Why and what changed

GLM-5.3-Flash FP8 KV on H100/H200 was rejected for every runtime version. SGLang v0.5.22 contains the CUDA TileLang implementation and vLLM v0.32.0 fixes the SM90 FlashInfer plan dtype, so this restriction also rejected working deployments.

Admit Hopper FP8 KV at those release boundaries, retain the older-runtime rejection, and classify that exact build diagnostic as FRAMEWORK_INCOMPATIBLE. Price SGLang's newly admitted QK/PV arithmetic using FP8 tensor-core throughput. Document the required TileLang serving flags and the existing AIC_ALLOW_UNLISTED_VERSIONS=1 opt-in for analytical evaluation of versions outside the packaged query slots.

Review map

  • Risk level: medium.
  • Start with crates/core/src/perfmodel/engine/readiness.rs, then operators/glm53flash.rs and the support-matrix classifier.
  • Public or serialized contract changed: no schema change; runtime-version admission and the known failure category change.
  • Compatibility or rollback concern: older releases retain BF16-only Hopper behavior; unknown version labels and prereleases of the first supported releases remain rejected. No packaged versions or measurement tables are promoted.

Evidence

  • Rust: cargo test -p aisimulate-core glm53 --lib — 37 passed.
  • Python model contract: python/aisimulate/.venv/bin/pytest -c python/aisimulate/pytest.ini python/aisimulate/tests/unit/sdk/models/test_glm53flash.py -q — 144 passed.
  • Matrix/qualification: python/aisimulate/.venv/bin/pytest -c python/aisimulate/pytest.ini python/aisimulate/tests/unit/support_matrix/test_fpe_support_matrix.py python/aisimulate/tests/unit/support_matrix/test_fpe_qualification.py -q — 82 passed.
  • Numerical regression: python/aisimulate/.venv/bin/pytest -c python/aisimulate/pytest.ini crates/core/parity_tests/perfmodel/test_engine_step_parity.py crates/core/parity_tests/perfmodel/test_compile_engine_parity.py -q — 389 passed.
  • Ruff lint/format, cargo fmt --all --check, git diff --check, and python3 scripts/ci/check_packaged_legal_files.py passed.
  • Fast CI / Full CI: passed on current head 5d94f69d0d7543950dc133d9926ac6a0eb33452e; Full CI completed with 54 successful jobs and 2 conditional skips.
  • Nightly-equivalent FPE qualification: all 28 shards and the final gate passed on current head 5d94f69d0d7543950dc133d9926ac6a0eb33452e (31 successful jobs). The four H100/H200 SGLang/vLLM reports contain zero BUILD_FAILED / QUERY_FAILED; all 328 original GLM Hopper old-runtime rejections are FRAMEWORK_INCOMPATIBLE. This verifies FPE qualification, not the complete nightly publication pipeline.
  • CodeRabbit reviewed commit: 3539fee6ab73cd557d882a0cb843e7e46faf8f4f; the backend/minimum pairing finding is addressed in 5d94f69d0d7543950dc133d9926ac6a0eb33452e with two negative regression cases.
  • Codex reviewed commit: 5d94f69d0d7543950dc133d9926ac6a0eb33452e (independent review of the initial change and follow-up).
  • Boundary cases: fixed/older releases, prerelease/unknown labels, H100/H200 and Blackwell, FP8/BF16 identity, missing exact-runtime data, query errors retaining blocking status, and invalid backend/minimum cross-pairs remaining BUILD_FAILED.
  • Expected-value derivation: independent hand calculation of QK/PV FLOPs at controlled BF16/FP8 rates; decode delta 0.0671744 ms and four-token causal prefill delta 0.00032768 ms.
  • Before/after: real public API smoke rejects older releases with the recognized compatibility diagnostic and constructs the supported releases; the documented SOL example executes. Existing numerical regression expectations are unchanged.

Modeling or data provenance

Upstream support: SGLang #42957, merge 9336681310c7a7153c4fbd7c2b9ae62011899014; vLLM #55222, merge c37f86e5721f089a27c8e4358c30e435805fcaab. Immutable source attribution is recorded in both synchronized notices.

This adds analytical capability, not new measured performance or accuracy acceptance. Strict SILICON still requires exact-runtime and exact-KV data. SGLang serving requires FP8 E4M3 plus TileLang for both DSA prefill and decode; DCP > 1 and HiSparse remain outside the modeled path. No new native GPU run was performed in this PR.

