Part of the vps2 durable per-view state series — tracked in fork issue 41 (cross-repo: the displayed vs-main diff includes the F1a content this unit branches from until F1a merges).

Issue (created at PR-open time): #1549

What this unit lands at this head

Fix unit F1b (2/3 of the F1 split). F1a landed per-view identity, the durable viewStates pipeline, and the in-memory viewLocalState buffer, but getState() still read every field straight from the shared ContextProxy — so a webview reporting state ignored its own hydrated per-view selections. This PR:

  1. getState() merge — mergedStateValues = { ...contextProxy.getValues(), ...viewLocalState }; every per-view-capable field (mode, currentApiConfigName, apiConfiguration, modeApiConfigs) is served off the merge: a view-local selection beats the shared global value, unset fields fall back to the shared value with existing defaults untouched. apiConfiguration re-merges over the shared profile settings so the flat provider-settings mutation path stays coherent. The read path stays side-effect free.
  2. F1a shared-code fixes ported in (this round): temporary-id ownership (wroteUnderTemporaryViewStateId — first write claims the slot, load and re-key only touch entries this instance authored, authorship recorded only after the durable write lands), shared-write rollback in setValue / setValues when per-view persistence fails, and the null-prototype copy in getPersistedViewStates.
  3. Spec coverage — the getState-merging and local-state-isolation describes, the ported F1a regression tests (ownership, rollback), and the default-surface pinning tests.

The webview launch-identity wiring that registers stable ids (F1c) lands in the follow-up.

Content source

Hand-ported from CS e9a44b2fa (fork PR 43 head): the getState merge hunks and the getState-merging spec describes; the F1a snapshot on this branch carries the same review-round fixes as the F1a PR head (ported this round, with two tests adapted to the ownership semantics).

Budget

a+d vs merge-base 89a90f513: 5435 (+5025/−410) — includes the shared F1a content until F1a merges; the F1b-specific delta is the getState() region in ClineProvider.ts (~104 executable lines) plus spec coverage. Over the 400 soft budget; split decision belongs to maintainers.

How to test

  • pnpm --dir src exec vitest run core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.sticky-mode.spec.ts activate/__tests__/registerCommands.spec.ts
  • Manual: two views with different modes; the webview of each view reports its own mode/profile in state messages instead of the shared selection.

Verification numbers

  • eslint --max-warnings=0 on all changed files: pass; suppression counts never increased (ClineProvider.spec.ts 196→194 re-measured, ClineProvider.ts 7, sticky-mode.spec.ts 26, registerCommands.ts 1).
  • vitest: ClineProvider.spec + sticky-mode.spec + registerCommands.spec 362 pass; sticky-profile + taskHistory + ContextProxy + importExport specs 191 pass (3 ProviderSettingsManager migration tests fail locally only — they read a types constant the stale local types build lacks; CI builds types from source).
  • tsc --noEmit: no new real errors (all local errors are the stale-types class; CI builds types from source).
  • Negative control on the ported ownership fix: reverting the first-write claim reddens exactly the ported regression test; restored byte-exact (sha256 match).
  • prettier --check on the full merge-ref tree (LF-normalized): pass.
  • mutation-diff advisory: extension package 638 changed executable lines (limit 500) — inherited from the shared F1a content on this branch, not new in this unit; maintainer decision.

Updated this round

  • Merged upstream/main (conflicts in registerCommands.ts, ClineProvider.ts, and both spec fixtures resolved keeping both sides; constructor call sites gained the webviewFocusTracker argument).
  • Ported the F1a review-round fixes into the shared per-view code (ownership, authorship-after-persistence, setter rollback, null-prototype map) with the regression tests; adapted two pre-existing tests to the ownership semantics (register a stable id before forcing a load failure; author the temporary entry through the real write path before re-key).
  • eslint-suppressions re-measured; PR body rewritten.

