vaers

Raw Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) data for PopHIVE.

VAERS is a passive reporting system co-managed by the CDC and FDA. Reports alone cannot establish that a vaccine caused an adverse event; see measure_info.json for source caveats.

Contents

• raw/symptoms.parquet, raw/vax.parquet, raw/vaersdata.parquet: all years of the VAERS SYMPTOMS, VAX and DATA files, combined and split into small parquet parts. These are tracked in this repo.
• raw/staging/: the yearly CSVs from https://vaers.hhs.gov/data/datasets.html (up to ~500 MB each). Gitignored.
• ingest.R: rebuilds the parquet datasets from raw/staging/ when called with raw_vaers(update = TRUE).
• standard/: not yet populated. No standardized (geography/time) output has been built from this data.

Nothing yet. Once standard/*.csv.gz exists, add a pull-script at data/vaers/ingest.R in PopHIVE/Ingest.
