Review
BLOCKING: one medium-severity correctness issue in finite-mode terminal failure handling; please validate the last background child's outcome before closing its replay root. Existing CodeRabbit comments are not repeated here, and the phased rollout's deferred typed-input extensions are respected.
Verified correct
- Real CLI + mock-server replay completed all 21 fixture requests exactly once at concurrency 2, including nested/background descendants, with successful EOF exports.
- Focused test runs passed: 68 finite tests, 12 component tests, 605 replay/worker regressions, and 436 routing/export tests (55 skipped).
- CLI routing/docs and delayed-body-EOF coverage checked. Multinode Kubernetes behavior was checked through source/unit tests, not a live cluster.
🤖 The agent stayed until every branch checked out.

Blocking: periodic finite clock-refresh failures do not abort the run, and the existing final-child failure ordering remains unresolved (AIP-1401). Additional evidence for the existing terminal-child thread: simulated cancelled/missing-EOF final-child returns produce fatal=None finished=True and admit the next root; these are callback-boundary probes, not new HTTP/CLI reproductions. Root-once admission/drain, captured-event deadlines, actual body EOF, and steady-state regressions checked out in focused tests; multinode behavior was not exercised live.
Omitted — already discussed
- Root-refill error propagation: existing comment.
- Startup clock-probe retry budget: existing comment.
- Original pre-start error preservation: existing comment.
- Original terminal-child HTTP-error finding: existing comment; only supplemental simulated-message evidence is added above.
🤖 Cleared to debrief after the last branch checks out.

I reviewed this PR at cb0c0f81a against main (merge-base d66fc0b83). Successful replay drains all 21 fixture requests, including background descendants, but two correctness gaps block merging: final-child cleanup still sends the next root before abort (src/aiperf/credit/callback_handler.py:487-515, additional proof in the existing thread), and clock calibration mixes controller frames (src/aiperf/credit/sticky_router.py:934), making dependent deadlines early. Stop new issuance before failure cleanup and use one controller clock frame for calibration and deadlines.
Verified
- Real CLI plus local HTTP/SSE server completed 21 requests once; holding the body open after
[DONE]put EOF at least 100.056 ms after the last response, without changing request-end semantics. - Independently reran the failed-child CLI: exit 1, six HTTP requests, five exported records; the sixth belongs to the next root. A controlled-clock probe with actual startup ordering retained calibration while mapping the root and its deadline 100 ms early; this was not a live multinode test.
- Focused tests passed: 134 finite/callback tests and 818 adjacent regressions (62 skipped).
Resolved while reviewing
- The original success-exit symptom is fixed by the callback-ordering change; the remaining concern is newly admitted traffic after failure.
- Verified test-rig extraction and write-only state removal.
Deferred to scope
- Typed-input extensions remain outside this foundational rollout, as described in the PR and AIP-1401.
Raised by others
- Root-refill error propagation, startup retry budget, and original error preservation remain in their existing threads.
- Worker FAILED-state cancellation remains, but the service-error publication already aborts profiling; the remaining effect is worker-state reporting, not failure to abort.
🤖 Keeping every replay on the same agent timeline.

412-413: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | 💤 Low valueFinite replay drops the transport callbacks on the cancellation path.
post_requestpassestransport_start_callbackandtransport_eof_callbackto_request_with_cancellation. That method has no parameters with these names, so they go into**kwargs. It then passes**kwargsto_request, which does accept them. The callbacks therefore reach_requestin practice. The signature hides this contract, and the cancellation path does not forward the callbacks explicitly. Finite replay rejects request cancellation, so this path is not used today. Declare the two parameters on_request_with_cancellationand forward them explicitly, so the contract is visible.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

I reviewed this PR at d76ddde2c against main (merge-base bfa5ab1d4). The earlier request for changes from @ajcasagrande remains on record; its controller-frame and final-child admission fixes now verify. Local finite replay still translates a shared monotonic clock through independently sampled wall anchors, allowing dependent requests to start early; src/aiperf/workers/worker.py:1676 needs a same-host monotonic path.
Verified
- Real multiprocess CLI/HTTP replay completed all 21 fixture requests once; delayed body EOF was at least 99.837 ms after the last SSE event, without changing request-end semantics.
- The final-background-child HTTP-500 reproduction now exits 1 after five requests, with no next-root traffic; 133 focused tests, 750 adjacent regressions (55 skipped) and 12 component tests passed. No live multinode Kubernetes run was performed.
Resolved while reviewing
- Verified the fatal-before-cleanup/admission guards, shared controller frame, and root-refill exception wrapper.
Deferred to scope
- The typed-input adapter remains outside this foundational rollout, as described in the PR and AIP-1401.
Raised by others
- Startup retry budgeting and original error preservation remain unaddressed in their existing threads.
- Worker FAILED-state reporting remains unaddressed: the real bounded-shutdown probe ends
stopped, notfailed; service-error publication still aborts profiling.

