Summary

A new component app, components/anyapi/, for AnyAPI. AnyAPI is a
gateway that puts several hundred scraping and data APIs behind one key, one normalized request
and response shape, and USD pay-per-request pricing with no subscription.

Files:

  • components/anyapi/anyapi.app.mjs
  • components/anyapi/common/utils.mjs
  • components/anyapi/actions/search-apis/search-apis.mjs
  • components/anyapi/actions/get-api/get-api.mjs
  • components/anyapi/actions/run-api/run-api.mjs
  • components/anyapi/actions/get-balance/get-balance.mjs
  • components/anyapi/package.json
  • pnpm-lock.yaml (the new workspace package)

Checklist

Versioning

  • All components updated in this PR had their version updated (0.0.1 for new ones)
  • The app updated in this PR had its package.json's version updated

All four actions are new and carry version: "0.0.1". components/anyapi/package.json is a new
package at 0.1.0.

New app

  • The app updated in this PR is already integrated

CodeRabbit review

  • I have addressed or acknowledged all of CodeRabbit's review comments

Each of the six inline comments has a reply on the thread saying what changed or why it was not
changed. Nothing is marked resolved.

The four actions, and why not one per platform

AnyAPI is a catalog, not a single endpoint. It currently publishes 363 APIs across Instagram,
TikTok, YouTube, X, Reddit, LinkedIn, Google Search, Google Maps, Amazon, generic web scraping
and more. One Pipedream action per API would mean hundreds of near-identical components that go
stale whenever the catalog changes.

So this ships the discovery loop that the API itself is designed around:

Action Request Purpose
Search APIs GET /catalog/search Find an API by describing what you need, or by scoping to a category or a platform. Returns each match with its slug, description and USD price.
Get API GET /v1/apis/{sku} Read one API's normalized input and output JSON Schema plus its pricing, so you know what to send.
Run API POST /v1/run/{sku} Execute it. Returns the normalized output, the number of result rows, and costUsd.
Get Balance GET /v1/balance Remaining USD in the wallet.

The API field on Get API and Run API is a dynamic dropdown. It calls GET /catalog/search
with whatever the user types and falls back to GET /v1/apis for the unfiltered list. A slug can
also be pasted directly, and the prop description points at the standalone Search APIs action.

common/utils.mjs restores the JSON types an API's inputSchema declares before Run API
sends the request. Pipedream object props deliver every value the user typed as a string, and
AnyAPI checks the request against that schema, so an integer field entered as text has to become
a number while a string field holding a numeric id has to stay text.

Auth

Static API key, sent as the X-API-Key request header. GET /catalog/search answers without a
credential, so the app sends the header only when an account is connected. No OAuth step.

Verifying the API without a credential

GET /catalog/search is public, so you can confirm the service is real with no signup:

curl -s 'https://api.getanyapi.com/catalog/search?q=instagram%20profile'
curl -s 'https://api.getanyapi.com/catalog/search?category=social'
curl -s 'https://api.getanyapi.com/catalog/search?platform=twitter'

For the three authenticated endpoints, a key is self-serve and creates no account:

curl -s -X POST 'https://api.getanyapi.com/agent/signup' -H 'Content-Type: application/json' -d '{}'

That returns a free trial key with a small starting balance, good for seven days.

Checks run

Run on this branch with Node 20.13.1 and pnpm 10.28.2, matching .tool-versions and
.github/workflows/pull-request-checks.yaml. Every step exits 0.

pnpm install --frozen-lockfile --filter=pipedream Lockfile is up to date, Done in 6.6s
pnpm exec eslint <the 6 changed files> exit=0
node scripts/findBadKeys.js <files> "" exit=0
node --experimental-loader ./scripts/version-strip-loader.mjs \
  scripts/checkComponentAppProp.js <files> "" exit=0
node scripts/findDuplicateKeys.js exit=0
pnpm build exit=0

pnpm-lock.yaml is unchanged by the review fixes; its only diff in this PR is the six lines that
add the new components/anyapi importer.

No Markdown or MDX file is added, so the spellcheck job has nothing to read.

Live verification

Every request path here was exercised against the production gateway through the component code
itself, with a real key. Field names are confirmed, not inferred. Re-run after the review fixes:

PASS search category-only Found 3 API(s) in category `social`
PASS search platform-only Found 3 API(s) on platform `twitter`
PASS search query-only Found 3 API(s) matching "instagram profile"
PASS search with no scope ConfigurationError naming Query, Category and Platform,
raised before any request is sent
PASS search with no account keyless GET /catalog/search returns 200
PASS get-api inputSchema present, userId type "string"
PASS run-api {"userId":"314216"} Ran `instagram.basic_profile` for $0.0015

The last line is the one that used to fail. Before the fix, "314216" was parsed into the number
314216 and the gateway answered
400 invalid_input: at "/userId": got number, want string.

Also verified earlier and unchanged: the dropdown returns 25 options for a typed query and all 363
with no query; Get Balance returns {"usd":...}.