Pre-merge ERROR-row pre-check (head 8c9c55f)

  • Security Boundaries / view-state id rows: addressed at 8c9c55f. setViewStateId now rejects non-string ids (crafted postMessage), bounds the key length (MAX_VIEW_STATE_ID_LENGTH), and refuses ids already owned by another live instance; a refused view stays on its temporary id against shared state. Regression tests: non-string, oversized, claimed-by-another-view. Negative controls: disabling the ownership check reddens exactly the claim test; widening the length bound reddens exactly the oversized test; restores byte-exact (hash match).
  • Persistence Integrity setValues/setValue ordering rows: verified already addressed by the pushed code: _saveViewLocalStateFromMutation persists the non-secret subset before updating the buffer; the re-key is a single queued write (no delete-then-write window; authorship clears only after the write lands); the mutation hook keeps the buffer synced across setValue/setValues and profile upsert/activation/deletion.
  • Proofs at 8c9c55f: sticky-mode 33/33; eslint --max-warnings=0 clean; tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines; prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.
  • Non-activating saves (upsertProviderProfile with activate=false, and the zoo-gateway callback's non-active path) rewrote the profile on disk but left pinned views serving the pre-save snapshot; the non-activating branch now refreshes pinned sibling views (and this view when it holds the pin), and the callback routes through upsertProviderProfile so the refresh cannot be forgotten.
  • getState() no longer spreads the pinned overlay over the shared provider settings (a key the profile never defined leaked in from the shared profile: model id, region, tuning). The overlay is a complete snapshot: used in place, with only apiProvider falling back to shared state.
  • Regression tests: "refreshes views pinned to a profile saved without activation"; "does not leak shared provider keys into a pinned view's api configuration; the zoo-gateway callback test asserts the upsert path.
  • Negative controls: dropping the else-branch refresh reddens exactly the refresh test, reverting the merge semantics reddens exactly the leak test; restores byte-exact (hash match).
  • Proofs at e0e540e: ClineProvider.spec green, sticky-mode and webviewMessageHandler green, eslint --max-warnings=0 clean, tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines, prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.

Follow-up: overlay read from the view buffer (required-lane fix)

The previous round's overlay-completeness change read the overlay from the merged state values, which also carry the raw apiConfiguration state key. That key is a partial patch written by shared-store paths, not a view snapshot: with no overlay present and the raw key partial, getState() served only the partial object and dropped the shared provider settings the previous merge produced (the parallel-mode activation tests caught exactly this - the activated profile's model id vanished; required lane red on the units carrying that spec). The overlay is now read from the view buffer itself, where a present value is by contract a complete profile and an absent one means the shared store serves the settings.

Proofs: ClineProvider.parallelMode.spec green where present (the six synchronization tests that regressed), ClineProvider.spec green including the overlay-completeness tests, sticky-mode and webviewMessageHandler green; negative control: reverting the overlay to a shallow merge over the shared settings still reddens exactly the leak test; restores byte-exact (hash match); eslint --max-warnings=0 clean; tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines; prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.

Follow-up: active task handlers rebuilt on non-activating saves (head 08af5cb)

A review round on the view-identity unit found that the non-activating-save refresh updated pinned views' buffers but not their active tasks' API handlers, and the posted state prefers the task's own apiConfiguration: a conversation running in a view pinned to the saved profile kept sending the old token (e.g. after the Zoo Gateway callback rotated it) even though the view's buffer had caught up. The refresh now rebuilds the affected tasks' handlers in the pinned views, and the non-activating branch rebuilds this view's own handler when it holds the pin.

Proofs: ClineProvider.spec green (the pinned-sibling refresh test now asserts the active task's handler is rebuilt with the saved settings, not just the private buffer); negative control: dropping the rebuild from the refresh reddens exactly that assertion, restores byte-exact (hash match); parallelMode/sticky-mode/webviewMessageHandler green; eslint --max-warnings=0 clean; tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines; prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.

Follow-up: test-quality round from the review (head ef73863)

The review round on the api-wiring unit named four test-quality issues; the ones present in this unit are fixed here: the viewStates describe block moved out of the alwaysDenyUnapprovedCommands block (test names carried the wrong subject), the prune test's toBeDefined() survival checks replaced with exact-shape toEqual assertions (they pass even if pruning strips fields), the stale-temporary-entry test's fixed 10 ms wait replaced with awaiting the load itself (the negative assertion could pass vacuously on a slow load), and the readiness-cancel test's fake timers restored in a finally block (a failed assertion left fake timers active and hung a later real-timer test).

