X-Plane 12 aircraft and plugins compiled with libcurl.4.8.0.so dont work

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

I play X-Plane 12 with a plugin,or aircraft compiled for libcurl.4.8.0 and load in a flight then see the plugin doesnt show up in the plugins tab or the aircraft isnt working properly, i check the log and i see smth like this:"dlerror:/mnt/HDDLinux/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/SteamLinuxRuntime/var/steam-runtime/pinned_libs_64/libcurl.so.4: version `CURL_OPENSSL_4' not found (required by /home/HondaMan/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/X-Plane 12/Aircraft/2/Cirrus SR22 REP/plugins/REP/64/lin.xpl)"

Steps for reproducing this issue:

1.Load in X-Plane 12 with the plugin,or aircraft installed.
2.Load in a flight with the aircraft if there is.
3.Observe.

@kisak-valve, please could you retitle this to say libcurl.so.4.8.0 instead of just 4.8.0? Or, actually, phrasing it as "system libcurl" or "recent libcurl" or something like that would probably be better.

This is not something that can be supported. Unfortunately, there have been at least two incompatible ABIs for libcurl: the one that is now used, and the one that was in old versions of Debian/Ubuntu. The legacy Steam Runtime version 1 is compatible with Ubuntu 12.04, but that means that it has to use the libcurl ABI that was present in that old Ubuntu release: if this changed, that would break older games.

If X-Plane's developer/publisher has set it up to be compatible with the legacy Steam Runtime version 1 (which is the historical default), then third-party plugins/addons for that game need to be compiled in the Steam Runtime version 1 SDK to be compatible with that legacy runtime environment.

If X-Plane's developer/publisher wanted to reconfigure it to use Steam Linux Runtime version 4, a more modern runtime, then they could do that. However, if they did, then the game and all plugins would need to be recompiled in the Steam Runtime 4 SDK.

Unfortunately, game developers can't assume that a game or plugin compiled for one environment will be compatible with different environments - that's not always possible.

While the game is still using Steam Runtime version 1, a workaround that might help would be to configure the game with Launch Options set to STEAM_RUNTIME_USE_LIBCURL_SHIM=1 %command%. This is not 100% reliable (which is why it isn't the default) but it might work.

The workaround didnt work,and i've tried injecting libcurl.4.8.0.so manually but that didnt work either it just crashed the game so the only solution i see is buying the Laminar Research launcher version of X-Plane 12 and 11.