I reviewed this PR at b205aceaa against main (merge-base c7968303a). Finite replay drains the five fixture roots and all descendants, and exports body EOF separately from the last SSE event. @ajcasagrande’s earlier request for changes remains on record; its local-clock and final-child-admission fixes now verify, while the existing startup-probe and worker-status threads remain open.
Verified
- Real multiprocess CLI against the in-repo mock server: 21 distinct requests, all HTTP 200. Holding the final body open put exported EOF 99.35–100.98 ms after the last SSE event; all 16 nonroot timestamp floors held.
- 145 focused tests and 1,596 adjacent regressions passed (62 skipped). Two separately exercised idle-watchdog tests also fail on the base revision. No live multinode Kubernetes run was performed.
Resolved while reviewing
- Verified the direct local performance-timestamp fix at both start and EOF.
- Verified iterative graph traversal and restored steady-state clock-probe retries.
Deferred to scope
- The typed-input adapter remains outside this foundational rollout, as described in the PR and AIP-1401.
Raised by others
- Startup retry budgeting and original error preservation remain in their existing threads.
- Final worker-state reporting remains separate from the verified service-error run-abort path.
🤖 Replay agents check out only after their last assignment.

I reviewed this PR at fad510346 against main (merge-base 293dac9d0). Whole-tree drain and separate body-EOF timing now hold in the local replay; the remaining feedback is nonblocking. The earlier request for changes from ajcasagrande remains on record, but its clock-frame and failed-child-admission blockers verify as fixed.
Verified
- Real multiprocess CLI plus local HTTP/SSE server replayed all five roots and 21 distinct requests; all 16 nonroot timestamp floors held with zero early tolerance. Exported EOF followed the last SSE event by at least 100.064 ms.
- 519 focused tests, seven component tests, and 832 adjacent regressions passed. No live multinode Kubernetes run was performed.
Resolved while reviewing
- Verified the local performance-clock fix and fatal-before-cleanup admission guards against current code and regressions.
Deferred to scope
- Typed-input extensions remain outside this foundational rollout, per the PR and AIP-1401.
Raised by others
- Startup retry budgeting, original-error preservation, and final worker-state reporting remain nonblocking concerns in their existing threads; calibration-loss service-error publication still aborts the run.
🤖 The agent stays until every descendant completes its assignment.

Low: Finite admission enumerates metadata directly, so --dataset-sampling-strategy shuffle|random never reaches root selection/order; the sampler supplied by phase_orchestrator.py:196 is unused here. This changes which roots overlap without telling the user their requested sampling policy is inactive. Honor an appropriate once-only ordering, or reject/document incompatible sampling choices while preserving one execution per root.
🤖 The travel agent checks the requested departure order.

Nit: Move _profiling_phase_t0_offset_ms() below this finite early return: only the steady-state path uses its result. The _execute_profiling docstring also describes only steady-state trajectory resumption.
🤖 Finite assignments need their own briefing.

Nit: Compute the successful-EOF predicate once instead of repeating context.error is None and not context.cancelled for four fields. The identical EOF-reset blocks at worker.py:1954–1959 and :2274–2279 could likewise share a small helper.
🤖 One clearance check covers the whole EOF dossier.

Nit: Update this method's docstring and timeout warning for finite mode: the startup probe is awaited before readiness (worker.py:1061), and missing calibration is fatal, rather than merely diagnostic. The current warning still says it is announcing readiness without a baseline RTT.
🤖 The agent waits for clearance before announcing readiness.

Nit: Add clock_offset_spread_ns to the CreditReturn attributes docstring alongside the other new EOF/clock fields.

Add a finite lifecycle for agentic replay by using the args :
--agentic-replay-lifecycle finite # default STEADY_STATEit admits each selected root trace once, keeps the configured concurrency available while unadmitted roots remain, and stops recycling roots after all selected roots have been admitted, the scheduler and gates remain active until every admitted root and its subagents have drained.
This address the part of #1458.

here this sequence shows the finite iteration workflow. Each selected root trace and all of its subagents are executed as a single session tree until that entire tree drains, iterating through each finite trace until complete!

The lifecycle policy sits cleanly above root admission: the existing steady-state lifecycle retains its continuous recycling behavior, while finite replay admits each selected root once without recycling. I have run all existing agentic replay test cases and verified that all of them passed cleanly!
Replay coordination tracks root start times, request dispatch/start events, completion and end-of-stream events, typed dependencies, root-relative timing floors, and pending requests. The transport reports dispatch and completion events back to the sticky router so scheduling can use each request's start time and stream EOF.
Response EOF is observed by the HTTP transport; passing it through the credit-return path is required for completion tracking and releasing downstream dependent turns
The finite run used five Weka trace files. Together they contain five root traces and 21 inference requests, including nested subagent requests.

and also id love to get feedback on this core design, the barrier coordinator, and the clock-sync integration first before layering on further extensions!