Proofs: global-settings 9/9 where present, ClineProvider.spec green, sticky-mode green where present, api-task-control green where present; negative controls: pruning that strips updatedAt reddens exactly the prune test, a loadViewState that adopts the unowned temporary-id entry reddens exactly the stale-entry test, restores byte-exact (hash match); eslint --max-warnings=0 clean (src and types); prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.

Follow-up: review-round fixes from the series (head 6efdad3)

A review round on the mode-profile-writes unit found that the profile-deletion re-pin updated each sibling view's buffer but not its running task: the posted state prefers the task's own apiConfiguration, so a conversation in a view pinned to the deleted profile kept sending the deleted profile's settings. The re-pin now rebuilds the sibling's API handler with the replacement's settings and re-points the task's sticky profile name, mirroring the activation path.

Proofs: ClineProvider.spec and sticky-mode green; eslint --max-warnings=0 clean; tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines; prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED. The rebuild's negative control (dropping it reddens exactly the sibling re-pin test, byte-exact restore) runs in the units that own that test.

Updated this round (CodeRabbit follow-up, head 50aa367)

  • Non-activating profile saves no longer force-rebuild the API handler of a view whose active task follows a different sticky profile: both rebuild sites are guarded by taskApiConfigName === saved profile; pinned-view overlays still refresh. Regression tests cover both sites (negative control: removing either guard reddens exactly its test).
  • Test hygiene: prune assertions compare full kept entries; the two re-key storage tests seed viewStates through the durable write path so their assertions can fail.
  • Verified: ClineProvider.spec 285 green, sticky-mode 33 green, eslint --max-warnings=0 clean, tsc real=0, prettier clean.

Updated this round (CodeRabbit follow-up 2, head 66f5945)

  • Deleted-profile re-pin: the forced task-handler rebuild and the sticky-name rewrite now require taskApiConfigName === deleted profile (the view-buffer re-pin stays unconditional), so a pinned view whose task follows another sticky profile keeps its conversation's settings and persisted profile name. Regression test included (negative control: removing the guard reddens exactly that test).
  • Verified: ClineProvider.spec 286 green, sticky-mode 33 green, eslint --max-warnings=0 clean, tsc real=0, prettier clean.

Stryker suppression comments removed

Per the AGENTS.md policy (never add Stryker directives; remove them when a file is touched), all // Stryker disable directives were dropped from this PR. Equivalence rationale for the removed suppressions:

  • Stryker disable next-line ConditionalExpression: defensive clobber guard, unreachable per the ordering argument above.
  • Stryker disable next-line StringLiteral: setPanel branches only on type === "sidebar", so any other literal routes to the identical tab-ref assignment
  • Stryker disable next-line StringLiteral: setPanel only distinguishes "sidebar"; any other value routes to the tab-ref assignment

Row-9 update (head df62613)

  • Activation writes from the stored record: upsertProviderProfile reads the saved profile back after saveConfig and builds the shared provider-settings write, sibling refresh, view overlay and task-handler rebuild from the normalized record, so raw webview fields the profile schema strips cannot enter durable state (CR Security Boundaries).
  • Clear/re-point cache rollback: clearPersistedViewState and repointPersistedViewStates restore the in-memory viewStates cache to the value durable storage actually holds when the durable write rejects, before rethrowing (CR Persistence Integrity).
  • Activation rollback completeness: the pre-activation snapshot now captures the exact durable viewStates map and the rollback restores it through the serialized queue, so a sibling entry evicted by the activation's own pruning is not lost (CR Persistence Integrity).
  • Deletion re-points closed views: deleteProviderProfile now calls repointPersistedViewStates so disposed views' durable pins follow the surviving profile (CR Persistence Integrity).

