Resolved in the Rust port. wally --update exists and works end-to-end (ran it three ways on this build — merge-tmp-port, wally 0.7.0):

    • wally update — checks the release channel and reports the installed version
    • wally update --nightly — cleanly refused ("nightly/dev installs are no longer published; this installer only supports production releases")
    • Homebrew-managed binaries are detected and redirected to brew upgrade wally (6/6 is_homebrew_managed unit tests green)

    Demo:

    #113 demo

Recording committed at docs/demo-recordings/issue113.gif on merge-tmp-port.

One wrinkle worth flagging (not blocking): the release tag is still v0.6.1 while versions.toml says 0.7.0. The resolver falls back sanely today and correctly reports "already have the latest (v0.7.0)", but the v0.7.0 tag should be cut so the resolver is never wrong.

Leaving open for you — nothing closed here.

Checked on main (0.7.2). wally update and the wally --update / -u shortcut both re-run the installer and install the latest release. #160 adds wally update -c to check first and ask before installing.
