[None][perf] skip scalar leaves in NCCL-window tensor collection - #21379
Return early for exact built-in scalar types when collecting CUDA tensors for NCCL-window scopes, avoiding repeated visited-set and dataclass inspection.
Preserve recursive tensor/container traversal and dataclass subclasses of scalar types, including tensor-bearing subclasses.
Leave scope entry, exit, output transfer, and failure handling unchanged.
Add regression coverage to the existing CPU test module, already included in l0_cpu.yml.
Validation
Previously recorded validation at base revision 2d1a7d170eb808bbe0e1203aa9d34dea702d52c5:
51 CPU NCCL-window graph/scope cases passed, including scalar fast-path and scalar-subclass regression coverage.
Six interleaved runs on the same B200, alternating baseline/candidate in a single allocation; same source, image, installed build, and harness, with only the scope-collection module changed between arms. All six cases passed without skips.
Workload: GPT-OSS-20B FP4, PyTorch backend, maximum batch size 512, maximum tokens 2048, input/output lengths 512/512.

Median improvement: approximately 21.77% for this configuration and revision. This does not establish a general speedup or resolve the cause of a historical regression. This PR is an independent optimization, not a claim to fix a historical bug.
Publication checks: Ruff lint and format checks and Python syntax compilation passed for both changed files. The official confidentiality scanner checked the outgoing change and final PR text. The CPU/GPU tests above are previously recorded results for this exact patch and base revision; they were not rerun during publication, and validation has not been rerun against newer main.
Dev Engineer Review
The source change adds an exact-type fast path for built-in scalar values in _cuda_tensors. This avoids further tensor, container, and dataclass inspection for those values. The reported regression test preserves traversal for a dataclass-decorated int subclass that contains a CUDA tensor.
No API changes or broader scope changes are reported. Review finding counts and test execution results are unavailable from the supplied evidence.
QA Engineer Review
tests/unittest/_torch/test_nccl_window_graph.py changed. The reported tests cover built-in scalar leaves and a tensor-bearing scalar subclass. The test file is listed in tests/integration/test_lists/test-db/l0_cpu.yml; no manual-QA list entry is indicated. Coverage verdict: sufficient for the described scalar fast path and subclass regression.
Per-File QA Perspective
tensorrt_llm/_torch/nccl_window_tensor_scope.py: Verify that exact built-in scalar values exit before traversal, while scalar subclasses still follow existing collection behavior.

Walkthrough
_cuda_tensors now returns early for values whose exact type is a built-in scalar type. Tests cover scalar leaves and a dataclass subclass of int that contains a CUDA tensor.

Summary
Scalar check and traversal tests tensorrt_llm/_torch/nccl_window_tensor_scope.py, tests/unittest/_torch/test_nccl_window_graph.py
_cuda_tensors skips values whose exact type is in _SCALAR_TYPES. Tests verify scalar values are not inspected as dataclasses and that an int subclass decorated as a dataclass is traversed.
A narrow valid-object edge case can break scope input or output handling; fix it before merging.

Handle unhashable class objects.
If a dataclass instance has a metaclass that defines __eq__ without __hash__, type(value) is unhashable. This lookup raises TypeError before traversal; scope entry or output escape can fail. Python permits such metaclasses. (docs.python.org)
Use an identity-based scalar check or guard the set lookup. Add a regression case with an unhashable metaclass to test_nccl_window_graph.py.