Verification: new tests are focused negative controls (reverting each guard reddens exactly the matching test); ClineProvider.spec, webviewMessageHandler.spec spot-checks, api specs, spec-inclusive tsc --noEmit, eslint --max-warnings=0 (suppression counts unchanged) and prettier all green on this head.

Upstream refresh (head df62613)

Merged the current upstream/main (merge commit; the row-9 fix commit is unchanged and is the first parent) to clear the review gate's mergeability hold. Upstream refactored upsertProviderProfile into a new persistProviderProfile method and added a runToCompletion queue option; this unit's transactional body was ported into the new method unchanged and upstream's Promise.allSettled activation fix was adopted in it. ClineProvider.spec, webviewMessageHandler.spec, tsc --noEmit, eslint (suppression counts unchanged) and prettier re-verified green at this head. The first refreshed head's windows unit-test lane caught that upstream's new updateProfileModel tests in ClineProvider.apiHandlerRebuild.spec.ts mock the settings manager with a static getProfile, which starves the post-save read-back; the mock now repoints getProfile at what saveConfig wrote (the real manager's behavior), and the file's 38 tests pass locally alongside the rest of the verification set.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added dedicated Plus, Settings, Marketplace, and History controls for editor tabs.
    • Saves each view’s mode, provider profile, and API configuration separately, and restores selections across reloads.
    • Reuses an existing editor tab when available instead of creating duplicates during overlapping actions.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Routes commands to the intended sidebar or editor tab and handles unavailable or closed tabs.
    • Keeps view-specific selections out of settings exports and imports while preserving local selections.
    • Preserves view selections when provider profiles are renamed and improves recovery from profile errors and interrupted mode changes.

The change adds persisted per-view selections and excludes them from settings transfer. It adds tab-specific commands and provider routing. It also updates mode switching, history restoration, profile handling, and tab-panel lifecycle behavior.

Several per-view state edge cases remain. A mode switch that times out can still change the mode while reporting failure. A failed profile deletion can leave mode-to-profile mappings pointing at a missing id. Resolve or explicitly accept these before merging.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to cd903

Per-view selections affect which service receives task data, but a view’s profile label can diverge from its effective connection settings. Resetting settings can also leave other open views holding usable cached credentials. The demonstrated scope is the extension’s local views and configured services, not a new remote or cross-tenant authority boundary.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: A view’s pinned profile identity is not bound to its effective API configuration. Activation and upsert persist the local profile name but clear the API configuration overlay. After another view activates a different profile, the first view still reports its own profile name while new tasks consume the other profile’s shared connection settings. Unlike the base, identity and configuration no longer follow the same shared selection. This can route task data to an unintended configured service. Durable-write failures can additionally leave the old pin alongside newly committed shared settings.
  • Medium · security · inferred: Resetting shared settings invalidates only the initiating view’s local cache. Another live view that hydrated a profile can retain its API configuration, including credentials, after shared state and stored profiles are reset. Because the merged read gives that overlay precedence and task creation consumes it, new tasks in that sibling view can continue using pre-reset credentials. The base lacked this additional cached configuration path; existing running-task credential retention is not attributed to this PR.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The supported concerns affect live views sharing an extension settings/profile context and tasks using their configured API services. They can change effective data destinations or retain credentials locally. No new webview-controlled cross-view identity adoption or cross-tenant authority was demonstrated at this head.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — Ordinary profile selection in a sibling view can change the shared API configuration while another view retains a different profile label. Starting a task in that first view consumes the changed configuration. This supports unintended-service exposure, not a demonstrated unauthenticated attacker or verified policy bypass.
  • inferred — A sibling with hydrated credentials can retain them through another view’s global reset and supply them to a subsequently created task. Clearing the shared store is counterevidence against durable secret retention, but does not invalidate that live sibling’s overlay.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Task creation retains organization allow-list validation before constructing a Task owned by the receiving provider. Panel lookup uses the actual VS Code view object. These controls limit the supported concerns but do not establish consistency between a profile label, cached credentials, and effective connection settings.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Hydration rejects superseded identities and preserves fields changed during asynchronous loading. Failed persistence does not poison the shared write queue, and mode switching attempts shared-state rollback on durable failure. These controls do not reconcile partially committed profile transitions or invalidate sibling caches during reset.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Define one coherent per-view profile/configuration commit and explicit reconciliation after partial failure. Global credential reset should invalidate every live view’s configuration cache before new tasks can consume it.
  • proposed — Before wiring stable webview identity adoption, bind identity to the owning view and require collision-free identifiers rather than treating syntax normalization as ownership validation. This is a follow-up design safeguard, not an observed reachable vulnerability in the reviewed head.

