Summary

Adds a GitHub Actions CI workflow (.github/workflows/ci.yml) that automatically validates pull requests and pushes to main.

Motivation

Addresses #32. The project has a pytest suite, dependency files, and a Dockerfile, but no automated checks that run on PRs. A change could introduce failing tests or a broken image without being caught before merge.

Implementation

  • New workflow runs on pull_request to main and on push to main.
  • test job:
    • Sets up Python 3.11 (matching the Dockerfile).
    • Installs runtime deps from requirements.txt and test deps from requirements-dev.txt.
    • Runs python -m pytest (uses existing pytest.ini).
  • docker job:
    • Builds the image with docker/build-push-action and push: false so the build is validated without publishing.
  • Does not interfere with the existing docker-image.yml that pushes on main (that one uses secrets and targets Docker Hub).

Testing

  • Workflow syntax is standard GitHub Actions YAML.
  • Python version and install steps match the project's Dockerfile and dependency files.
  • pytest invocation matches pytest.ini (testpaths = tests).
  • Docker build uses the existing Dockerfile and context.
  • No runtime code changes; this is CI-only.

Closes #32.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests

    • Added automated tests that run on pushes to the main branch and on pull requests.
    • Tests run with Python 3.11, install runtime and development requirements, and use dependency caching.
  • Chores

    • Added a job that builds the project’s Docker image without publishing it.
    • CI actions use pinned versions, and repository checkout credentials are not persisted.

Runs pytest and validates Docker build on pull requests and pushes to main.

Explanation

Issue #32 requires CI for pull requests and pushes to the default branch, dependency installation, pytest execution, and Docker build validation. .github/workflows/ci.yml runs on pull requests and pushes to main, installs both requirements files, runs python -m pytest, and builds ./Dockerfile without pushing. The workflow uses Python 3.11, which matches Dockerfile, and pytest reads the repository’s pytest.ini automatically.

Everything looks good, can you please fix the 2 issues found by code rabbit and we are good to merge it.

- Add least-privilege permissions (contents: read)
- Disable credential persistence on checkout
- Pin third-party actions to full commit SHAs

Thanks for the review @preetkaran20. I've addressed the two CodeRabbit findings in the latest commit:

  1. Added a permissions: contents: read block for least privilege.
  2. Set persist-credentials: false on the checkout steps.
  3. Pinned all third-party actions to their full commit SHAs (with version comments).

The updated workflow is in HarshRajSinghania@b03eea6. Happy to make any further adjustments.
