Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Red CI can trigger up to two repair rounds in the standard factory workflow. Each round reruns later checks and reviewers; successful fixes are pushed to the same pull request and checked again.
    • If repairs are exhausted, held, or unsuccessful, the job ends as accepted but unpublished, with round results recorded.
  • Improvements
    • Change-risk checks flag deleted test lines and sensitive CI, lint, and test-configuration changes.
    • Claude Code credentials use macOS Keychain credentials when available, with file-based credentials as fallback.

When publish ends ci_failed, the engine kept its chain alive, and the
frozen definition declares publish.ci.on_fail, the publishing runner now
repairs in rounds until CI is green or the budget runs out. Each round
reads the head jig last pushed from the ledger, refuses to build on a
head someone else pushed, authorizes the round under a freshened lease,
and hands the red checks and their log tails to the engine's RepairCI.

Only a round that ends accepted, unheld, and changed goes further: it is
fenced again right before the push (a round can outlive its lease), its
own commits may carry only paths it changed, and then its paths are
committed and pushed non-force, the remote head is proven, the round is
recorded, remote_ref moves to it, and CI is awaited again.

Every stop short of green leaves the attempt accepted_unpublished with
the pull request at the last pushed head and every round's heads,
changed paths, acceptance, and outcome in the publish summary; a
cancelled round says so. The publish-only retry never repairs.

cmd/jig/ci_repair_test.go runs a round through the real jig worker
wiring and fails if the continuation's scratch or trace do not outlive
Execute, the bug the U3 review found.

… fixes that weaken checks (CI repair U6)

factory.yaml opts into publish.ci.on_fail with two rounds through build,
so a CI fix is committed, tested, reviewed by all three reviewers, and
classified before it is pushed to the same pull request.

The risk classifier now scores as not low anything under .github/, lint
and test-runner configuration, and any test file that loses more lines
than it gains, so a fix that weakens a check instead of the code is held
for a person. Adding tests stays ordinary work. The correctness reviewer
blocks such changes unless the task asked for them.

The classifier script is now tested as written in the definition, across
nine scratch-repo scenarios, and its test-file pattern reaches awk through
the environment so gawk and mawk do not reinterpret its backslashes. The
README and quickstart describe CI repair.

The CI repair exit gate's pre-flight found that gh refuses to print a
response containing terminal escape codes unless passed
--allow-escape-sequences, exiting 1. Actions job logs nearly always carry
colour codes, so FailedCheckLogs would have returned a 'log unavailable'
note for almost every job, and repair rounds would have seen check names
but never logs. The unit tests missed it because they fake gh.

Logs are now read with the flag (cleanLogTail already strips the codes),
and a gh too old to know the flag, which reports it unknown, is asked
once more without it.

The CI repair exit gate's first run failed before any work: every agent
got 'OAuth session expired and could not be refreshed'. On macOS Claude
Code keeps its live login in the keychain, but jig's seeder copied
~/.claude/.credentials.json whenever the file existed, and on this machine
that file was a stale leftover with no usable token. jig now finds the
login the way the CLI does: the keychain on macOS, falling back to the
file; the file elsewhere. The precedence is unit-tested for both.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The publishing worker now supports configured CI repair rounds after red CI. Factory configuration adds repair and risk-classification rules. Claude Code credential seeding now uses macOS keychain credentials before falling back to the credentials file.

Layer / File(s) Summary
Factory repair and risk policy
examples/definitions/factory.yaml, cmd/jig/factory_test.go, README.md, docs/quickstart.md, docs/plans/2026-09-27-001-feat-ci-repair-plan.md
The factory configures two repair rounds and adds risk checks for sensitive paths and test-line removals. Tests and documentation describe the policy and its behavior.
Worker repair loop
internal/worker/publish.go, internal/worker/publish_repair.go, docs/plans/2026-09-27-001-feat-ci-repair-plan.md
The worker reads the repair budget, runs and records rounds, validates declared paths, pushes accepted changes, and rechecks CI. Failed-check log retrieval retries without the escape-sequence flag when gh does not recognize it.
Repair flow validation
internal/worker/publish_repair_test.go, internal/worker/publish_ci_test.go, cmd/jig/ci_repair_test.go
Tests cover repair outcomes, round chaining, head and lease changes, push and path checks, log retrieval, and live worker wiring.