Explanation

The description is detailed, relevant, and explains the implementation, scope, review considerations, and test results. It identifies issue references and includes repeatable test commands, although it does not reproduce every template heading or checklist item.

Full details: Security Boundaries

Explanation

The prior secret-boundary defect is addressed. persistProviderProfile now uses only the post-save getProfile record, and a read-back failure restores the manager record and throws before shared settings, sibling overlays, or task configuration receive data (ClineProvider.ts:2932-2955). ProviderSettingsManager.saveConfig applies the discriminated provider schema before storage (ProviderSettingsManager.ts:439-450). Regression tests cover read-back failure and removal of cross-provider fields (ClineProvider.spec.ts:2822-2870, 3726-3764). No other changed path shows a concrete secret/PII leak, unvalidated execution, or approval/allowlist bypass. Prior failure addressed: The raw-payload fallback was removed. Read-back failure now compensates the saved record and throws before activation writes; tests cover this path and normalized cross-provider filtering.

Full details: Lifecycle Resource Cleanup

Explanation

No changed lifecycle path meets the failure condition. The prior mode-switch concern is addressed: handleModeSwitch uses { runToCompletion: true } at ClineProvider.ts:2345-2351, and the queue advances from run at :403, so a timeout cannot overlap the nested activation or compensation. Tab creation also shares one in-flight promise and clears it after settlement (registerCommands.ts:296-325), while stale disposal clears the reference only when it still targets that panel (:419-424). Disposal cancels the throttled state timer (ClineProvider.ts:1452) and fire-and-forget webview posts attach rejection handling (:2097-2105). Prior failure addressed: handleModeSwitch now sets runToCompletion: true, and the mutation queue uses run rather than the timeout-bounded caller result. The nested activation therefore keeps queue ownership until all work settles.

Full details: Persistence Integrity

Explanation

The changed deletion rollback can corrupt profile identity. deleteProviderProfile() snapshots the record, deletes it, and on a later persistence failure calls saveConfig() with previousRecord after removing id (src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:3222-3225). ProviderSettingsManager.saveConfig() generates a new ID when the deleted record no longer exists and the input has no ID (src/core/config/ProviderSettingsManager.ts:435-450). deleteConfig() leaves modeApiConfigs pointing to the old ID (ProviderSettingsManager.ts:537-551), while the restored listApiConfigMeta also contains the old ID. If the list write fails after deletion, the profile is restored under a new ID, so persisted metadata and mode mappings reference a different record. The new failure test checks only restored settings, not identity or mode mappings. In addition, the pre-delete getProfile() catch treats any read failure as an absent record (ClineProvider.ts:3089-3095), which can skip manager compensation after a successful delete.

Resolution

Restore the manager record with its original id, or add an atomic manager-level restore that preserves the record and all manager-owned mappings. Do not treat arbitrary getProfile() errors as a missing record; distinguish typed not-found from storage failures and abort before deletion on snapshot failure. Add failure-injection tests that fail after deleteConfig() and assert the original profile ID, listApiConfigMeta, and every affected modeApiConfigs mapping are restored.

Full details: Regression Evidence

Explanation

The prior regression remains unresolved. The changed postMessageToWebview catch logs [postMessageToWebview] dropped message type=... and either Error.message or String(error) at src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:2097-2103. The focused test at src/core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts:1314-1324 only uses an Error rejection and checks that the method resolves. It does not flush the asynchronous catch or assert appendLine, and no focused test covers a non-Error rejection.

