What

The missed-dose notification gets Taken and Skip buttons when it covers exactly one dose, so you can resolve it from the lock screen. From AGENTS.md "Future feature ideas" (reliability-adjacent).

How

  • OutstandingActionReceiver (manifest, exported=false): writes the same pending_action_<id> record AlarmActivity uses (adds SKIPPED), cancels any armed alarm/snooze for the dose, clears the notification. No screen opens.
  • Distinct request codes + data URIs per button, FLAG_IMMUTABLE.
  • With 2+ missed doses: no buttons, tap opens the app as before. Bulk-marking medication from one tap is too easy to get wrong.
  • sync() now applies native answers first. Before, the Medications page called sync() without draining them, so an answered dose could be listed as missed again.

Checks

  • flutter analyze: no issues
  • flutter test: all pass (new tests for single-dose rule and SKIPPED parsing)
  • flutter build apk --debug: builds

📱 Real-phone check: let one dose go missed, tap Taken on the lock-screen notification, open the app, and confirm the dose shows taken and the notification stays gone. Repeat with Skip. With two missed doses, confirm there are no buttons.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Missed-dose notifications now offer Taken and Skip actions when exactly one dose is involved. Choosing an action records the outcome and clears the notification; with multiple doses, tapping opens the app.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Pending notification actions are applied during sync, helping keep dose statuses and alarms up to date.

When exactly one dose is missed, its notification now has Taken and
Skip buttons, so it can be resolved from the lock screen. A broadcast
receiver records the answer in the same pending-action store the alarm
screen uses (SKIPPED is new), cancels any armed alarm for the dose and
clears the notification. With several missed doses the tap still just
opens the app. sync() now applies these answers first, so no caller can
show an answered dose as missed again.

Walkthrough

Missed-dose notifications now offer Taken and Skip actions when they cover exactly one dose. Android records valid actions and cancels the dose alarm. Scheduler synchronization applies pending outcomes, including skipped status.

Changes: Missed-dose notification actions

Layer / File(s) Summary
Select and show notification actions
lib/services/scheduler.dart, lib/services/alarm_bridge.dart, android/app/src/main/kotlin/dev/susiee/dosekeeper/MainActivity.kt, android/app/src/main/kotlin/dev/susiee/dosekeeper/OutstandingNotifier.kt, android/app/src/main/AndroidManifest.xml
The scheduler passes a dose ID only when one missed dose is actionable. The bridge forwards it to Android. Android adds Taken and Skip actions when the ID is present and registers a receiver for those actions.
Record and apply notification actions
android/app/src/main/kotlin/dev/susiee/dosekeeper/OutstandingNotifier.kt, lib/services/scheduler.dart, lib/services/alarm_bridge.dart, lib/ui/today_page.dart, test/widget_test.dart, AGENTS.md
The receiver records valid actions and cancels the dose alarm. sync() applies pending actions, including skipped outcomes. Tests cover actionable-dose selection and action parsing. Documentation describes the notification actions and notes that device verification remains outstanding.

Security architecture risk: Low · up to 7cca4

The actions target individual doses and are protected against direct invocation by other apps. However, a delayed notification choice can overwrite a newer choice made in the app, creating a bounded dose-history integrity risk.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · reliability · inferred: An older notification Skip can overwrite a newer in-app Taken. If the notification action queues while Today remains active and the user marks the dose Taken before another refresh, the UI saves Taken and then refreshes. Synchronization drains the older Skip and unconditionally replaces the persisted status and action timestamp. This exposes conflicting state ownership through the newly added Skip producer. Startup and resume refreshes narrow the window, but neither timestamp nor status checks resolve the conflict.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The reviewed path affects device-local medication status, history, and dose alarms. Each notification capability fixes one dose ID rather than authorizing a bulk update; repeated notification access can nevertheless affect successive doses on the installation. Arbitrary-ID substitution through mutable action extras was not established.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • inferred — The action capability delegates narrowly scoped dose-resolution authority to the notification surface without exporting the receiver. An ordinary external broadcast cannot invoke it. Although the receiver has no freshness check, no evidence established an unauthorized party's ability to obtain and replay a retained capability; that possibility is not treated as a verified attack path.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — The new workflow inherits a non-atomic handoff: native records are removed before database application. Interruption or a database failure in that interval can lose the user's outcome, leaving the dose pending after its notification was cleared. Destructive draining and native action recording already existed at the PR base, so this is inherited recovery debt, not a newly verified security vulnerability.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Define one conflict policy for notification and in-app resolutions, enforce it atomically using an appropriate version or ordering check, and retain retryable native outcomes until durable database application is acknowledged. This would protect dose-history ownership against stale writes and interrupted handoffs.

Explanation

The title "Add Taken/Skip buttons to the missed-dose notification" matches the main change in the changeset. The PR adds Taken and Skip actions to the missed-dose notification when it covers exactly one dose, with a receiver that records the outcome, cancels the dose's alarm or snooze, and clears the notification. The supporting changes (sync ordering, SKIPPED status handling, singleActionableDoseId helper, and tests) are part of the same feature.
