utils.py (2), and one each in framework_manifest.yaml, test_dsa_history.py and test_vllm_collect_attn.py.

The two PRs also take different approaches in four places:

 1. Runtime detection. hasattr(ServerArgs, "resolve_once") is also true on 0.5.21 (server_args.py:227 @v0.5.21). Once #649 lands, these branches would select APIs that 0.5.21 doesn't have: sglang.srt.distributed.parallel_state_wrapper is gone, and ModelRunner.__init__ takes no ps. An exact version check would avoid this.
 2. DSA prefill guard. The MeasurementBoundaryError in run_mla_module/_run_prefill keys on the same check. On 0.5.21 it would block all DSA context collection, and main ships about 549k 0.5.21 dsa_context_module rows across six systems. #649 has an open question with Harry: should 0.5.21 DSA prefill be timed eagerly, or should graph-eligible points ≤2048 be refused (the 0.5.14 policy from #405)? Could we settle that once, there?
 3. Page size. AISIM_VLLM_ATTENTION_BLOCK_SIZE (default 64) sets the page through an env var. #649 asks the selected backend instead: framework_kv_block_size mirrors get_preferred_block_size plus select_common_block_size. #649 also dropped similar switches such as AIS_KV_BLOCK_SIZE, because they change rows without leaving a record in the data. Your 0.31 campaign ran at page 16. If that's what the backend picks on its own, the env var isn't needed.
 4. Compatibility ranges. __compat__ uses ranges with != exclusions, and both exclude the release #649 pins (vLLM 0.30.0, SGLang 0.5.21). #649 makes "each collector file targets exactly one framework release" binding.

What to keep after the rebase

 • Batch-52 graph eligibility. I checked this and agree. With padding enabled, can_run_graph admits any bs <= max_bs (decode_cuda_graph_runner.py:714-717 @v0.5.21; 0.5.20 is the same). The default non-speculative buckets are [1,2,4,8,12] + range(16,257,8), so 52 falls between 48 and 56. #649's exact-membership check would time 52 eagerly, so please carry this onto the 0.5.21 code. A follow-up question: serving pads 52 to the 56 graph, but the collector captures an exact-52 graph. Should the row use the padded shape?
 • Coverage expansion, with a cost estimate. The description says neither expanded default grid has been timed. DSA decode grows 62% per geometry and indexer mode, MSA 29%, and vLLM context 26% (54,468 → 68,656). generation.max_tokens goes from 262,144 to 37,486,592 (143×). That budget applies to every MLA/DSA model on the shared SGLang axes, not just GLM AgentX, and the old comment called 256K a memory contract. Please estimate fleet GPU-hours, or scope the new anchors to the models that need them. CodeRabbit's 80 GB OOM case belongs to the same question.
 • vLLM 0.31.0 for attention. Instead of widening __compat__, add a vLLM attention family pin to 0.31.0, as gemm/moe/kda/mhc already have. collect_attn.py then targets a single release, and #666's rows become reproducible from main. The pin moves generation attention too, so it needs an owner decision.
 • SGLang 0.5.20 lane. #649 retires the 0.5.20 model pins. I'd prefer collecting the GLM AgentX decode grid on 0.5.21 with #649's collector. Keeping a 0.5.20 lane is a separate decision we should make together.

CI. The unit shards fail on both architectures: test_dsa_projection_inputs.py::test_native_projection_callback_reaches_phase_workers[*] raises NameError: name '_resolved_server_args' is not defined. That test parses out single functions and runs each one on its own, so the new helper is missing from its namespace.