Resolution

Update the focused provider tests to reject webview.postMessage, flush the asynchronous catch, and assert mockOutputChannel.appendLine contains the message type and Error.message. Add a separate test for a non-Error rejection and assert the logged String(error) value.

test to verify the restored mode through the public state returned by
getState(), rather than only checking provider["viewLocalState"].mode. Remove
the stale comment and preserve the expected "architect" value.

In `@src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts`:
- Around line 3186-3188: Update upsertProviderProfile,
activateProviderProfileUnlocked, and deleteProviderProfile so provider-profile
mutations also synchronize viewLocalState, routing writes through the provider
wrappers or invoking _saveViewLocalStateFromMutation with the replacement
profile name and settings. Ensure getState reflects profile switches and
deletions for views pinned to a prior profile.

In `@src/package.json`:
- Around line 98-117: Add commandPalette menu contributions for
zoo-code.plusButtonClickedInTab, zoo-code.settingsButtonClickedInTab,
zoo-code.marketplaceButtonClickedInTab, and zoo-code.historyButtonClickedInTab,
each gated by activeWebviewPanelId == zoo-code.TabPanelProvider, so these
tab-only commands are hidden outside the active tab while remaining available
within it.

In `@src/core/config/__tests__/importExport.spec.ts`:
- Around line 376-377: Strengthen the importSettingsFromPath tests by using a
stateful ContextProxy, seeding existing viewStates, and verifying they remain
unchanged after import. Add a case where no viewStates exist and confirm that
state is also preserved; inspect every setValues payload to ensure none contains
viewStates rather than relying on a single { mode: "code" } call.

In `@src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts`:
- Line 3367: Update the provider-profile activation, update, and deletion flows
around currentApiConfigName to persist the initiating view through
_saveViewLocalStateFromMutation, then refresh every live view affected by the
changed or deleted profile and its corresponding viewStates entry. Ensure
createTask uses the refreshed profile state, and preserve the existing
skipCurrentTaskRebuild restoration behavior.
- Line 3548: Update the configuration sanitization in createTask and setValues
so non-string mode values are rejected before persistence, while valid string
modes continue through unchanged. Adjust the related spec to expect rejection
rather than pass-through, ensuring invalid values cannot reach viewLocalState,
getState(), or HistoryItem.mode.

In `@src/package.json`:
- Around line 290-307: Move the existing commandPalette array from the top-level
contributes configuration into contributes.menus, and remove the original
top-level entry. Preserve all four command identifiers and their
activeWebviewPanelId conditions unchanged.

# Conflicts:

…get names

- Reject a rename whose target name already exists before saving: webview
name validation lets a case-only collision reach the handler, and the
rollback would otherwise delete a record the rename never owned.
- Keep the pre-rename stored record and roll the views back to it when the
old-name deletion fails, instead of the attempted payload that was never
  persisted under the old name.
- Undo the rename's own save when the normalized read-back or the view
re-point fails, so a failed rename cannot leave both names resolving to
  the same id.
- Log failed rename compensation instead of discarding it.

_restoreProviderManagerSelection and _restoreProfileActivationState cannot race
pending writes; keep listConfig() evaluated before the writes start.
- Around line 2582-2591: Update the rollback in ClineProvider’s

replacing the shared map with snapshot.viewStates. Restore this activation’s own

The direct-activation group rejected on the first failing write, so the
compensation could restore stores while a sibling write of the same group
was still in flight and land on top of the restore. Settle the group
before compensating, matching the upsert path.

The durable viewStates rollback replayed the whole pre-activation map,
which erased entries sibling instances persisted during the activation
window. Restore only the entries the activation pruned; every other entry
in the map is newer than the snapshot and stays.

Comment thread src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts
A direct activation that hung past the mutation timeout released the
provider-profile queue while its rollback was still pending: a later
activation could complete first, and the late restore would then overwrite
the later activation's selection and settings. Run the multi-write
activation to completion, as the upsert path already does.
The timeout test asserted the old contract - abort on timeout and let
the queue advance - which the queue-ownership fix replaces. Assert the
new behavior instead: the timed-out activation is not aborted, completes
its writes, and the queue stays owned until it settles, so the second
activation runs only afterwards and the late rollback cannot overwrite
it.