Claude Code credential selection

Layer / File(s) Summary
Credential selection and coverage
cmd/jig/runtime.go, cmd/jig/seed_test.go, README.md
On macOS, seeding uses a nonempty keychain result first and falls back to the credentials file. Other platforms use the file. Tests cover precedence and missing credentials.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to d69ba

This change reorders and reworks how Claude Code credentials are seeded (preferring macOS Keychain over the credentials file) and adds a substantial CI auto-repair capability to the publishing worker. The CI-repair logic appears well tested across success, exhaustion, chaining, lease-loss, and staging-escape scenarios. The credential-seeding change, however, can stall the seeding step on macOS if Keychain access requires approval, and may write an unusable credentials file if the Keychain returns a hex-encoded value in some Claude Code versions; both should be addressed before merging on macOS runners.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟠 High · up to d69ba

Automated repairs give failed CI output a new path into an agent that can change and publish code. The flow has substantial checks, but untrusted log content and failures between a push and its repair record leave security boundaries that merit design review.

Retained concerns

  • High · security · inferred: Failed CI logs newly reach a credential-bearing, tool-capable repair agent. Prompt instructions and checks on the resulting code do not enforce isolation while the agent processes that content, creating an inferred prompt-injection and sensitive-data exposure path for parties able to influence failed check output.
  • Medium · reliability · inferred: A repair can advance the pull-request branch before its round is recorded. If verification or recording fails after the push, the remote head can differ from the durable repair history and the returned summary, complicating containment and recovery of a repair that has not completed its CI recheck.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The new ingress is limited to failed checks on a repository's publishing attempt and by log-size and round budgets. Within that attempt, influenced content reaches a builder with access to its worktree and seeded runtime credentials, and a successful repair can update the existing pull-request branch.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — Someone able to influence a failed Actions job's output can place instructions in its log tail. That tail becomes repair-phase input before the agent runs with tool permissions; a manipulated agent could act before acceptance, hold, and path checks evaluate the result. Whether a concrete attack succeeds depends on the agent and its runtime isolation and is not established here.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The failure envelope labels CI logs as data, log reads and lengths are bounded, and the factory reruns reviews and risk classification before its hold decision. The worker also checks the lease, branch head, accepted state, hold, and declared paths before a repair push. These are meaningful controls but do not constitute a runtime boundary around log-influenced tool actions.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Lease and head checks reject several competing-push paths, and failed or held agent outcomes do not enter the push path. Push, remote verification, durable recording, and CI recheck remain separate operations, however, so recovery from a failure between them is not proven by those guards.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Consider isolating repair-agent tools and credentials from log-origin instructions, and explicitly reconcile a remote repair head with its durable round record before treating an interrupted attempt as recovered.

Bound the Keychain command before making it the preferred source.

On macOS, seeding now invokes security even when the credentials file exists. A Keychain access prompt can leave this command waiting, so the file fallback cannot run and publishing can remain blocked. Use exec.CommandContext with a bounded context for this lookup. The supplied lint result also flags this exec.Command call. (github.com)

Claude Code issue 36779 Keychain -X find-generic-password hex credentials

💡 Result:

Issue **#36779** reports that on Claude Code **v2.1.80 for macOS**, `claude login` appeared to succeed, but the Keychain item `Claude Code-credentials` contained only `mcpOAuth` data—not the main Claude auth token. As a result, a new session showed “Not logged in.” The report used `xxd -r -p` to decode the hex-formatted `-w` output before parsing it as JSON. Decode hex-formatted Keychain credentials before seeding Claude Code.

claudeCredentials accepts any non-empty output from security find-generic-password and seedClaudeAuth writes it directly to .credentials.json. Claude Code v2.1.80 has reported hex-formatted Keychain output, so the seeded CLI can receive hex text instead of credential JSON. Decode this format before writing the file, and add a regression test with representative hex output.