Disclosure

I work on AnyAPI. Happy to change anything here to match your conventions, and happy to add
sources or more actions if you would prefer a different shape.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added AnyAPI integration for accessing the AnyAPI catalog.
    • Search APIs by query, category, platform, and result limit.
    • Retrieve details for a selected API.
    • Run APIs with optional JSON input.
    • View the current account balance.
    • Select APIs directly from dynamically populated catalog options.

Adds the AnyAPI app with four actions: Search APIs, Get API, Run API and
Get Balance. AnyAPI is a gateway that puts several hundred scraping and
data APIs behind one key, one normalized request and response shape, and
USD pay-per-request pricing.

The actions follow the catalog's own discovery loop (search, inspect,
run) rather than one action per upstream API, so the component does not
have to be regenerated whenever the catalog changes.

Running an API with malformed JSON in an object or array input can crash that action execution instead of returning a validation error. This is bounded to affected inputs but should be corrected before broad use.

Search APIs made Query required, but AnyAPI's catalog search accepts any one
of q, category or platform: a scope on its own is a complete question.
GET /catalog/search?category=social and ?platform=twitter both return 200,
while no parameter at all returns 400. Query is now optional and the action
refuses, before it sends anything, only when all three are empty, naming all
three in the error.

Run API sent every JSON-looking string through JSON.parse, so the documented
example {"userId": "314216"} became the number 314216 and AnyAPI answered
400 invalid_input: at "/userId": got number, want string. Run API now reads
the API's inputSchema and restores exactly the types that schema declares,
at every depth: a string field stays a string, an integer field entered in
the UI as text becomes a number. A field with no schema keeps the previous
best-effort parse.

The catalog search endpoint answers without a credential, so _headers() sends
X-API-Key only when an account is connected instead of reading through an
absent $auth.

Also: Limit takes a minimum of 1 and says so; Category shows a concrete value;
Search APIs, Get API and Run API descriptions now name each other and say what
each one is for; app methods carry JSDoc.

Pushed 501c53cb, which works every CodeRabbit finding. Each of the six inline comments has its own reply on the thread; nothing is marked resolved. Short version:

Fixed as reported (2)

  • Search APIs required a query. Confirmed against production first: ?category=social and ?platform=twitter each return 200, and no parameter at all returns 400. query is now optional, and the action refuses with a ConfigurationError naming all three only when Query, Category and Platform are all empty.
  • Run API sent wrongly typed input. This was breaking the schema's own documented example. instagram.basic_profile declares userId as a string with example: {"userId": "314216"}; the old helper parsed that into the number 314216 and the gateway answered 400 invalid_input: at "/userId": got number, want string. Run API now reads the API's inputSchema and restores exactly the types the schema declares, recursively. Same input now returns Ran instagram.basic_profile for $0.0015.

Fixed as description or guideline work (2)

  • Search APIs, Get API and Run API descriptions now name each other with their exact action names and describe one consistent loop: search, read the schema, run. Get API states that the slug is what selects the API and that inputSchema is what Run API's Input must be built from.
  • Category shows a concrete value (social) and says it is the API's own category string. Platform got the same treatment.

Fixed in part, with the other half explained (2)

  • Keyless catalog search. _headers() no longer reads through $auth; it sends X-API-Key only when an account is connected, and a call with no auth object returns 200. I did not make the app prop optional: no app prop in components/ is, and three of the four actions genuinely need the key, so it would only move the failure from configuration time to run time.
  • limit below 1. The claim that AnyAPI requires limit >= 1 does not reproduce. ?limit=0 and ?limit=-3 both return 200; the gateway treats anything below 1 as the ranked default. Rejecting them client-side would make the component stricter than the API. What was fair is that the range was undocumented, so the prop now carries min: 1 and says so.

Also

  • JSDoc added to the app methods, for the checklist item and the docstring pre-merge check.
  • The PR description now follows the template, with the Summary heading and the Checklist filled in.
  • pnpm-lock.yaml is untouched by this commit. The diff is five component files.

Checks, Node 20.13.1 and pnpm 10.28.2, all exit 0

pnpm install --frozen-lockfile --filter=pipedream Lockfile is up to date

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Stop recursion when JSON parsing fails.

If an object or array field contains not-json, optionalParseAsJSON(value) returns the same string. Line 33 then calls coerceToSchema again with unchanged arguments until it throws a stack-overflow error. Return the raw value when parsing fails, or raise a validation error.

Thanks @michelle0927 - app request filed: #21934.

It has the app slug, the auth shape (keys, one X-API-Key header field) and a test request, plus keyless curl commands if you want to poke at the API before wiring anything up. Let me know if you need anything else from my side to get the base integration in.

@michelle0927 checking in on this one. The app request is #21934, filed on the 8th, still open.

Is there anything I can do from my side to get the base integration in? The app file is already in this PR (components/anyapi/anyapi.app.mjs), auth is a single X-API-Key header, and the test request is GET https://api.getanyapi.com/v1/balance. Happy to split the app into its own PR if that's easier to land first, and I can send a key with credit on it so whoever picks it up can test without a signup.