🔀 Multi-repo context ai-dynamo/dynamo, ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

ai-dynamo/dynamo

  • H200 GLM recipes enable FP8 KV and DSA but use SGLang 0.5.18, below the PR’s required 0.5.22 minimum. They need a runtime/image update to use the newly admitted path. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::recipes/glm-5.3/README.md:27] [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::recipes/glm-5.3/sglang/agg-h200-agentic/deploy.yaml:13-30] [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::recipes/glm-5.3/sglang/disagg-h200-agentic/deploy.yaml:12-25]

ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

  • The frozen GLM compatibility cases alias GLM-5.3 to GLM-5.2 and cover FP8 model quantization, while the sparse collector remains explicitly pinned to the SGLang 0.5.14 DSA API. It provides no 0.5.22 runtime compatibility reference. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::collector/cases/models/GlmMoeDsaForCausalLM_cases.yaml:134-176] [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::tests/unit/collector/test_sglang_glm5_sparse_0514.py:61-66]
📝 Summary

Risk: Medium

Three areas need the most human attention:

  1. Runtime-version admission at vLLM 0.32.0 and SGLang 0.5.22, including prerelease and unknown-version handling.
  2. FP8 tensor-core pricing for SGLang Hopper latent-attention QK/PV, while preserving existing pricing for other backends and hardware.
  3. The boundary between analytical SOL support and strict SILICON requirements for exact-runtime, exact-KV performance data.

Changes and contracts

  • The readiness check admits FP8 sparse-MLA KV on SM90–SM99 when the backend version meets its minimum. Otherwise, it rejects the configuration. BF16 remains available.
  • The failure classifier maps only the matching build-time diagnostic to FRAMEWORK_INCOMPATIBLE. Query-time failures and changed diagnostics retain generic failure statuses.
  • The operator uses FP8 tensor-core throughput for SGLang FP8 latent attention on SM90–SM99. Other paths retain their existing arithmetic contract.
  • Documentation describes the SGLang TileLang prefill and decode requirements, the AIC_ALLOW_UNLISTED_VERSIONS=1 opt-in, and modeled-path exclusions. The change adds analytical support, not performance measurements. Strict SILICON still requires exact-runtime FP8-KV data.

Evidence and merge readiness

  • The PR description reports 37 Rust GLM tests, 144 Python model-contract tests, 80 support-matrix and qualification tests, and 389 numerical regression tests as passing. It also reports Ruff, formatting, git diff --check, and packaged legal-file checks as passing. These are reported results; the supplied inspection did not independently verify test execution.
  • Fast CI and Full CI were reported as pending. No new native GPU run, full nightly qualification, packaged-version promotion, or measurement-table promotion is reported.
  • Source inspection confirms the Hopper pricing condition and the narrow diagnostic classification. Review findings were not supplied, so review severity counts are unavailable. Technical behavior is supported by the inspected source, but merge readiness remains unconfirmed pending CI and exact-runtime performance evidence for SILICON use.

Hopper FP8 KV now has backend-specific minimum versions, SGLang-specific FP8 attention modeling, and updated SDK tests and support-matrix classification. Documentation describes runtime requirements and distinguishes analytical modeling from exact-runtime performance-data coverage.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "fix: enable GLM-5.3-Flash Hopper FP8 KV on supported runtimes" names the main behavior change: Hopper FP8 KV is admitted on the runtime versions that support it. The changeset admits FP8 KV for vLLM 0.32.0 and SGLang 0.5.22 and rejects older runtimes, so the title matches the change. The title follows the state-the-behavior guidance and avoids vague terms.

Full details: Cross-Layer Contract

Explanation

The changed runtime and KV contract is traced across the layers. Rust gates SM90 FP8 KV by backend-specific PEP 440 minimums and applies the gate during engine construction (readiness.rs:101-128, runtime.rs:445-448). Existing public serialization maps backend_version and kvcache_quant_mode into the engine configuration (python.rs:255-289, 402-420). The operator model changes only SGLang Hopper latent QK/PV pricing (glm53flash.rs:494-515), with decode/prefill and vLLM/Blackwell regression coverage. Documentation records runtime requirements, flags, SOL behavior, and exact-runtime SILICON limits. The support-matrix classifier now pairs each backend with its own minimum through the backreference and explicit pair check (fpe_support_matrix.py:507-520), and tests cover both valid pairs and both cross-backend negative pairs (test_fpe_support_matrix.py:360-379). Immutable upstream revisions provide the stated compatibility evidence. No changed schema field or output lacks a traced consumer. Prior failure addressed: The classifier now enforces paired groups: vllm only accepts 0.32.0 and sglang only accepts 0.5.22. Added tests reject vllm with 0.5.22 and sglang with 0.32.0 while retaining stage, type, and extra-text checks.

Full details: Modeling And Data Evidence

Explanation

The PR supplies the required provenance and reproducible model evidence. The Rust operator cites the exact SGLang TileLang revision and file, while the synchronized notices describe the adaptation and state that no kernel or performance data is vendored. The new arithmetic test uses controlled BF16/FP8 rates, documents the FLOP counts and expected decode/prefill deltas, and compares the changed SGLang SM90 path with unchanged SGLang SM100 and vLLM SM90 paths. The Python tests also preserve exact latency goldens and verify FP8/BF16 identity, runtime boundaries, and exact-runtime SILICON fallback behavior. The diff changes no performance-data tables and explicitly documents that the new path is analytical only.