…d saved records

- A provider-profile mutation whose caller already timed out while the
callback was still queued no longer starts: it cannot change the selected
  profile while reporting failure.
- Track the viewStates entries the activation's own writes evict and restore
exactly those on rollback, so a sibling's intentional pin clear after the
  snapshot is never resurrected.
- Record successful profile creates in the claim bookkeeping: a failed create
now spares a record a sibling create saved, and the bookkeeping is cleared
  when the last claimant settles.
- Assert the final shared selection in the run-to-completion timeout test.

Pre-merge checks failed. Please resolve the failing checks before merging.

- Use Object.hasOwn for the eviction and merge checks so view ids that
collide with Object.prototype keys are still tracked and restored.
- Wait for the mutation queue tail in the queued-timeout test before the
negative assertions, and assert the first profile's write landed.

… failed deletions

- Re-read the stored record after saveConfig and fail the upsert when the
read-back fails, compensating the landed save with the pre-save snapshot
instead of letting an unvalidated caller payload drive activation writes.
- Snapshot the manager record and every persistence surface before
deleteProviderProfile commits its manager delete, and restore them
(record, profile-list merge, selection, shared settings, affected view
pins) when a later write in the deletion group fails.
- Keep the mutation queue owned by a mode switch past its timeout via
runToCompletion so the next queued mutation cannot overlap in-flight
  writes.
- Track intentionally cleared/re-keyed view ids as tombstones so activation
rollback never resurrects a sibling entry the sibling cleared mid-window.

The view-identity refactor moved the last production caller off getPanel, so the production dead-code gate flags the export. The repo convention for a focused test seam is an @internal JSDoc tag (see src/api/providers/vscode-lm.ts).

… abort contract

Persistence Integrity + review threads on Zoo-Code-Org#1550:

- The deletion rollback now restores the manager record with its original id (mode-to-profile mappings, the restored list entry and enhancementApiConfigId all reference the record by id). Test strengthened to assert saveConfig receives the original id.
- getProfile now throws the typed ProviderSettingsNotFoundError for a missing name/id and preserves that type through its error wrapping, so the deletion snapshot treats only a typed not-found as an absent record and propagates any other failure instead of deleting without a restore point.
- The provider-profile mutation queue is run-to-completion only: every enqueue site used runToCompletion:true, so the abort machinery and its cancellation branches in handleModeSwitchUnlocked / persistProviderProfile / activateProviderProfileUnlocked were unreachable. The dead branches and their misleading comments are removed, the closure signatures no longer take an AbortSignal, and the queue keeps ownership until each run settles (a timeout only rejects the caller; a mutation that times out while queued still does not start).

Tests: obsolete cancellation tests removed (they asserted unreachable behaviour); ClineProvider + sticky-mode + sticky-profile + ProviderSettingsManager suites 423 passed; eslint/tsc clean.

Persistence Integrity — the two named defects are fixed in 6390402ee; please re-evaluate against the current diff

Both resolution points from this row are implemented in the current head (6390402ee):

  1. Original id preserved — deleteProviderProfile's rollback now calls saveConfig(profileToDelete.name, { ...previousRecord }) with only name stripped, so the manager record keeps its original id. Mode-to-profile mappings, the restored listApiConfigMeta entry and enhancementApiConfigId keep resolving. The compensating test asserts saveConfig receives { apiKey: "old-key", id: "old-id" }.
  2. Typed not-found only — ProviderSettingsManager.getProfile now throws ProviderSettingsNotFoundError for a missing name/id and preserves that type through its error wrapping; the deletion snapshot treats only that typed error as an absent record and propagates anything else (no more "arbitrary getProfile() error = missing record"). The existing tests for the not-found pruning path and the generic-failure propagation path pass.

The remaining row text appears to describe the pre-fix code. Requesting a full review so the checklist is regenerated against 6390402ee.

Local evidence: ClineProvider + sticky-mode + sticky-profile + ProviderSettingsManager suites 423 passed; eslint/tsc clean; prettier blob OK.