Full details: Compatibility Boundaries

Explanation

The compatibility boundary is synchronized. Rust uses backend-specific minimums: vLLM 0.32.0 and SGLang 0.5.22 in readiness.rs:110-120. Python now enforces the same backend/minimum pairing with a regex backreference and exact pair check in fpe_support_matrix.py:507-520; tests cover both cross-paired diagnostics and preserve build-stage, exception-type, and complete-message checks. No schema, binding, manifest, or data-file paths changed. The existing one-wheel/one-crate setup remains: pyproject.toml:104-122 builds from crates/core/Cargo.toml, and Cargo.toml:4-8 has one workspace crate. The changed code adds no Dynamo dependency or import. Documentation states the same version boundaries and defaults in docs/glm53flash-native-contract.md:174-183 and docs/perf-model/support-matrix.md:59-67. Prior failure addressed: fpe_support_matrix.py:509-520 now ties the captured backend to its minimum through \1 and accepts only (vllm, 0.32.0) or (sglang, 0.5.22); tests at test_fpe_support_matrix.py:357-376 reject both cross-paired diagnostics.

Full details: Review Evidence

Explanation

The description lists commands with results for Rust, Python, support-matrix, parity, lint, and formatting checks. It reports negative and boundary cases, including older and supported runtime versions, prereleases, unknown labels, GPU generations, KV identities, missing data, and query errors. It separates local test results, parity results, public-API smoke evidence, and the absence of native-GPU or nightly production qualification. Fast CI and Full CI are marked pending, not cited as completed evidence. The PR diff changes no workflow files and does not cite inactive nested workflows as hosted CI evidence.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description follows the repository template and covers the change, review map, compatibility risks, test commands and results, boundary cases, numerical derivation, provenance, and tracking. It does not list a closing issue, but no completed issue is identified and this is non-critical.

## Performance Model Changes

Before changing a performance model, its configuration, or a caller in Rust,
Python, CLI, Sweeper, Replay, or Planner, MUST read and follow
[`perfmodel-api.md`](python/aisimulate/.claude/rules/perfmodel-api.md).
This includes new features and configuration migrations.

Before adding code or other content copied, adapted, translated, or
substantially derived from an external project, MUST:

- Add an entry to the root `THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md` identifying the derived
files, upstream source and immutable revision, copyright owner, applicable
  license, and whether the files were modified. The root notice is canonical;
keep `python/aisimulate/THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md` byte-identical so the notice
is included in Python distributions. Run
`python3 scripts/ci/check_packaged_legal_files.py` after either copy changes.

ai-dynamo/dynamo

  • GLM-5.3 recipes use SGLang 0.5.18. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::recipes/glm-5.3/README.md:27]
  • H200 aggregate deployment enables FP8 KV and DSA attention on that image. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::recipes/glm-5.3/sglang/agg-h200-agentic/deploy.yaml:13-30] [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::recipes/glm-5.3/sglang/agg-h200-agentic/deploy.yaml:67-68]
  • H200 disaggregated prefill and decode configurations likewise enable FP8 KV and DSA. [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::recipes/glm-5.3/sglang/disagg-h200-agentic/deploy.yaml:12-28] [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::recipes/glm-5.3/sglang/disagg-h200-agentic/deploy.yaml:48-60] [::ai-dynamo/dynamo::recipes/glm-5.3/sglang/disagg-h200-agentic/deploy.yaml:83-90]

These downstream recipes request the capability admitted by this PR but remain pinned below the new SGLang 0.5.22 minimum.

ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator

  • The frozen compatibility model aliases GLM-5.3 to GLM-5.2 and separates BF16, fp8_block, and NVFP4 model quantization modes. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::collector/cases/models/GlmMoeDsaForCausalLM_cases.yaml:134-176]
  • Its sparse GLM collector and tests are explicitly tied to the SGLang 0.5.14 DSA API. [::ai-dynamo/aiconfigurator::tests/unit/collector/test_sglang_glm5_sparse_0514.py:61-66]

This reference contains no corresponding 0.5.22 runtime-gate update or exact-runtime FP8-KV coverage.

351-351: 🎯 Functional Correctness

Keep the assertion unchanged.

The provenance config retains None for an omitted KV request. The native engine may apply FP8 internally, but that does not rewrite the diagnostic request value. The proposed assertion change is not needed.

Reviewed 3539fee6 with independent checks of upstream release boundaries, FP8 QK/PV arithmetic, and native diagnostic classification. No blocking findings. Locally ran 613 model, support-matrix and numerical-parity tests against this head's CI-built wheel; all passed. Exact-head Hopper FPE artifacts also show the original 96 plans / 328 blocking rows correctly classified as incompatible, without fabricating PASS results.

The non-blocking backend/minimum pairing hardening remains noted in the existing thread. No GPU latency-accuracy or completed nightly-publication claim is implied by this approval.
